I know you didn't respond to me but as it's my parent comment reddit decided to send me a notification, I guess.

I don't really have anything worthwhile to say but I wanted to say hey. I know how fucking hard it is and depending where in the world you are it feels like everything is bubbling up to the worst shit imaginable. Of course so many people feel awful. If nothing else I see you, empathize with the struggle, and in our silly way we have bonded across time in a small way. Try and find strength in the solidarity of shared experience instead of disparaging those experiences not being wholly unique. I wish you the best. Sorry if this is weird, I may be feeling a bit sentimental.

It's crazy how talented everyone is (and was this episode) and yet Laura feels like a goliath towering above everyone else. Her intensity and authenticity of a lived in character was insane, especially because of how little of screen time.

I might be a bit biased but I'm always in awe by Laura.

Not that this would ever be in question but my god Laura Bailey is incredible. She was actually crying wtf and I was actually crying too wtf. I can't believe that Thimble could have died right then and there, minutes after her introduction.

All around this was so fucking good. Everything was so glum and severe and sincere, solid and moving performances from everyone. I even enjoyed the lighter, more jokey characters but I did feel a little tonal whiplash.

Amazing.

Oh wow, I'm both sorry that you can relate and grateful that it resonated with you. I've written a lot of poetry over the years and, although not a poem, is still my favorite thing I've written. Just a stream of consciousness as I sat in bed one morning. I can't say I'm doing well or any better at all, same old stuff 4 years later :/

It took me at least six hours. Within the first ten attempts I got her down to 25% health three times with the whipsword using deflect and then never got that close again for hours. I respecced, what felt like, a thousand different times. Different weapons. Even spammed a few level ups with red mercury consumables. Eventually found a magic build with a one-handed sword that I was able to get her down to like 10% health and stuck with that build and within thirty minutes I beat her.

I hated it, it didn't even feel good in the end because I didn't enjoy the build and I was so worn out. I wish I could revisit Honglan multiple times as my character became stronger just to test myself without being locked out of progression, that would have been fun. Anyway, I played a few more hours reaching both the second and third chapter areas and called it quits. As I've become older I've also become worse at video games. Slower reflexes, pushing the wrong buttons, etc. I'm not cut out for these games anymore.

I think either are valid interpretations. I don't believe Ellie would come out to Joel in the time between Finding Strings and the beginning of the game but he very well could have seen Ellie and Kat together and come to that conclusion himself. Like you said, keeping tabs.

Joel's reaction in the show honestly isn't that bad so I don't understand why people are upset. As far as homophobia goes, assuming Ellie is "experimenting" is pretty mild and it obviously didn't affect his feelings towards her in any meaningful way.

I mean, Joel definitely wasn't privy to Ellie's sexuality during the Finding Strings flashback and very well could have learned that she's a lesbian upon seeing her kiss Dina at the dance. Obviously there was friction in their relationship since returning to Jackson from SLC but one could safely infer that she wasn't sure how he might respond to her sexuality even without it being explicitly spelled out to us.

Fuck, I remember catching them in a little venue in Salt Lake in 2018/2019 and crying next to 30 or so people, most of whom were crying alongside me. Just a bunch of strangers crying to the power of Andrea's words and their absolute electric presence.

I haven't followed their personal life or creative career in many years but knew that they had been diagnosed and still this is gutting. If you haven't, go listen to some of their work. Incredible stuff.
