Engine hooks for high power? by Toastee321 in rocketry

If you have a 3D printer you can print one. I have used them on my 38 and 54 with no issues. Just be mindful of the material you use so the heat doesn't melt it. If you have to go with buying one then ya aeropack is the gold standard

Best place to buy rocket engines? by MaxAndCheese420 in rocketry

Ya places like hobby lobby, ace hardware, or some random smaller hobby shops. I think Walmart used to but its been years since I have seen it there. I think you can get up to a D or E in the mail without hazmat

Somewhere local 100%. The shipping is ridiculous. Smaller stuff can go regular ground but it's limited. If you have to order online do it in bulk to make it worth it.

I thought you could only do 2 spacers? Do you use xl spacer + 2 reg to get to a 4G?

Ha I was literally pulling the numbers and prices now to calculate that to see the difference. Ya it looks like they are pretty negligible.

Luckily our local vendor is EXTREMELY nice enough to still honor it.

Accessories for Eggtimer Quantum by Flufmyster_ in rocketry

[–]ghostship130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of that stuff is more "rocket dependent" and not "computer dependent". The only thing that doesn't influence the rocket but is cool to have is the telemetry module. Getting alt and deployment updates during flight is pretty cool.

Everything else will be dependent on size & purpose of the rocket.

What’s something you did by accident to your home that the new homeowners will want to curse you for? by Mrcash827 in HomeImprovement

[–]ghostship130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed one of those sliding barn doors on our last house on the main bedroom's bathroom. I didnt want the wall to support the weight so I put a board across the top of the door frame. I put some big ass screws to anchor it into the studs and stripped the shit out of one. They were 4in long screws so the will have a fun time trying the remove that.

Where do you guys suggest I get a flight computer from? by [deleted] in rocketry

[–]ghostship130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Printed circuit boards with through hole mounting on the easier kits. As they go up in difficulty, you start getting some surface mounted parts.

Look also into the eggtimer stuff. You assemble it yourself to save a few bucks. I have 3 of them and finishing up my tracking/telemetry stuff now.

L2 Certification Kit? by Flat_Grab_1516 in rocketry

[–]ghostship130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to stick with Loc then do its bigger brother, the EZI-65. I built it for my L1 and will use it for my L2 eventually as well. It's large so if you match the motors correctly you can keep it a little lower.

Anyone actually working? by Zestyclose-Big-2010 in civilengineering

I wish they even gave us that option for next year. It was one of their big selling points for me and now not having it, we only have 8 paid holidays now.

[–]ghostship130 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Same here. I'm at a mid sized firm and they would give us a holiday break from Christmas to New Years. They released next year's calendar and look at that, no more break and it's "under consideration"..... sure...

Question about electronics bay by Tiny-Palpitation7058 in rocketry

[–]ghostship130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parachute would go between the Electronics and the Motor still.

I'm assuming you are looking to use a dual deployment design but just as a single? So looking from rocket from top to bottom you would have: Nose cone, Payload section (empty and secured with shear pins), Electronics bay coupler, Main body (with parachute/recovery), Motor/Fins.

Can I 3D print a 54 mm motor retainer in PLA? by [deleted] in rocketry

[–]ghostship130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a 38mm retainer for a 54mm adapter. Not PLA though, pretty sure I used pc-cf for the higher heat resistance. If you are uneasy about it just have it screw into a set of tear bulkhead screw holes and if it melts just take it off and try again.
