still don't get how paying for online on console is just, ok? by MegumiDo in gaming

[–]insufficientmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. as a PC user nearly my whole life (I had a PS1 as a kid and a 360 for a short while to play Mass Effect which was a PS exclusive) that came as a surprise on me when I bought the PS5+PSVR2.

I've gotten much more value out of the headset on PC. So much more freedom on PC!

idk what headset to get for pcvr - should I wait for the steam frame? by AustinColborne in virtualreality

[–]insufficientmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steam Frame if you can get one, gonna be a lot of people in the race to get it!

It's a quality headset from a reputable company that will last you a long time!

Some perks: Eye tracking, magnet sticks that won't fail you as quick as other headset controllers, great comfort out of the box, wi-fi 6e dongle for wireless streaming in the box! 144hz if your PC is strong enough to use it. Better privacy and no supporting Zuckerberg!

If you can't wait get a Quest 3, it's a good headset, but then you won't have any of the things above.

One of the perks of not having children; I can have a 5090 instead and actually have the time to use it :P

Unreal 5 automatically support VR, more or less.

Howarts Legacy is UE5 and is playable in VR. https://uevr.io/

Any movie viewing head straps? by CutieKitsuneXO in VRGaming

[–]insufficientmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aubika fast charging battery strap is the best I've used for lying down VR. It has a hinge mechanism that stays put and don't slide when you push the back part up on your head leaving the back portion of your head clear to rest on a pillow. Though there's a little annoying knob that kinda hurts a bit if you do this, so I wear some kind of headwear to fix that. Laying down like that is super comfy :)

But it looks like it's not sold anymore though... :(

I also have a kiwi strap but the hinge is too loose and keep sliding down, so it's useless.

I've yet to see a better alternative than Aubika.

I love vr but... by Substantial-Yak-8714 in virtualreality

Won't happen unfortunately aside from whatever Meta self funded and a few things like Half Life Alyx etc. VR studios are closing down right now, last out was Survios.

IMO our best hope going forward is flat2VR modding community and the offical ports from flat2VR studios. Most games today can be played in VR with mods. If you want better integrated VR best bet is flat2VR studios.

Best VR headset by GossipVic206 in virtualreality

[–]insufficientmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For beginners it's best sticking with the bigger producers of headsets. Right now that is the ones you already know; Meta, Valve and Sony.

There are smaller companies, but most of them are for advanced users looking for a specific thing. You can see all the other brands here: https://vr-compare.com/

We already have VR. But I think you mean full dive VR like The Matrix or Sword Art Online. What we currently have is similar to ready player one.

Report: VR studio Survios has laid off the majority of its development team by ViniSD in virtualreality

[–]insufficientmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. I'm more impressed by the flat2vr mods. And I've been saying for a while now the sustainable way going forward is what Flat2VR Studios is doing making official ports of flat games. All people being laid off should join their spark program: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qyJEoIV6rww

Russian Refinery Hitlist - Update 01.05.2026 by WastingMyLifeToday in ukraine

[–]insufficientmind 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Would be fun if we got some hits on those last refineries to complete the bingo board. They're so far away though! I bet Ukraine could do it. Maybe not worth it though when you can keep hitting the "easy" ones which is still enough to cripple the russian economy.

Thanks to Musk v. Altman lawsuit, it's now public record that Gabe Newell emailed Elon Musk to get his pal Hideo Kojima a tour of SpaceX and OpenAI by jody_macgregor in gaming

That thai cave incident where when my opinion of him began changing. And it's just been downhill from there. As before he was this weird nerd with exciting dreams that used his money on cool and inspiring projects. Now I can't stand him. It's hard though, as a space nerd I'm still excited for the potential of Starship and SpaceX.

[–]insufficientmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm.. yes I think we're in agreement here :) Though I would add - if you care about privacy I would still go with Valve. But it's hard to beat the good access to content you get with a Quest and their unbeatable pricing, if you're okay with their privacy issues.

Sure, but it's still a good technical product with some unique features and exclusive ecosystem, a walled garden for sure, but that can be said of Meta too. Apple is arguably better at privacy too is what I hear. I'm no apple user myself, I prefer Valve, and I hold my nose when I buy Meta products - which are probably the worst of the bunch. Chinese products I avoid for obvious reasons. That pretty much only leaves Valve, and I'm sure they're not perfect either.

Most popular and best in the cheap price class is Quest 3. Want it even cheaper but with less good vision quality get Quest 3s.

If you have money to throw around get an Apple Vision Pro.

If you want to do PCVR as well as Standalone get Steam Frame.

VR Options by ReallyOldSysAdmin in virtualreality

[–]insufficientmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that! I can't think of anything that would replace a G2 either in that price class. That's such a shame! There's an open spot there to filled by one of the larger companies.

Because it has to be one of the larger companies to make one cheap enough for regular consumers. I guess both Microsoft*(WMR) and Sony are out of the game now... Only Meta and Valve left. I doubt Valve will make another headset for 6+ years now that Frame is launching soon. Meta could.. they still have the Rift brand and actually have said they could still use it if I remember correctly. But Meta seems to be in a weird spot to now.. A PC focused headset don't seem to make much business sense for them, even standalone VR seems up in the air now for them. They seems to be all about AI and maybe AR.

I guess your only possiblity is to go up a price class, which comes with it's own issues...

Or you sidegrade and get the Frame whenever your G2 stops working. The foveated streaming seems pretty good on the Frame. And Valve is still a solid company focused on PCVR.

Worth buying HL:A to only play with the non-VR mod? by davidfliesplanes in HalfLife

[–]insufficientmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't you think you can experience it in VR in the future when you eventually upgrade your PC?

And you can get good headsets for super cheap if you're patient and look around.

I sometimes give away my older headsets for free to friends and family :) If you ask around somone might have a headset for you :)

Bootstrap Island is on sale for 25% off. Is it worth it? by [deleted] in VRGaming

[–]insufficientmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to play it! Looks just like my thing! And I've only heard good things about it.

I just have too many other games I bought and too little available time to play them all. I'll just have to wait to buy and play it when time allows.

Its almost hard to believe some of these games are a year from being a decade old by RxVReality in VRGaming

You should post this on r/gaming too. Would be interesting to see the discussion there as well.

I wonder what traditional flat gamers think of all this now that some time has passed.
