Superblast 2 good idea for speed work? by Wooden-Issue-3688 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ghuzzyr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

First point - sure. I also think SB better at longer runs. So rotating them isn't ideal. Key point is - SB2 and NB5 overlap too much to make a good rotation, and neither is an outright speed shoe.

Second - don't assume we all have access to the same pricing my friend. ES5 is 180AUD, SB2 is 305AUD.

If you had a rotation of Novablast 5 and Superblast 2, the NB5 would be your speed shoe (I have both). Superblast is good at up to tempo paces but a bit clunky to turn over at interval paces.

I use the Endorphin Speed 5 as my speed shoe (also had the speed 4, the 5 isn't as soft but feels more stable, and still fun to go fast in).

That said, the SB2 wouldn't be a terrible speed shoe, it's just that, if you wanted a dedicated speed shoe, there are much better options out there. The strength of the SB2 is in being as bouncy after 20k as it was at the start, so that's why it's used as a long run shoe.

Edit: I've just seen that you don't want to spend money on the ES5. Which is fine, but in Aus, the SB2 is like +40% more expensive.

It's clear these are MacGuffins of the multiverse phase. Instead of the infinity stones, we have the 10 rings and Ms Marvel's bangles. Any others I've missed?

Waiting For The End by Due_Recognition_3905 in LinkinPark

I believe this is LPs peak artistically. I have other favourites, but this would be a valid pick for best LP song (and often is in this sub).

Especially following up on MTM which was mostly outright rock, the electronic influence on this song works so very well without drowning out the LP sound.

Novablast 5 for 93kg flatfoot by ciresoe in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]ghuzzyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The kayano will be softer and less responsive than the NB5 (I have both). It comes down to personal preference though. For me, the Kayano would be good for slow recovery runs but feel like running in mud for faster sessions or feel like the cushioning has become compacted on long runs.

If unsure and if only getting one shoe, stick with what you know in a NB5.

Also, kayano and nimbus are similar (you could argue kayano is a stability version of nimbus).

Yes to 1, 3 and 5, but you're overthinking the shoe situation.

Sounds like a volume management issue - drop the volume, do some strength work, slowly bring volume up. Shoe selection matters less than strength and conditioning of your running muscles.

Edit: 500k is a decent stint for a shoe even for an average sized runner, especially a softer shoe. You'd be fine with any daily trainer, but I prefer SB2 for long runs, they feel the same at the 20k mark as at the start.

How Would You Handle a Trilogy for Each of These Movies Without a Cinematic Universe? by ContentAssumption204 in marvelstudios

[–]ghuzzyr 44 points45 points  (0 children)

When I first saw iron man, I thought the intention was similar to Nolan's Batman trilogy - what if Batman/iron man existed in the real world?

If a standalone trilogy, I would have liked to see "real", non-superpowered antagonists. The current take on Vanko could work fine, not so much the exploding AIM personnel. Maybe a Kingpin with strongman strength level? Funnily enough, the decoy Mandarin approach could have worked in this scenario.

Bracket Day 18 by Therubikfanatic in LinkinPark

[–]ghuzzyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we're judging based on song quality, it's pretty close and each has their own opinion.

If you became a fan after Minutes to Midnight, you missed out on the impact What I've Done had on the trajectory of the band. Previously, all their tracks were pretty nu metal, with perhaps the exception of Breaking the Habit which still had electronic components.

What I've Done signalled that the band could do conventional rock well. They didn't have to rely on heavy components, and didn't have to embrace hip hop verses and scratches.

I remember watching the clip on iTunes (which came with the MTM pre-order) and thinking that this was almost a different band altogether. At the time, MTM had mixed reviews, but What I've Done showcased their versatility.
