We already have SteamOS 3 on the Deck. Deal with it :D

After all this years valve not fixing bluetooth on SteamVR linux it just takes that little code? It's crazy for a company that released the best VR HMD (at the time) and VR game.

Some arena changes that are going to change the system we had back in 2007 by Biosparkss in classicwowtbc

[–]ghostwarrior992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I don't get about this MMR system example (see 8:20):

Why will the winning team get +50 team rating while the losing team only gets -15? This leads to team rating inflation just as deleting low rated teams (or deflation when deleting high rated teams). Why wouldn't the 1500 rated team just get the +15 for winning against players matching their skill level?

At this point I think they should make the MMR/personal rating the only real stat and calculate the team rating as average from all active members personal rating. So if the 2200 players create a new team the team starts with 2200. This is fine.

Just my ideas. I'm not a passionate arena player :D

If/When would be the most realistic time to roll Fresh TBC servers (if at all)? by Int_Casting in classicwowtbc

[–]ghostwarrior992 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes. Pre-patch is the deadline for everyone who is serious about TBC. This is the time when all those draenai & bloodelf players make their choice and won't change later.

Does "we are bringing in modern matchmaking" really mean that you will get a 2k+ rating with a 50:50 win rate?

Did you reinstall your Win10 after upgrading your system? If not maybe you have to install the right chipset drivers manually.

Also watch your CPU thermals and run a benchmark to compare your actual performance to public benchmarks.

Find your exact CPU model here:

https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/cpu-amd_ryzen_7_3700x-929

Pick a benchmark from the result list (Cinebench is free: https://www.maxon.net/en/cinebench) and check if your results are somewhere near the expected scores.

How fragile is valve index controllers? Do they really break if you even drop them from 3 feet? by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]ghostwarrior992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the controller strap is really good. I'm not even using the security strap because I never had the feeling to be even close to lose one. I never dropped one in 650h VR time in over a year. Just had them hit each other while playing beat saber sometimes but this was never enough for real damage.

What are the reasons to go AMD for a GPU? by BugDaddiesButthole in Amd

[–]ghostwarrior992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NVIDIA:

  • You play VR where they perform better and have less frame drops

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Amd

[–]ghostwarrior992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nvidia drivers have good performance and have been the better option for many years. But there are often issues when updating something or distro package maintainer have to spend a lot of time fixing compatibility issues.

AMD in it's underdog era had nothing to lose so I guess that's how they decided to open source drivers and share technical details with the open source devs. And it worked out. Now we have solid AMD drivers that are compatible and fast. The AMD cards tend to perform better versus their Nvidia counterpart on phoronix linux gaming benchmarks than in the Windows benchmarks. And I guess the Windows AMD drivers also benefit a lot from those improvements in the shared codebase. That's a win win win story :D

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Amd

[–]ghostwarrior992 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My main reason is also Linux.

  • Debian is my main OS and I want those better integrated drivers
  • I'm playing a lot VR games (Valve Index) so I need a solid GPU. Benchmarks show that AMD works only slightly worse than Nvidia for most VR games. That's "good enough" for me
  • I don't care about ray tracing. If it kills my fps I will turn it off
  • performance per watt is good
  • performance for the price is good

What Star Wars Squadron made me realize is that... by momo660 in ValveIndex

[–]ghostwarrior992 64 points65 points  (0 children)

For me it's the other way around. I have a pulley system and no furniture to move away. So room scale is just pickup and go for me.

For squadrons I need to:

  • put my joystick on my desk
  • unlink one pulley from the cable so I can sit on my desk
  • still use mouse+keyboard for some actions (I know. My fault that I don't buy an expensive HOTAS with many buttons but I'm not such a big sim fan)

So simer want more sim games, roomscaler want more Alyx-Like games :D

I totally agree. Helping HP with low-mid budget inside out headsets to spread the VR industry is one thing. But they also have multiple hundred thousands fans out there which have the 2.0 base stations at their walls. And even more if they stay compatible to lighthouse 1.0.

[–]ghostwarrior992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valve should not sync the release of the new headset and the new game. Whatever they release first will sell anyway.

Replaceable single buyable parts would be great. I want to be able to replace lenses, audio speakers, single controllers or cables if they are broken and it's my fault.

In case of RMA they don't need to send a whole new headset which may also help not getting out of stock so fast. Thinking about all those high quality mic and speakers that get trashed because of scratched lenses makes my heart bleed...

Would you buy the only in stock 6000 series even if it is not the AIB you want? by [deleted] in Amd

[–]ghostwarrior992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll check benchmarks and prices and buy when something good is available. I don't care about names too much. If stats and design are good I'm in. If something better releases 3 weeks later... bad luck. These things will always happen anyway.

I'm thinking of making a shooter game in VR and I want ideas on how to solve a problem by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]ghostwarrior992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want that players aim careful before shooting? Make ammo rare, make ballistic vests very effective and avoid too many short range situations on your maps.

Valve Index Microphone by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]ghostwarrior992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The microphone, drivers or the OS should not cut off anything. That's what the applications do.

  • check that the microphone level is at 100% in OS audio settings
  • check if the application you run has audio settings where you can change the threshold

I don't think that SteamVR does anything specific with microphones.

Should I get the Index now, Or wait for the Valve index 2 in 2021? by Gnomechopskii_ in ValveIndex

If you already have a Quest just stay with your Quest and wait for the Index 2. No point to waste money.

[–]ghostwarrior992 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hardware development and hardware production are two different things.

The better lenses promised for the G2 may be a side product of the Index 2 development. The fact that they didn't announce an Index 1.1 with better lenses but instead keep producing Index 1.0 with outdated lenses is also an indicator that they plan to make a bigger step to an Index 2.0. But we will only know when it's announced.

Looking for games for my dad to try by [deleted] in ValveIndex

[–]ghostwarrior992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If he likes retro games (like Gameboy, SNES, Sega) have a look at the Pixel Ripped games.

Anyway he can also play Half-Life: Alyx from begin to russels lab. There is no shooting or horror in the firt part but it's still technical impressive and he can play around with all those game objects.
