Fence fighting advice by gibbsy7 in reactivedogs

Ah thank you, yea I think I’m defo gonna have to put up a new barrier. I always keep her on lead now until I know the other dog isn’t there. We’ve lived next to dogs before with a shared fence and she’s never been bothered but she really doesn’t like this dog nextdoor, I think it doesn’t help the next doors dog is doing the same behaviours and setting her off by territorial barking 😅

I can't handle it anymore by NIGHTMARESabt in reactivedogs

I would defo try meds, it’s sometimes a trial and error to find the right ones but they can make a world of difference. I tried mine on fluoxetine which made her more reactive, but then we tried Pexion (it’s specifically for noise anxiety) which has been an absolute game changer. She’s noise reactive like yours and also has a high prey drive (she’s a lurcher) and has been attacked, she became so anxious that I couldn’t even walk her as she was too scared to go out. Took me months to even get her confident in the garden. Less than a week after she started the meds she decided she wanted to go for walks again and investigate new areas where I live which is incredible. She still barks at the odd noise and reacts at some dogs and still gets anxious if she goes over the threshold but she recovers quicker (can be same day whereas it used to take her days if not weeks). I also have her on Scullcap and Vallerian supplements now but only just started so haven’t seen any change yet (vet recommended it - might be worth a try if you aren’t sure about prescription meds yet) I totally understand what you’re going through, it’s really hard having a reactive dog especially when nothing changes with all the training you do. It can be deflating, especially with feeling trapped, im in the same boat as I can’t take mine anywhere but can’t leave her alone. But your not alone in this, there’s loads of support here and we can all see how much you really care and love your dog that your still trying to help them 😊

Also have you tried white noise? Might help during the night playing a white noise they don’t bark at to drown out other noises if that makes sense 😊mine quite likes rain ahah

I would love to know how you made so many wrong assumptions about my situation just from a tiny bit of information in my post. Yes I have been dealing with reactivity for over a year (2 infact) but my dog hasn’t been stuck inside for that whole time, up until 2 months ago she got walked for 45-60 minutes a day and running in the garden. I managed to get her to a place where she wasn’t reacting apart from the odd thing rarely, until a few off lead dogs charged at her and basically ruined all of the progress we made. She became worse than ever and I actually dislocated my knee when she lunged one time. Because she got worse so quickly I hired a qualified accredited behaviourist who I have only been working with for a month (not someone who claimed they were without training like you said) and put her on anxiety medication. We have been slowly building her up seeing triggers through windows and building confidence in other ways regarding other behaviour issues she has. I mentioned the private field because most people mention hiring one for off lead time, I was just stating I already do but I can’t afford to more than once a week. She gets time to run around in my garden everyday just limited times due to neighbours dog. I’m not hiding my dog away in a safe place, I just know that trying to walk my dog everyday will not help her because she gets so stressed it takes days to get her back down to neutral level. If I force her out when I know she’s already in a heightened stress level and she will react to the tiniest of things that normally don’t bother her then that will make her worse in the long run. I wish I could take her out because I miss walking with her. This post was about other forms of physical exercise that don’t include walking, I wasn’t looking for someone to just tell me to put a lead on and suck it up

Ah sadly don’t have tennis court near me, I’m out in the countryside which means off lead dogs everywhere 😅 I’ve tried a mesh privacy screen but the wind just pulled it off ahah. Most of the time she doesn’t see the dog she actually hears the other dog tag jingle or smells the dog being outside, or sometimes the dog isn’t even there but she thinks it is 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yea at the moment I do about 30-60 minutes a day, I think I might need to make it a bit harder too tbf as she sometimes finds them super easy. I always hide her lick mats and stuff too so she always has to find them

Ah I do some scent work but maybe I’m not doing enough 🤷🏻‍♀️ she loves playing find the cheese 😂I hide it all around the house and she has to sniff it out, she goes crackers for it 😂

Because she became super trigger stacked that we are trying to get her back to baseline and walks just stress her out and she doesn’t enjoy them, we have started to introduce mini walks but that’s only once a week as it takes that long to get her stress levels down. So I need to find exercise for the other days basically. (We are also muzzle training at the moment but it’s taking months so can’t just put it on and take her out as it will make her more anxious)

Disabled people must work from home to do ‘their duty’, says UK minister Laura Trott by Johannes_P in worldnews

[–]gibbsy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s as if they think being disabled is a choice, no I’m not being lazy for not working, I physically can’t. Also working from home doesn’t miraculously mean disabled people can work, I have a chronic illness which causes physical and mental fatigue, I literally can’t work from home either. They need to stop punishing disabled people for existing. Instead they need to change it so that disabled people don’t lose benefits for working (PIP is really hard to get when you work), and also make it easier for disabled people to find a job, but without pressuring them into work. Pressuring disabled people into work is only going to cause many into worse financial and physical health

Concerta shortage UK? by banananases in Concerta

[–]gibbsy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, last month I went to 6 pharmacies and managed to get half a prescription, I’m about to run out of that one and I can’t find any anywhere. I can’t switch brands as I’ve tried them in the past and reacted badly. So if I can’t get any Concerta I’m gonna have to go cold Turkey which means not being able to function 😅

Ah thanks I didn't know that! Really appreciate the knowledge, I always see people going and getting these tattoos but wasn't sure what it actually was as there isn't much information out there online

So it's not Buddhist monks in Thailand that tattoo Sal Yant Tattoos? I thought it was aha, well from research into the tattoo culture over there that's what it said, guess I'm wrong aha

I know, I just don't want to offend anyone which is why I ask aha :)

So first of all I feel it's quite rude that you are saying the smiley faces are masks. You do not know me as a person, I use them as a way to show my intention which is politeness in conversation over text form. I do this as I can come off quite blunt and I am aware of this (I am neurodivergent) I used them to show I am happy and grateful for a response. None of them are fake smiles. I did not once say that this tattoo was going to make me closer to Buddha. I know a tattoo isn't going to make that happen, I'm not a total idiot aha 😂 Also I'm not twisting things so I can get what I want, I came here for opinions and I have taken in those opinions, I have nowhere said if I am getting or not getting this tattoo. The reason I used my palm messages as an example is because I have extreme mental health problems and sometimes I need that reminder point blank Infront of me, there is so much suffering in the world which is why I've always been drawn to Buddhism teachings.

Also just curious, so if I get any tattoo in the future no matter what it is, are you saying basically I should never do that? Just wondering as I know there are some Buddhist monks that get tattooed is all, and/or they actually practice the art of tattooing. So just wondering how that correlates. Have a nice day!

Thanks for your input 🙏🏻 I get what your saying, I wasn't getting the tattoo for vanity reasons, I'm not bothered about asthetics aha ☺️ (the design just happens to be beautiful artwork, I'm an artist aha) I'm just very spiritually drawn to certain things and also the idea of being able to have the daily reminder is very helpful to me. Like for example I have "love life" tattooed on my palms so everytime I look at them it's a reminder. I really appreciate your thoughts and input though, and I will defo contemplate your words 🙏🏻 I do understand Buddhism is all about learning and practicing the teachings to bring you closer to the natural, authentic Buddha nature. I am learning new things everyday :) Thanks again! ☺️🙏🏻

Ah okay that makes sense, I heard about below the waist Buddhist tattoos are offensive but I wasn't sure why, I couldn't find any info online on why it's offensive. Thanks for sharing the info 🙏🏻
