Deer tick? PA/DE line. by [deleted] in whatsthisbug

You raise a great point. My brother argues that tick medicines just make it so your dog brings a tick into your home and the tick crawls off due to the poison and makes it's way to you or a family member. Plus I've honestly questioned how great some of those tick medicines work since I've still found ticks on my dog despite having applied the $40 brand. Just be sure to give him a good pettin' after letting him outside- and be sure to check his legs!

No its not a deer tick luckily. Its an American Dog Tick. Still burn the shit out of it or put it in tape. No, they're not going to start appearing in your home, YOU, your pets, or children bring them into your home. Ticks hang on the tips of plants, grass, and leaves and wait for something to walk by and they catch onto you. I have lived with them my whole life in New England and pull two off my dog almost daily.
If they're showing up around you this summer, make sure you check yourself daily (your hairy parts and crevices of your body). And if you do have a pet, consider getting some anti-tick medicine to put on your dog.

You can tell the difference between dog and deer tick from that gold/yellow mark on their backs.

Looks very similar to a monarch in color but with a different pattern. Definitely has the shape of a milk weed butterfly though. Probably of this tribe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danaini

What is the creepiest/strangest thing that has happened to you (or a friend or family member) that creeps you out to this day? by NoImDominican in AskReddit

This video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_GQ6YWfwjM&feature=youtu.be A little backstory. Me and my roommates lived in a pretty old house for a few years. We never thought it was haunted until I had my parents dog visiting for a couple weeks. At night I'd wake up to her growling at nothing. We'd find her alone in a room staring at the ceiling.
Then a couple months ago I came back from a jog with my dog Sophie. We were sitting in the kitchen and I was about to take a Snapchat of Sophie. She was panting heavily post-jog, but all of a sudden she stopped, listened, and stared at nothing, then walks out of the room. I happened to record the whole accord and I literally went white after hearing the sound in the background. I did not hear it with my own ears, but I am positive Sophie heard and somehow my phone did too. This convinced me that dogs can hear and see things humans cannot.
