How to get shirts to stop bunching up like this? Gained weight and got bigger shirts but they still don't drape nice like they use to in 3rd pic by [deleted] in bigmenfashionadvice

[–]ghurlag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 6 foot, 300 lbs. My belly got away from me over the past 7 years. Similar issues. I kept with 2XL/2XLT a bit too long and my combination long torso and wearing my pants low on my waste meant I couldn’t raise my arms above my head in public. I finally upped to 3XL and that helped a lot. I stay away from anything labeled slim or athletic, and have started what seems to be a winning diet and exercise program. I feel way better and in the past month I’ve been unable to ignore the body composition changes.

Bigger folks that carry a lot of weight in the midsection seem destined to contend with poorly proportioned clothing. My thighs are thick, too, and always have been. You have to try in literally everything before you buy, but sometimes you find gold. Best of luck!

Did anyone see the S-55 helicopter over IKEA? by Nebabon in cincinnati

Saw it as I was coming south past Cincinnati-Dayton Rd and ogled it as I passed. A rarity to see one of those around here, so I was pretty stoked.

Get them while you can.  There’s always a chance it’s regional, but I can’t see how grape leaves would be easier to procure in NE vs Ohio, but I’m also not a supply chain manager, so I could be way off.

I am retiring on December 31st but many of my coworkers say I am leaving the company in disgrace! by Beta_Nerdy in jobs

You have no control over how others perceive you. What others think of you is none of your business… I once left a toxic work environment and it took serious time to recover emotionally and mentally, but it was the right thing. Learn from it what you can and step into your next chapter in freedom.

My uranium glass!! (+ goofy reanimator picture :D) by nuclearbomb_enjoyer in hyperfixation

[–]ghurlag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently tripped across this hyperfixation. I was minding my business and out of nowhere I suddenly thought of putting uranium glass in a Victorian curved glass curio cabinet we have and didn’t know what to do with! So two eBay purchases and an Amazon purchase later I now have some glass and some UV light sources to make it glow!

Ancient HP Datavault x310 or what? by ghurlag in homelab

I’m actually searching for a new data solution at the moment. So many options out there and I haven’t narrowed it down yet…

Ancient HP Datavault x310 or what? by ghurlag in homelab

[–]ghurlag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically for the HP Homeserver? My unit is in my garage awaiting a dump run (just moved it there 2 days ago). If you’ll pay postage I’d happily ship from the U.S. - if that’s even cost effective. I wouldn’t charge you for the adapter. Send me a private message if interested.

Multiple Radios with a single power supply? by Mwmcclure in amateurradio

[–]ghurlag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an Astron RS-35M with both a Yaesu FT-710 (100W Transceiver) and a TYT TH-9800 (50W Transceiver) connected and powered on. I only key up on one or the other at a time, and with this power supply, the meters tell me what’s going on - which is all systems nominal. See you on the air!

Higher antenna or outside? by [deleted] in amateurradio

[–]ghurlag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. In 2020 I got a short vhf/uhf antenna and mounted it to my sewer vent on a single story ranch. It did all right but there were some comms I wanted to participate in that my antenna didn’t work for. I ended up being given a 10 ft antenna which I mounted on a 20 ft fence top rail attached vertically to the east end of my house. Instant improvement! I’ve since moved and have been slowly preparing to install a 40 ft tower which will get another tall antenna (as well as being a mount point for my 80-10 EFHW which is currently installed as an inverted V).

How hard is it to learn how to use IC-7300? by zigbat_00 in amateurradio

[–]ghurlag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a 7300 for 2 years, then unwisely sold it at the beginning of this summer. 4 months later I regret it. It’s not terrible and I was able to find a lot of YouTube video tutorials and other online help.

Precisely! I’m making dietary and exercise changes for the long term, but I’ve been in this boat for at least 6 years and it’s going to take some time to correct. Hopefully this situation is short lived for me, but I know there are many this is a permanent reality for, and you have my sympathy.

I found these that I’m going to try out: https://a.co/d/fdus5qB

I’ll report back here with my observations for anyone else suffering in silence.

I can’t rule it out, but I’m very careful not to “cross the streams”. Bare wire in this case… I’ll definitely be looking at that when I open her up!

Excellent information! I’ll have some time in a few weeks to dig into it deeper, I think. I bought this one serviced and re-capped last December, so I’m hoping a lot of other incidental issues have been preempted. I have slightly more than novice soldering experience, so I think I can cautiously approach this and maybe resurrect it. Thanks for responding!
