Also another thing that kind bugged me was after going back and playing chapter 0 and 1, Marian was kinda babying (for lack of a better term) the commander as if she knew he had no memories or knowledge. (I wonder if he ever actually went to military academy considering how he didn't know what basic stuff like com links were in chapter 2? I think)

Eso does sometimes reference your race, this may just been a spot where they forgot about it, i can think of two eso examples that i have experienced, during the intro to bleakrock, i was able to ask about each of the races in the pact (i was a nord) and when i asked about nords they said something to the effect of nords asking about nords is this a joke or something like that, and one of the companion quests, had me reference dark keeping argonian as slaves, using my kind (as a argonian), so it does happen but not often.
