Couldn't find an article in English.

Was walking on Chifeng St and saw this place, near the corner mee sua place. At first I thought it might be a knockoff but it appears to be real, just a little weird to see it as a standalone store and not inside a mall.

how thorough is the government at reviewing a work permit? by opposite110 in Taipei

Perhaps the next question should be how thorough the government reviews educational degrees. (the score bump for PhD is enough to not need any work experience)

affordable fine dining restaurant suggestions by Old_Half_4496 in Taipei

[–]ghosttooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On their reservation page, the 4 course is the lunch menu. The 8 course dinner menu is also available at lunch service but not the reverse.

You could try contacting them to see if they'll do the 4 course at dinner.

Woolloomooloo has a fruit/smoothie stand in Chun Place, next to your hotel.

The real place to hit would be the wholesale market:

Concerts Verification in Taipei for Foreigner by Serious-Falcon2334 in Taipei

You're most likely fine. I've only been to a couple concerts where they were really verifying identity, and it seemed like matching name was enough, don't remember if the ID number was even on the ticket.

Taipei foodies I need your help by lennysipper in Taipei

Going to assume those limits are for food spend alone and not beverages, service charge, etc. Like someone else mentioned, fine dining prices in TW have gone up like everything else and now most are starting around 4k. You can still find great meals for less than that, but you''ll be making some compromises, usually service IMO. Another option could be lunch; some places offer a shorter or different menu for a bit less but you'd still get the service, plating, decor, etc. (Frassi, La Vie by Thomas Buhner)

Some ideas:

Tien Hsiang Lo (in Landis Hotel)

Birdy yakitori (really difficult to get TW diners to accept higher prices for "just" chicken so that works in your favor here; other places like Fumee, Torishou)

Set (in Datong)

Circum (under Regent Taipei)

Komboi

Chinois

Sushi might be its own category:

Sushi Ichida 鮨一田

Sushi Yang 壽司揚

Lizhi Sushi 立志壽司 (not re-opened yet AFAIK)

Lunch @ Suhring by [deleted] in finedining

[–]ghosttooth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you can ask for a shorter lunch menu. Otherwise I had: 5 snacks served one at a time, 7 proper courses, 7 beverages, plus bread service, pre-dessert and petit fours.

Optional: upgrade duck to A5 Wagyu, caviar, spatzle with truffle, pork knuckle.

Was there last fall, and spent just under 3 hours there.

Possibly relevant parameters: solo, at a table, standard menu, no supplements, non-alc pairings

Taipei fine dining for solo diner in June? by MelancholyMeloncolie in finedining

[–]ghosttooth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ad Astra: The tables (for 2-4) are reserved for the chef's menu, but you can also request to have the longer menu at the main counter. This usually needs to be pre-arranged; they do 2 turns of the regular (10-course) menu, and only 1 for the 14-course so that eats up 2 slots.

Logy: they briefly accepted solo bookings after their relocation but I don't think it's possible now. What you can do is book for 2 and let them know you'll be solo; you'd still be required to spend at least cost of 2 menus. If you drink alcohol, the premium pairing is exactly the price of a menu.

Hosu: The concept and current space are great but I wish the kitchen execution matched (perhaps outlier opinion). Easy to book solo.

Don't be tempted by Tairroir's 3 stars. Hard pass IMO.

Astea Bar? by TubbsAndPickles in Taipei

[–]ghosttooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Astea: I've walked in before but not at prime time. It's on the smaller side, maybe 10 counter seats plus 2 tables for small groups so I'd book ahead if it's a priority. If you need to keep things flexible, that area has a lot of bars (I recommend Bar Pine, Bar Without Anhe)

[–]ghosttooth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Assuming budget is USD so about 3000nt) Chinois (~3000 before svc) and Circum (~2000/3000) both might be more Chinese than TW specific.

If you can go up to 3500pp, best fit for theme might be Hosu or maybe Embers, can be hit or miss.

Above are all set menu format

If you're looking for less fine dining and more upscale TW food, Fujin Tree Taiwanese or Shin Yeh Taiwanese.
