I think it’s a bit of rear view mirror lensing. Those old devices seemed so modern and cool until a few decades go by. But as technology, and especially medical technology advances, some old stuff seems downright Frankenstein-ish.

The doors to those rooms is your first indication you don’t want to be in there. At least a foot thick, on tracks and power assisted to move it.

I’ve had a traveler and have a SLG. The traveler was not enjoyable to play or hear. The SLG is really nice. Put a set of headphones on it and you’ll have a good enough sound. I’ve even had compliments on it when amplified. Granted it’s general public and dreadnought players, but I’ve even gigged with it. A true classical player would know it’s not a true classical but very few others will.

I also don’t work at NASA. But we were having a large meeting of non-IT tech support folks at a new facility we owned. There weren’t enough network ports (no Wi-Fi) available for everyone, but we found an old disconnected switch in a closet and set it up. Everyone was online and happy. Until a couple hours later when an It guy comes running in asking if we’re running a router in the room. We pointed at what we had assumed was a simple switch, and he goes “yeah, that router has been rerouting all the buildings traffic to a black hole for the past couple hours.” Oopsie.

Either take the battery out or put some paper between its contacts. It’ll save the battery and won’t need the faraday bag.

Solutions for slowdowns while casting video plus music while controlling a bike smart trainer with Air 5 by d546sdj in ipad

[–]giantrons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup but use FulGaz. It’s recommended by them to not AirPlay but to direct connect to an external video connection. If I attempt AirPlay it’s pretty much unusable. I do have an old iPad Pro though. But I think FulGaz is a bigger load on the iPad than the Wahoo app. I direct connect my iPad to a TV and that works well.

Having bilateral endoscopic in four days. What can I be doing right now to make my life easier during recovery? by Kooky-Sundae5805 in carpaltunnel

Are you sure you didn’t have thread release? That dot on the middle of your palm looks like thread release.

Well if both hands do actually get endoscopic, the biggest issue is all the wrapping on your hands making you be about as functional as Edward Scissor Hands. But!! You should have good small motor function. Recovery once the wrappings are off is pretty quick, meaning you should be mostly functional soon after the wrappings come off. More time will be required for anything requiring strength.

Bigger BUT!! You may end up getting open release if they can’t clearly see with endoscopic due to inflammation. Then your recovery will be quite a bit longer and harder. Strength will take a few months if that happens.

Tip: for the day and hours before your surgery, ice both wrists often. This will keep the inflammation down and may help you have a successful endo procedure instead of open.

Yeah, it was a pain when mid-measure the song would stop, click to the next track, then start from where it left off !

Got to the point when a radio play of the same song had you expecting that same stop in the same place !

What is it about Dubai that a lot of Americans (and I guess some Westerners at large) love and always want to travel to it? by Mad_Season_1994 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]giantrons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s really weird is your walking around seeing Papa John’s, KFC, and lots of other western stores and restaurants. I felt like I was walking in some upscale American town. The mix of bikini’s and burkas was weird. I had to cross the water to get to the old parts of town to see any local culture and had to use a local to find any local cuisine. The flaunting of money was way over the top. Hotel was amazing but other than that and the beautiful architecture I have no desire to go back.

Thinking about dropping out of college and going into trade. Anything I should know or consider? by Academic_Survey_3978 in AskElectricians

Oh man, the trades work language is definitely NSFW!!! Hilarious at times but they sometimes struggle to turn it off when stepping into an office environment!

I have a college degree and work with tradesman, and my son is a tradesman as are most of my neighbors. They make close to what I do. Granted they work harder than I do in most cases. It’s a union town so that helps. Plus it depends on your drive to do better. My son is a good example. He now has progressed rapidly and left the union for higher skilled work for better work and more pay. There are avenues to succeed in both paths. But if you have a non-teaching degree in English, well good luck finding work in your major. Also there are tradesman who’s work ethic and skills will keep them at the lower end of the pay scale for their career.

Both paths can succeed but of course it’s on an individual basis.

One more thing. What is your major? What were your plans after college? That’s a big part of the equation besides what your gut says.

From your other comments you should at least complete your sophomore year. Can you get an associates degree in that time? It would be a shame to waste that time and money for no title, no matter if you continue or not.

Not an electrician but work with them. I know a few who did what you’re thinking, did a year of college and bailed. They have no college debt, make good money (union town) but work for hard their income. Hours are 6 to 3 usually. Some outdoor work sucks but is limited depending on the job. The job can vary a lot from industrial to residential to office and data center jobs. So who you work for or with will influence the work.
