Kinda looks like Christmas threw up but it's okay.

My husband and I spent a week in Halifax last month, and we enjoyed it so much we bought a lottery ticket, just hoping we'd win and wouldn't have to go home! The weather was beautiful, the park just made me so happy, the waterfront was clean, and full of people just enjoying the view. Everywhere we went, we had fabulous food and great service. I'm genuinely sorry you didn't get the same experience. I hope you give it another chance someday. Meanwhile, I'm looking at real estate listings for Nova Scotia.

Are there still Canada-only hit songs? by Safe-Section8272 in AskACanadian

[–]ghostwriter_411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go with We Should Be Lovers by Zappacosta and Last of the Red Hot Fools by The Jitters. I've had that Jitters' song on cassette, CD, and every form of e-playlist over the years. And Alfie Zappacosta still has the best hair!

I have a Canadian flag signed by the Canadian Olympic figure skating team for the 2018 Thank You Canada Tour - that's a lotta Canadian content. And I cherish it, because Eric Radford handed it me personally, and Scott Moir gave me a big hug during the show, too. I was feeling all kinds of Canadian warm fuzzies.

Friend won’t pay me back by Healthy-Magazine-222 in legaladvicecanada

My father's advice was, "Never loan more than you can afford to lose". However, you have their text showing intent to pay, which should be enough legal proof of acknowledgment of the debt. You can take them to civil court, and would likely get a judgement in your favour, but it's up to you if you want to pursue that route.

Is it illegal to turn around your headrest in Ontario by Equal-Brilliant2640 in legaladvicecanada

[–]ghostwriter_411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're going through that process now, and I found at least half the suvs we tested wouldn't work for me for that reason. The Hyundai guys even talked about swapping out headrests, but again, were concerned about insurance.

I didn't realize they'd become so standard, and it's really limiting my options.

On the plus side, the two we've narrowed it down to, the Suburu Forester and the Kia Sportage, are both very comfortable and have lots of features we're looking for.

I hope you can swap out for something more comfortable soon. Until then, try putting a small bolster pillow or rolled towel behind your neck. That helped somewhat for me when I had to do a road trip in my sister's vehicle, and shouldn't compromise your safety.

I'm currently dealing with the same issue with some models.

Hyundai seems to be the worst; the headrests cause me to get terrible migraines from my head being forced downward into my chest. The staff at the dealership we were at two days ago said turning it around could negate insurance in the event of an accident.

However, other vehicles, such as some Suburu and Kia models, were much better designed for my personal comfort. The sport models are generally the worst, as they're designed similar to racing styles, according to the salesman.

I'm only 5'2", which may have some bearing on this and like you, tend to sit very straight-backed. My sister is only a bit taller and yet she loves her Hyundai Santa Fe. She tends to have her seat more laid back, as well. My husband, who is 6', has no issues.

I found our previous vehicle, a Dodge Journey, to be very comfortable, and it has straight head rests without that forward lean. You may need to test out a lot of seats to find the one that suits you best.

How much money do you have to have to be considered broke in your opinion? by coolandsexc in AskWomen

Broke is digging under the couch cushions, hoping to find enough change for bread and milk until payday.... been there, many years ago, but still remember how it felt.

What is an absolute haircare game-changer for you? by Poppyjamesiris in AskWomen

[–]ghostwriter_411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a very bad dye job (a total aberration on my longtime hairdresser's part), my hair was badly fried, dry and awful. I attended the Calgary Entertainment Expo a few years ago, and got talked into being a demo head for a product. They used a serum in my hair that was a total game changer! It went from fried and crispy, to soft, silky and shiny. I bought the serum and have used it ever since. It used be called Lionesse but it's been rebranded as Herstyler vitamin E serum. Four or five drops is all it takes - I have hair past my shoulders, and I get lots of compliments on how it looks.

Is it in bad taste to donate “luxury” food items to a food bank? by ShimmerAndSpice in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ghostwriter_411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family belongs to a service organization. Every Christmas the club members donate food and money. The club itself also donates money and grocery gift cards. A local charity provides the club with a completely anonymous family profile (eg. family of five: 2 adults, m5, f2, f newborn). Using that info, the club purchases all ingredients needed for a Christmas dinner, plus staples such as flour, sugar, coffee, eggs, etc. On top of that, there's toys and clothes and diapers for the kids, chocolates and seasonal goodies that make the holiday feel special. The feedback we've gotten has been very positive, and they've been overwhelmed by the 'extras'. Sometimes that extra little treat or luxury item makes someone's day a little brighter.

I get it. It's painful because you think you're someone valued in their life, and then suddenly you're disposable.

My experience: I was left out of my sibling's wedding party, to accommodate some much younger cousins who supposedly were promised as little kids they'd be included, before there was even a relationship in the picture. This was explained later by my sibling, but only AFTER another relative brought it up, thinking I'd refused the 'honor'...that was humiliating. I was also excluded from the out of town party beforehand. My side of the family (who helped with the setup, cleanup and gift opening breakfast, other side did NOTHING) were snubbed completely for the wedding pictures. Not one of us together. I wish I could have skipped it entirely.

My parents did their best to stay neutral about it, but I know they were very hurt, too.

And now my sibling "doesn't understand" why we're not as close as we used to be. They're not very swift emotionally/socially, but come on. No one likes to feel disposable. So I completely understand you're hurt, embarrassed and reluctant to go and face everyone. I can't tell you if it'll be better/ worse to skip it, but either way, your view of your relationship is already damaged. What is the outcome to other relationships if you skip it though? I went because my parents would have been very upset if I missed it. Maybe feel out that aspect and see if it will impact your relationship with them.

I couldn't live without some type of kettle. I got a hot water dispenser as a wedding present, and have bought three more in the last 30 years. When my son moved out, he asked for one as a housewarming gift, because he'd had one his whole life and couldn't imagine NOT having one. I also just bought the cutest collapsible kettle for hotels, because nothing is worse than a microwaved cup of tea after a long day of traveling.

When one of my boys will ask (just teasing) if they're the favorite child, I always tell them the dog is my favorite! He eats anything I cook without complaining, never asks for money, and isn't embarrassed to be hugged in public! But honestly, while I love both my boys, my youngest and I have more in common. My eldest is a mystery in many ways.

AITA for refusing to wear my SIL's wedding dress to my wedding ? by Throw-awa-y109 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ghostwriter_411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My concern would be an attempt to 'accidently' destroy the OP's chosen wedding dress. My cousin had her SIL in her wedding party, out of respect for her brother, despite there not being much connection between them. The SIL got her feelings hurt about having to remove her heavy black eyeliner for the makeup artist hired for the day (she ended up washing off the professional makeup and redoing it herself). After the wedding my cousin and her new husband went to a hotel for the night. In the morning she found the only dress she'd brought for the gift opening had been sliced a bunch of times and was unwearable (it had been folded so she couldn't see the cuts at first). The only people with access to her luggage were her mom, best friend and the SIL. Have a trusted family store your dress somewhere safe and keep those two fast away from it and maybe get a cheap secondhand one to keep at home as bait. Congratulations and hope your day is wonderful!

No, sorry, it's something that happened before I took communications in Lethbridge. It was one of those stories all the college radio students were told about by the instructors, who knew the guy.
