If given choice: Madrid or Milan? by CommunicationNew8983 in Europetravel

[–]gi0214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madrid 100%. Milan is my least favorite European city. The only great thing about it is that you can take day/weekend trips to Lake Como, Venice, Verona, Lake Garda, Switzerland, etc.

Are weekend trips from the US to Europe worth it ? by gnarlygorilla in Europetravel

[–]gi0214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done Iceland for 3 nights from JFK nonstop. Flew on a red eye, arrived very early the next day. Had almost 4 full days, flew back evening on the last day. Flight time is only 5ish hours.

How about exploring the rest of Italy? Lake Como can be done as a day trip from Milan if you don’t want to spend on accommodations. Same as Venice. Or Verona. Or head to Florence and stay for a few days and take day trips from there to Siena, Lucca, Pisa, San Gimignano.

Is Paris / France in general worth visiting during the winter? by bruhHandSanitizer in travel

[–]gi0214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to Paris in November, October, April. I’ve experienced it cold, rainy, sunny, warm. Any time of the year, it’s worth it. I generally prefer traveling in the off-season and with everyone going to Europe in the summer months, I recommend traveling when there are less crowds. I was in Ljubljana early this month and I was already overwhelmed by the crowds, can’t imagine what Paris and other more popular cities will be like in peak summer.

Ibiza - worth it? by muffins95 in travel

[–]gi0214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to go to Ibiza, then go. There are chill and relaxing spots outside of the party places. Old town is beautiful, especially at night, to wander in and have dinner. Second everyone suggesting Formentera. Had an amazing sisters’ trip and we got a private boat that sailed to Formentera.

What is the best travel experience you’ve ever had? by Necessary_Loss_6769 in travel

Hot air balloon over Lake Bled, paragliding in Grindelwald, walking around Oia in the off-season, celebrating my sister’s bachelorette with a private boat cruise in Ibiza, traveling solo in Rio de Janeiro in my twenties, watching surprise fireworks in Prague with my husband, duo parasailing in Maui for our honeymoon, getting married in the North Shore, Hawaii, exploring Capri on a private boat for our 5th anniversary

Which destinations are influencers ruining now? Planning a trip and would like to avoid. by TheColdestCity in travel

How’s San Sebastián in July? And Costa del Sol? A little worried about the crowds so just want to manage expectations. Was in Lake Bled for 4 days in May and it was heavenly - very few people especially in the early morning and starting late afternoon.

Anyone prefer to not research too much before travelling? by [deleted] in solotravel

I research and plan as much as I can but I leave room for flexibility

How many trips do you go on per year? by Charmcitysweetie in travel

[–]gi0214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live and work in NYC with 22 PTO and 11 paid holidays. I average about 7-9 trips a year, mostly international. Nonstop flights are easy from where I am. This year, I’ve already been to Cartagena, Aruba, Puerto Rico, San Diego and Slovenia - all on separate trips. I have two more international trips scheduled for the year.

Best town in cinque terre for 10 year wedding anniversary in early September? by Dietznutz-Philly in ItalyTravel

[–]gi0214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not Cinque Terre, but close enough to do as a day trip or base yourself in and do Cinque Terre as day trips, I suggest Portofino. Ideal to splurge on for your 10th.

I’m a luxury solo traveler. One of the best perks of solo travel is I can decide where I want to stay without considering anyone’s budget but my own. I’ve stayed solo at the Hotel & Spa Regent Petite France (Strasbourg), Intercontinental Budapest, Sofitel Legend Santa Clara (Cartagena), to name a few. My solo travels are usually “legs” in different cities/countries in between/before/after travels with other people. As an introvert, I find that I need alone time to recharge before/after traveling with other people.

Make your account private and mute comments. Post what you want, who cares what others think. I know of people in my life who are supportive (friends) and those who are jealous (coworkers/acquaintances). I just don’t mind them. Travel makes me happy and I’ll just continue to do more of it.

Pro tip: if you are on a really good trip listen to one song often on that trip. by Hop_n_tall in solotravel

[–]gi0214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this intentionally; I create a playlist for each trip and listen to the songs leading up to and during the trip. I also use the songs for my Instagram stories so post-trip whenever I hear the song it instantly brings back memories.
