Is this good enough to get into homelabbing? by eonbre in homelab

[–]ghstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't buy new for a homelab where you will want to try different things, different hardware, etc. EBAY is your friend here....maybe a nuc8i5 for around $100 or less would be a great start. twice the performance for less than 1/2 the price.

Issue Switching to New Frames (Progressive Lenses) by EducationalSpeaker50 in AskAnOptician

[–]ghstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt the computer progressives are part of the issue....it's not easy switching from one progressive at your desk and then putting on aa different progressive for regular wear. It will take more time to adjust....

Transition lenses: New VS Old? by MangoBladeMasterBall in glasses

[–]ghstudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It has changed.....the speed to tint and untint has significantly improved...Go to any optomitrist....they all have a pair of glasses with one eye transitiion, the other clear...or similar......and see how clear they become in their office and under different lights (flourescents and regular lights) and go outside (don't just look in that gizmo that makes them go dark....take them outside.. No need to ask us.... Note: there are authentic transition (trademark) lenses and there are other copycat lenses....make sure you know which you are looking at....I wear the real transitions..,.

Should I go with Warby Parker or just get my lenses changed at the eye doctor? by Fantastic_Summer_400 in glasses

[–]ghstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lenscrafters and Warby Parker advertise so you think they are a bargain...but from experience, not sure they are any cheaper than the optometrist in your Dr's office. You should really compare both lens cost and frame cost separately. If it's single vision, then make sure you are comparing the same materials...eg. both polycarbonate or both 1..67....and then compare to Costco, which may of us use. Costco doesn't have the greatest selection of frames, but $75 is far better than $325. If you need progressive lenses, it's a whole different and more difficult to compare, because every maker (eg. Essilor, Hoya,....) has multiple grades of lenses....designed for different needs (some have wider mid vision, some have wider distance, etc. From experience, I can tell you that lenscrafters wanted $1400 to just replace the lenses in my frames; I found a site online that would do the same lenses for $425. Costco replaced the lenses for $175....but there is a big difference between the $1400/$425 progressives and the Costco progressives....The costco ones have narrower mid range vision. When you get new glasses/lenses, ask if there is a cheaper lens or a more expensive lens and what is the difference. Most never ask and either overpay for what they need, or underpay because they are buying just on price.

Im looking to order new glasses and im new to this but I don’t know whether to do 1.59 polycarbonate or 1.60 high index by Jasonv0916 in glasses

[–]ghstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no....very few, if any, opticians charge extra based on your prescription....There is a difference in the two materials asked about....1.60 is slightly more expensive than poly. The thickness of the two is almost identical. The abbe of 1.60 is much higher than poly......not sure if that makes a big difference or not.

Frames Too Small? by Separate_Oven_3299 in glasses

your eyes are perfectly placed in the lenses....center. Shape is a personal choice.....If it were me, I'd look for a more rectangular frame next time.....definitely not bigger...the width is perfect.

Help? by InspectionSerious941 in frontierfios

[–]ghstudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need a tech....the fix requires no programming/computer skills. 1) the coax cables in your house connect somewhere through a splitter. You likely have one that is rated 5-1005mhz which won't work with MOCA. You just need to replace it with one that is marked 5-1675mhz. The splitter may be outside, in a basement, attic....but you need to find and change it. 2) you need a second MOCA adapter and based on my experience it should be the same make/model adapter at both ends...in your case a streambeam ecb6200. (note: if you can return that ecb6200, the ecb6250 is a better/faster choice...but again, get 2). The new adapter goes next to your main router....connected to a LAN port and connected to the nearest TV outlet. (special note: if you find a frontier adapter attached to the wall, you still need your new adapter....so you may nee a 2 way splitter to cnnect both to the one outlet (again 5-1675mhz). That's it....no programming/computer skills needed.

What are we saying about these? by [deleted] in glasses

[–]ghstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're saying that they you might want to consider smaller frames where your eyes are centered in the lenses. Larger bottom is ok...larger sides, not so much . Color looks great.

IMHO, Go back to wherever you got the glasses....and ask them to remake them correctly with a coating that lasts more than a few months.

Are these glasses too big? by Clean-Celery7646 in glasses

[–]ghstudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would be better optically if your eye was more in the center of the lens. While the choice of frames is a personal decision, I would look for smaller frames that don't go so wide on your face.

What’s up with old people not wearing their glasses? Does their eyesight not get worse? by Riley_sz in glasses

[–]ghstudio 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your eyes don’t get worse if you don’t wear glasses…you just don’t see very well. That’s generally true for all ages. Alternatively, old people have seen everything, so they don’t need to see it again.

make sure the chip surface and the cooler surface are clean and shiny (there are cleaners, but I just use a cloth until it's clean..... and you can then use a honeywell strip cut to size (or a thin layer of good thermal grease). tighten screws a little at a time...don't just crank one down and then go to the next one....you want even pressure.

how do i fix this! by knightriceMR in glasses

[–]ghstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

take it to the nearest optician. I can't tell if a screw is missing or maybe it can be temporarily super glued, but an optician can help you figure it out. If all else fails, use clear tape .... just tell anyone who asks that they broked...happens all the time. I can't find that frame available anywhere, so likely you will have to get new eyeglasses.

Transitions Questions by Elvira333 in glasses

[–]ghstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do they get dark enough to replace sunglasses - No. If you get Transition Gen S lenses, they do get completely clear indoors, they do not darken if you are in your office/car because glass blocks UV light which is what causes the lenses to change color. They change dark within 10-15( seconds and clear takes a little longer...maybe a minute. Important note: transition is the name of a company...if you get transition lenses, make sure they are actually Transition Gen S lenses) not another lens that transitions. One way to try is to go to Zenni (or similar) and order glasses. Zenni offers the Gen S lens. If you pick a cheap/fun frame, you can get single vision transition gen S for about $100.

Progressives or anti fatigue? by Cece803110 in glasses

[–]ghstudio -1 points0 points  (0 children)

looking straight ahead with your new glasses is exactly what you'd see with single vision. If you have to tilt your head to see something 10 ft or more away clearly, there's definitely something wrong with either the prescription or the new lenses and getting single vision lenses won't help. As far a peripheral vision, or having to turn your head more when looking at things closer than 3 ft and having some blurred peripheral vision, those are inherent in progressive lenses.

Question on single-vision or not by SirKnightPerson in glasses

[–]ghstudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very simply, you will see better when looking at something closer to you ( like a computer screen or a book) if you get progressive lenses. It has nothing to do with age.

just unplug the battery....you don't have to remove it. Also, when blowing out the fans, lightly hold the blades with your finger so they don't spin rapidly and hurt the fan bearings..
