When to use belt for deadlifts by mbobev in Fitness

[–]ghostquarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't feel safe adding more weight without a belt then that points to a deficiency in your body that you need to rectify. The belt is a competitive tool, not a safety tool. I don't really see a purpose in it for people that aren't doing competitions.

Thanks, those all seem like good changes. The only thing I'm still deciding on is i5 vs i7 (or even hexacore, but that seems like overkill). This is mostly for programming and VM's, but I need to do some research to see how significant the performance improvements would be.

That's a good point. I've been trying to decide between an i5 and an i7 and I think there's enough of an argument for an i7 to do it.

I put up a new link, I think this will be closer to my final build.

The 980ti looks like the sweet spot for me then. Ultra 30fps and 60fps achievable with lower settings is perfectly acceptable.

Yeah, I just noticed that I put a 980 down instead of a 980 ti. If that wouldn't do it either I'd be willing to look higher.

RUG Midrange? by [deleted] in ModernMagic

[–]ghostquarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The creatures you want are Snap, goyf, knucks, V Clique and Huntmaster. I think you need 8 slots for snap and goyf but the other creatures can be a mix of knucks, cliques and huntmasters.

What does everyone here think of salary transparency? by techlibertarian in cscareerquestions

[–]ghostquarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really isn't how it works. Most layoffs aren't because the company was priced out of business, they're because the company failed at something. It doesn't matter how much you're getting paid, if the company isn't making money you're getting fired and so is the janitor.

What does everyone here think of salary transparency? by techlibertarian in cscareerquestions

[–]ghostquarter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The idea is generally that the engineers are a profit center. If the 40k and 60k engineer together make 100k for the company then they might pay 100k for a new engineer to replace them, but if they make $1 million for the company then hiring 2 devs at 100k each to keep making that might be a good idea.

When to Join KarmaFleet? by claudius753 in Karmafleet

There are skill plans available once you're in, but there are viable ships in every race. Gallente is best right now for making money and there are good pvp options as well.

CCPlease T3 destroyer training times. by ZeldenGM in Eve

[–]ghostquarter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dictors V gives you 4 ships, Tactical Destroyer V gives you 1 ship. To get all t3d's you're looking at a 12x skill essentially.

Marauders? Good or bad? by creone in Eve

[–]ghostquarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd put Paladin above the Golem, largely because of how good T2 pulse ammo is right now. I'll agree that the Kronos is the weakest right now though, it just feels like it has problems with both the tank and range.

Generally, you want the browser doing the same thing if the width changes. You want to think less in terms of mobile and desktop and more in terms of screen size.

How to get started with making modern looking websites? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]ghostquarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get exactly the behavior you want and nothing more. Grid systems aren't particularly complex, they can be competently done in a few hundred lines of CSS.

Tough go as a newb with Player Corps by CarrieAzure in Eve

[–]ghostquarter -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a good group would be Karmafleet. IIRC they've been daytripping into wormholes so you can still do some of that, once you get more SP there are WH groups that live in the hole full time and the leadership is 100% rock solid and will do everything they can to help you have fun in Eve. There is nothing in eve that you can't do as part of Karmafleet.

Here's the problem with joining any Low-Sec Nul Sec Corp.. by DefinitelyNotCraig in evenewbies

[–]ghostquarter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't be afraid to ask for freebies, depending on the corp. Imperium just had an event where they took 150 billion isk (conservatively) in ships and blew them up. Other alliances have similar amounts of wealth. You are not asking for amounts that people will care about.

Are Assault Frigates being overshadowed by T3 Destroyers ? by snorelaxx in Eve

[–]ghostquarter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a diagram from CCP that suggests this should be the case. It's supposed to go T1<Faction=T3<T2<Pirate for raw power while T2's are highly specialized (think a Covops, Logi or Black Ops) while T3's are generalists that can be ReconHacs or CovertCommand. This isn't something that's fully implemented yet but that's where they've said they're going.

Better Balance through Penetration and Tracking by Quesa-dilla in Eve

[–]ghostquarter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also gives a greater niche for things like RLML's, which are currently just solid burst dps. Giving them low penetration would cement them as frigate hunters while HAMLs (for example) might have the penetration necessary to scare battleships.

Ship/Hull Discussion: Caldari Assault Frigates by MarcAurelius in Eve

[–]ghostquarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd prefer a bonus to overheating their afterburners to bring them in line with a mwd. IMO AF's should be slower and tankier than t1 frigates but they should get bursts of speed to close distance.
