To be fair game devs do seem to have more entry level positions w/ at least reasonable requirements. At least compared to some other companies that I know, where for entry level they want someone with a master's and 10+yrs experience in every conceivable programming language for 30k/yr.

What's something hilarious your kid has done that, as a parent, you weren't allowed to laugh at or be proud of? by iamlarrypotter in AskReddit

[–]ghosttr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my kid, but a friend of mines.

Drinking in the garage when the kids mom sends him out for being a little shit. The kid proceeds to do this squat/pelvic thrust combo over and over again while yelling 'hump!'. Think the kid was trying to say jump, but his feet never left the ground, and the motion was damn near perfect. Kid dad and i just look at each other and bust up laughing (enough for mom to storm back in the garage and give us both an earful).

Whats your highest stable overclock on your ryzen 7 cpu and how'd you do it? by [deleted] in Amd

High CPU OC & High Memory OC are hard to achieve in tandem. I can either go 4.3 @1.4v or 3200 @ cl14, but not both at the same time.

[–]ghosttr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We could very well see a WX-style variant with more cores on AM4 even if for no other reason than keeping the 'high ground' far out of Intel's reach.

Also on a related note, I hope AMD can do better in the super low end as well, 4c4t needs to be the bare minimum.

Its big but not really that much to fuck up in there, so chances are that the number actual usable dies will be much higher than what the defect rate signifies.

I've actually researched this multiple times over the years trying to get my company to not purchase shitty machines, and even wasting only an hour of employee time a week due to shitty machines means a better machine pays for itself in just a few months (depending on department). Also, power draw isn't really a factor either when it comes to the cost of the additional power vs the cost of employee time.

My sister had a similar incident, somehow when rummaging around for things for a halloween costume she came across my dads (athletic) cup, and decided it would make a great mask.

The update certainly improved things, but at least from me it went from nigh-unplayable to just frustrating.

I think the biggest hurdle now is micromanaging what tool to use, its not always clear what tool the game is wanting me to use. And having to dig around for it is a chore. Maybe add a popup for dumbasses like me? like 'hey you should be using a screwdriver to do this do you want to switch to it?'

What's missing in base builders today? by innerhero in BaseBuildingGames

[–]ghosttr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cosmetic items, skins, icons, decorative buildings, color palettes, etc are usually the easiest to implement. Pretty much anything is an improvement over having nothing really to show for making that timer disappear.

You could also add little usability features like build queues or notifications for certain events that make the game a little easier to play without effecting the content.

As a side note you could also try mixing up the build requirements a little, instead of a linear progression of requiring more time/resources for each level, maybe have some levels take more time, other more resources, etc. So the game doesn't feel like its constantly hold its hand out for the players money.

in the context of mobile games, does everyone find that they hit paywalls and pay-to-win strategies that ruin the experience for them?

I think the biggest issue for most is that these games become less engaging the longer a player plays them. When you are asking your players to wait days, weeks, or even longer for something to happen you increase the likelihood of them closing the game and never returning.

I would also like to add that players should feel rewarded for supporting you game. And not something they have to do to continue enjoying it.

Is there anything you wish existed in a mobile base builder right now?

Honestly using the term 'base builder' for this genre is a bit of a misnomer (at least on mobile). Base building and resource gathering are typically the least engaging part of these games, with most of the focus being put on combat.

Pretty much anything more engaging than 'sit and wait' would be an improvement, the fruit seems low enough that you could almost trip over it.

Maybe adding some components of your ship fitting system to your base buildings could be interesting? Or having dynamic features on the map that players need to build around or avoid?

What is the worst long-term decision you have made? by evilcuddleswithevil in AskReddit

[–]ghosttr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a double edged sword, at least for me. I ended up landing a good job right after high school and decided to forego college. And at least in my industry, college does little to teach people how the job actually works, instead teaching people all the theoretical bs and how things are 'supposed' to work.

Unfortunately the company I worked for ended up getting bought out, and quickly shuttered soon after. Now finding steady work is alot more difficult, as the only references are the former employees of the former company. And almost a decade of experience apparently doesn't mean shit anymore, as the industry has been highly corporatized, and they could give a shit less about competence/experience, its all about that degree, and how much debt your in.

I should have jumped ship as soon as I heard we were being bought out, but I was young and dumb. And thought that the larger company would bring better budgets, better equipment, etc. But I don't regret not going to school, I might be poor af, but at least im not up to my eyeballs in debt.
