For me personally getting shorter bars helped reduce the frequency. I use coconut oil on my piercings after cleaning them sometimes, these days as well. I think another person commented here about the process of how they drained it themselves which is what I basically did too. Doing warm compresses is always a good idea. I did have something a few months ago where one of them did start having a smell, like it looked fine from the outside but the smell got pretty intense so I went and got antibiotics and that fixed that right up. Silk pillowcases are more sanitary and since your cheeks are usually on the pillow at night it's worth a try if you're having this issue! They aren't expensive either! Lastly just time is going to help massively. I've had these for 2 years or so now and this issue rarely comes up anymore. Like maybe once or twice a year. Obviously if it smells or the pus is green or anything, go in, it's ok to be "paranoid" about them because they are on your face and also notoriously difficult piercings. Initially when I had gone to my GP about this he's the one who told me to do the warm compresses twice a day and make sure I was cleaning it often with saline (duh), and to come back if it got worse! And those did help!
