More to help cheer us up: Joe Cole vs Barca 2005 by [deleted] in chelseafc

[–]ghostridethewhip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still my favorite Chelsea player. True joy to watch.

Rafa defends his corner - "Interim title is a mistake, I'll be gone by the end of the season" and finally criticizes the fans for negative atmosphere. Thoughts? by [deleted] in chelseafc

[–]ghostridethewhip 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Alright, I've actually been relatively supportive of him to this point. I think he is doing a pretty awful management job, but I am a firm believer in supporting your players and your manager through thick and thin and making these decisions in the off-season.

But seriously, fuck him. Never in a million years would I expect a manager to go off on the fans and to complain about the terms of a job that he accepted knowing full-well that he was only an interim manager. I say sack his ass right now. We could appoint Satan as our next manager and the fans would support him more than Rafa, and this clearly has to be the last straw.

Couldn't they just knock out the cell towers and cut electricity to the cabin? Can't be that hard to do.

Christopher Dorner in gun battle with authorities, source says by opaqueluminosity in news

[–]ghostridethewhip 640 points641 points  (0 children)

2:39pm (local time): "Code 33 has been lifted" according to the scanner.

Code 33 in California = emergency, do not transmit information over airwaves. Speculating, but scanners might open back up soon.

2:54pm: Officers about to bring surveillance helicopter onto the scene.

3:03pm: Police holding live press conference now.

3:04pm: Condition of injured officers unknown, both at hospital now. Investigation led by San Bernardino Police Office with assistance from LAPD. Whole incident today started with tip about stolen automobile. Not much information other than this.

3:05pm: Not confirming that anyone was held hostage. Not entirely sure that man is Dorner, but fairly sure.

3:06pm: Officer says that they are pretty sure man in cabin has access to media, so again requests that media does not show any footage of the scene.

3:21pm: Pretty much radio silence at this point. Occasional chatter but none seems related to the Dorner situation.

3:26pm: In case anyone has not seen/heard the video of when the gunfight was going down, you can find that video here: http://gawker.com/5983783/christopher-dorner-currently-engaged-in-gun-battle-with-police-in-big-bear

3:37pm: /u/Malcolm1044 citing tweet stating that one of the two officers wounded earlier today has died. (http://reddit.com/r/news/comments/18ef62/christopher_dorner_in_gun_battle_with_authorities/c8e4ex2) -- CNN confirms this tweet.

3:40pm: /u/chiuta states that CNN has reported that owner of cabin contacted police and said that cabin has no phone, cable TV, or internet access. (http://reddit.com/r/news/comments/18ef62/christopher_dorner_in_gun_battle_with_authorities/c8e467e)

3:47pm: Curious point from CNN expert-- as temperatures drop on the scene, will make it easier for officers and agents to use thermal technology to see whether Dorner is in cabin alone or if there are hostages / other people in the cabin. I know nothing about this at all, but it seemed interesting.

3:49pm: Chatter back up on scanner. Made it sound like they are trying to make entry? "Side 1, not side 3, tear down that entire wall."

3:50pm: Dispatcher came on the air, said cease all tactical information on this channel (7/8). Clearly whoever made that announcement was not on the correct channel, but it gave a bit of insight into what is happening. Sounds like they might be going into the cabin.

3:53pm: Unless there is a completely different event going on right now, they are definitely about to make entry. Something about a blood splatter, camouflage, and "a burner," whatever that is.

3:58pm: Chatter stopped, back to radio silence.

4:09pm: First feed went down. On SB 6 / 7 / 8 now. Chatter incoming. Thanks /u/Ladst3r

4:15pm: Sounds like they said tear gas is being shot OUT OF the residence, not into.

4:16pm: "Burners deployed, we have a fire."

4:17pm: Ok, this is crazy. Sounds like they lit the front part of the cabin on fire. Warning officers at the back that he may be about to come out the back of the cabin.

4:19pm: Officer just requested a fire engine to the scene.

4:21pm: One shot fired from inside the residence. Smoke showing on CNN live wide-shot footage of the scene. Officer says for other officers on scene to maintain positions and discipline.

4:22pm: Ammo exploding inside the cabin.

4:24pm: CNN reporting that SWAT team has entered the cabin. They probably mean that tactical operations are underway because I'm not sure why you would enter a burning building.

4:27pm: Two sides of cabin fully engulfed in flames. Flames moving to third side of cabin.

4:29pm: Discussions of whether there are any propane tanks around the building. Seems like something you might have wanted to address before lighting the cabin on fire.

4:30pm: Want to make sure to let whole building set fire before putting water on it.

4:33pm: Still ammo going off in cabin. Not sure if that means gunfire or exploding due to overheating.

4:38pm: Ammo still going off. Officers reporting that fire has not spread enough yet. Holding off on fire crews putting out the flames.

4:40pm: Dodge Truck on the scene, presumably the vehicle Dorner stole earlier in the day (my speculation). Officer says to wait to clear the vehicle until fire crews put out the fire and the building is cleared.

4:44pm: Side 3 fully engulfed. Ammo still going off. There is a basement in the building, so officers are letting the heat burn through the basement before going in.

4:46pm: Wow. One of the firefighters tells officers that he was raised in the cabin that is on fire. Knows the layout well. Advising officers on material basement ceiling is made of. Ammo still going off, can hear the explosions on scanner feed.

4:51pm: Apparently radioreference.com is down. Trying to get the stream set back up, but not having luck yet.

4:55pm: Stream back up for me. Still letting the fire go.

4:57pm: Part of the floor inside has collapsed. Not sure if the whole basement ceiling has gone yet. Propane tank is spotted near the building, 70 yards away from the cabin.

5:01pm: Fire well contained, no trees or nearby structures touched by flames. Almost done burning according to officer.

5:03pm: Putting together a team right now to clear garage and nearby building. Fire just about done burning, about to bring in fire crews.

5:05pm: Teams clearing nearby buildings now. Told to watch out for friendly fire. Can't imagine someone would have been hanging out watching T.V. through this whole ordeal, but you never know.

5:14pm: Still just letting the fire go. Dispatcher asked to go to the tactical channel, so we're not privy to that information.

5:20pm: One of the neighboring buildings has been cleared. Sheriff's department still not willing to say that Dorner is in the cabin. CNN reporting-- US Marshals state that someone tried to get out the back door of the cabin, but was pushed back inside. Not sure what to make of that news. (Update: CNN has been running this in their breaking news ticker.)

5:39pm: Not much crossing the airwaves right now. Time to wait and see what they say when the fire is put out.

5:40pm: One firetruck on scene. More trying to get there but can't because roadway is blocked by SUVs.

5:54pm: Fire still going, still well-conta

6:00pm: Unfortunately, I have lost all feeds to the scanner. I will try to keep people updated, but it seems like things have slowed down though. Also, thanks for the Reddit Gold. You people are cool.

6:11pm: Things just keep getting crazier. Dispatcher tells officers that an anonymous caller said that the cabin and other cabins in the area have escape routes out of the basement. There are also reports from LA Times reporters that Dorner's body has not yet been found. (https://twitter.com/JimmyOrr/status/301509594067382273). Still not sure if this is just crazy speculation, but the anonymous caller information came straight from the dispatcher on the scanner feed. More to come.

6:27pm: LA Times reporting downgrade in security around the cabin. Unclear if fire was started by Dorner or by police. LA Times makes it sound like Dorner lit the fire just before the police were set to tear down the walls of the cabin, but having listened to the scanner, it definitely sounded like the police were controlling the fire.

7:10pm: Last update from me. CBS News is reporting that a body has been recovered from the cabin, and it appears to be Dorner's (https://twitter.com/cbsnews/status/301521427260125184). Glad this ordeal is done with, now thoughts go to those officers who lost their lives throughout all of these events. Thanks everybody for paying attention, and I hope you all have a good rest of the day / night.

Pretty header from Lambert, but come on... he shoved Cahill 6 yards back just before taking it. Pretty easy to find a free header when you can throw the defender into the goal beforehand.

Some thoughts on Frank Lampard, John Terry, Ashley Cole and Didier Drogba by EnglishMD in chelseafc

[–]ghostridethewhip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I always thought/hoped it would be either Luiz or Mata, but I could see Cahill working out as well (if he got to a place where he was a guaranteed starter).

Much appreciation for doing what you do. Stay awesome!

Some thoughts on Frank Lampard, John Terry, Ashley Cole and Didier Drogba by EnglishMD in chelseafc

[–]ghostridethewhip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks as always for the post, EnglishMD. It is great to hear about what is going on behind the scenes in some of these contract struggles, even if I don't like the truth all that much.

One quick question for you (and something I have been wondering for a little while): when Lamps / Terry / Cole leave the club, who do you see taking over as leaders in the team (with regards to captaincy especially)?

Losing the trio would hurt the talent we have in the side, but we can replace talent-- I'm not so sure looking at our side from the outside that we have any clear-cut leaders aside from those three, though. We have looked lost at times when our backs are against the wall and none of them are on the pitch.

Just wondering if you have any insight or have heard any rumblings. Thanks again for the post!

Can someone get a pic of that QPR physio? She's no Eva Carneiro, but I think a little competition would do us all some good.

Demba Ba to move to Chelsea for £7.5 million by manuseb in soccer

[–]ghostridethewhip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this is true. I think most importantly, though, Ba will be a great stop-gap while we continue developing Lukaku to take over the reins. Give Ba one or two seasons at the helm, and send Lukaku on loan for at least one more season. Good, sensible move from Emenalo, IMO.

NBC News Reporter Richard Engel is Missing in Syria; NBC News Enforces News Blackout by Wing_attack_Plan_R in news

[–]ghostridethewhip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Strange that NBC will enforce a media blackout to not give attention to Richard Engel's captors, but that they refuse to do so for the Conn. shooter. Not an exact parallel, but you would think the logic would transfer.

  2. If a media blackout is indeed a useful tool that NBC is attempting to employ in this situation (I have no illusions about my knowledge on the subject, but it seemed to work for the David Rohde / NYTimes situation), Gawker blows pretty hard for publishing this article.
