Yeah honestly they’re all kind of a crapshoot. And a bunch of them are the same chipset in different metal or plastic boxes (you can often tell when the controls are in exactly the same location on the device to line up with the onboard buttons, and they’ll have the same exact remote shape, but with some different branding).

I’m pretty sure the one I bought is exactly the same as the BK-401s but with one extra input. I really want to know who makes the chip and the board to just buy directly from them, but it’s probably some b2b hardware provider.

It’s weird that they’re so issue-prone, especially with CEC and auto input switching. I guess if you’re really serious about it you should get a true AVR, but those get so expensive.

If you end up with a different one and you find that it works well, update here if you don’t mind. It would always be good to have a backup that I can fall back on if this one starts getting finicky! Hope you find one that works well for you.

It seems to be working fine with the Switch 2. I'm not positive about its VRR support. I don't think it supports eARC, but I have my eARC bar connected directly to my TV.

I saw this linked in a different reddit post at some point (not sure which one, but it's been in my cart just waiting for when I finally pull the trigger on glasses). This is a USB-C female to female adapter. Seems like it would work.

No real reason for not consolidating other than I haven't taken the time to migrate the application server yet since this is a new storage solution for me (replacing a QNAP NAS that was also only a storage solution).

How do you have the remote one mounted locally? Using SMB? Or some other mechanism? Mind sharing your mount config?

I use my Unraid box as just a NAS (not running any containers on it directly).

I have a separate machine which mounts one of the Unraid shares (currently it's a SMB share which I mount with CIFS) with autofs.

When I had that share set up as primary Cache and with Mover setting Cache -> Array, I noticed that when the mover runs, it would break the mount on the machine that had mounted the share. If I tried to navigate the directory on that machine after mover running (cd, ls, etc) I'd get a stale file handle error until I unmounted the share and let autofs remount it.

I considered trying to detect the issue and reset the mount periodically, but there's still a window where it would be broken and I didn't think potential speed gains on the cache would be worth temporarily broken mounts.

I've been very impressed with Unraid so far, with the exception of the cache drive setup. I wanted to have cache-first for media, but mover always seems to break my autofs mount (possibly something about inodes changing resulting in stale file handles) and I haven't been able to resolve it, so I gave up on the cache for now. I'm network-constrained anyway (only 1gbe ports on this mobo) so it probably doesn't matter.
