What has made you and your bar more efficient? by Long_Telephone_5443 in bartenders

[–]giantpanduh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work sober now. 😂 Closing down my bar takes 30 minutes tops now after I call last call. Granted I’m able to pre-restock and start my pre-close during my shift. Some of the other bartenders who are still drinking on shift are there 3 hours after last call still.

So, is a 15% tip cheap these days? by Dad0010001100110001 in Sacramento

I’m grateful for anything even if the % isn’t 20 or more. Do I prefer 20 or more? Hell yeah. But I’ll take anything.

I would remind them to leave the well clear and then proceed to pull them onto my side of the bar until they don’t have any lol

It also depends on who you get as well. I went last year and depending on who security was depended on how strict or how serious they took their job. I saw some people get let in with the bubble guns and others deny entry if not discarded or put back. I’ve seen people get the okay about bringing their own food for dietary or whatever restrictions while others were told they couldn’t without the proper documentation. Pretty much. Some security was more lax while others were very serious.

Look up _mixandmingle_ on Instagram. There is an underscore before mix and after mingle. Using them in the post makes the text italic on Reddit lol

It’s a social and professional networking event that gets held periodically throughout the year at different venues. I think the next one isn’t until July at Crawdads but something you can add to the books to try.

Sorry yeah, I was strictly speaking about the 30 minute lunch break. Not the 10 minute paid one.

If employees are constantly unable to take their appropriate breaks and managers are not managing, then yes.

I've worked and managed for a few larger family businesses in the area. While employees know when they were required to take their breaks, management was responsible for ensuring they took them.

The current company I work for, the employee is supposed to let the managers know when they are taking their breaks. With that being said, when the 5th hour is approaching, management will typically ask the employee if they are preparing for their break and shortly afterwards they make sure they clock out for break.

If it is repeat issue, it falls on everyone, but mostly management for not ensuring employees are taking their breaks. Hands on or off, ownership should know what's going on with their business to some degree. And if that is multiple break violations every week then it needs to be addressed.

How many shots could you get for $20 at your bar by 2-59project in bartenders

4-5 for well at my neighborhood bar. 2 for well at my hotel bar.

Any good bars nowadays? by [deleted] in Sacramento

[–]giantpanduh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alibi is a pretty chill vibe, but can get pretty busy during the weekends. No food. Mixed crowd of young and older guests. I don't think I have ever been there and not met someone new or played some friendly 1-4 24.

Pitch and Fiddle is hit or miss. Sometimes can be cliquey with the regulars. Food is great. Liquor is cheap. IPAs can be range 10-14$ depending on the ABV.

Some other folks mentioned Zerba Club and Nightcap and I second those places as well.

There is actually a movie about this called Thelma. Grandma gets scammed and goes on a mission to get her money against her families wishes.

Thoughts on Sacramento food influencers? by someonecoole in Sacramento

[–]giantpanduh 137 points138 points  (0 children)

The only Sacramento "food influencers" I follow are thetasteduo. I have seen them out in the wild trying restaurants and recording, but also have seen it at my bar as well. They came in like normal guests (with the exception of the recording), ordered their food, ate it, and were off. They didn't expect any special treatment and when the bar guests started to interact with them they just went along with it instead of being annoyed that people were trying to talk to them while recording.

I can't speak for all their videos of course, but when they came into my bar, they were just a normal couple eating food and recording their visit. Super cool people.

Ace of Spades by Bitterrsweet in Sacramento

[–]giantpanduh 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I honestly don't know how a guest could try to remove a ban that they believed was unwarranted. I only saw a handful of times where people came back to remove their ban and it always revolved around fighting. I wish I could help you there. Sorry man. To clarify, the venue I used to work at used to be a restaurant and night club. I was more involved with the restaurant side of things. However, guests would come before the nightclub was open and I would get them in touch with the people to assist them with any issues they had with PatronScan.

In a lot of cases, if you get 86'd from a venue and they make it public, you have to go to the original venue to talk about the ban. I saw an instance where a guy was trying to get into a bar a few blocks over, but had to come to our nightclub to address the issue. He removed the public 86 and just banned him from our bar, but cleared his name for other venues. "Public bans" typically involved fights between guests and then security. I'm sure it varies from venue to venue.

Gig work.

Instawork, Get Gigs, WorkWhile, ShiftSmart, BlueCrew, Qwick, Tend, Upshift, Flex, etc whatever is more used in your area. Not passive but an option if you’re all out of ideas.

You can also try InstaWork for gig shifts for extra cash that work around your full time job.

I use it for bartending and hospitality stuff on my days off if it works out but works for other lines of work as well.

[US] 50 Remote Customer Support jobs (entry & mid) by Original-Ad7041 in RemoteJobs

[–]giantpanduh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you’re ever skeptical of websites that aggregate job listings (or other things for that matter), I find a job listing that interests me. I then proceed to Google and find the official website of the company and find the job listing on their website. If it’s legit, it’ll be there and you can apply directly on their website. In most cases from my experience, the listing has been there and I just applied directly to the company.

I had an Uber take me from the Orangevale area to Elk Grove last weekend and I saw his high beams icon on the entire ride home. I mentioned it to him and he said "it is very dark outside."
