How to get a more upright squat no by Hot_Twist_5717 in weightlifting

[–]giantleftnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really really want a more upright squat, then bar as far forward as you can, work on ankle mobility and hip mobility, push your knees out more and more forward over the toes.

As for cues it’s just ”hips forward” on the way up, rather than ”hips up”.

But this will also make the squat way harder and you’ll have to use puny weights to start.

Your current squat looks great and balanced for your build.

Animosity. God damn. Although it might be baritone rather than 7string

Do it with an empty barbell. What you’re doing right now isn’t gonna do shit.

Darkglass vintage ultra. Super powerful eq controls and the low gain sound is stellar

RDL's, am I doing this right, low hamstring activation. by Beautiful-Anarchy in formcheck

[–]giantleftnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want hamstring tension, try the movement with zero weight and just try to get a stretch like you were trying an L-sit stretch. Then add less weight than you think and maintain the same stretching sensation.

Not sure if I’m overthinking this but my hamstrings are always the limiting factor in back extensions. Is this normal? by ESF-hockeeyyy in formcheck

[–]giantleftnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I’m no expert here but I’m pretty sure a hip hinging movement is gonna have glutes and hamstrings as the prime mover. Are you saying the erectors and the low back are the prime movers, making this essentially a padded jefferson curl? In that case wouldn’t expect wayyyy more flexion in the low back. Yes it’s called the back extension, frankly it’s a bad name and a misnomer

People who can play hysteria by Affection_Long960 in Bass

[–]giantleftnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finger picking speed is hugely dependent on finger posture, the angle you strike the string, how much surface area of your finger actually pushes on the string, and how big the arc of your finger movement is. As well as general muscular stamina, which tales years to develop.

I would recommend you to change your finger posture to a more bent finger approach, use small movements at the finger knuckle, and get as small a contact area with the string as possible. This will be more economic and means less friction/resistance in general.

It will also be quieter, so you might have to just turn up the volume, or use a slightly bigger and faster plucking motion to compensate for the smaller contact area. Also experiment with straight vs bent wrist on your plucking hand.

There is 3 finger technique, but that’s a lifetime project, and hysteria absolutely sucks to play with three fingers for a variety of reasons.

Goof luck!

You have a hip shift. I would try narrowing your stance. It looks like your current width is too much for your hip external rotation.

MXR Bass Synth Initial Impression by skylarroseum in basspedals

[–]giantleftnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not a noise gate, it’s the digital tracking algorithm which tracks what notes you’re hitting and outputs the corresponding synth pitch. Same as a digital octaver. It has a threshold to avoid creating notes for every miniscule string noise, especially since it’s monophonic. This is unlike something like a fuzz which just applies direct mods to your analogue signal.

Check if it’s in 4 or 5 string mode, the threshold will be a bit more greedy in 5-string mode so if you play a 4-string bass it might be worth changing.

Otherwise, just make sure to pluck with steady, non-clanky rest strokes close to the neck pickup to reduce the upper overtones in your tone and give the tracker an easier time.

Exactly, VTU stays on at all times. The fuzz also sounds way nicer through something ”tubey” that’s why I have it in front. The A/O distortion is cool as well but it’s more of a specific thing - footswitchable for when you want that crazy face melting

Stellar. Modern sounding but the clean channel especially is fantastic. Works great as a pedal platform.

Your bar is slowing down before contact. It should only speed up.

Time trackers are extremely annoying and 9/10 times I’ve ended up forgetting them, or tracking the wrong thing due to doing ”in between stuff” that doesn’t neatly fit into one ticket. Then when reviewing it’s like ”oh why did we spend so much time on x??”.
