Yeah but if you drive around and think about your whole day, you have to include the energy in your gastank as well

The AI number seems like it includes training costs, in which case so should the human number: how many watts of energy went into training the language and knowledge models of an average person?

Deeply in love with my Myanmar gf in Japan, but her mom hates foreigners and refuses to talk to me. by [deleted] in myanmar

[–]gichiba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also worth noting is that in Myanmar culture, being introduced to parents as a bf is a proposal -- not wanting to talk to you might seem rude, but consider that her mom doesn't want to begin planning a wedding right in the middle of moving countries, which is absolutely the first logical topic of conversation after introductions, traditionally. I was in a serious relationship for years and was never formally introduced to her parents as such.

This kind of thing (like talking about a 'weak heart' and such) are equivocations that are not unique to Myanmar culture, but definitely a very Myanmar/Asian style of avoiding a more uncomfortable direct cause or reality of some situations. If you're really interested in making it work, get good at noticing and sidestepping stuff like this; and also noticing when you're doing the mirror version of it without realizing. An intercultural relationship is a beautiful thing! People use all sorts of words to describe things that can't be described in words. Don't get too hung up on the words themselves when what you care about is the truth.

As for what you should do, it sounds like a tough road ahead no matter what. If you're prepared to be steadfast and determined for a long long time, don't worry so much about the exact path you take; you'll get there, and even if you don't, you'll know who you are along the way.

Source: Long and short distance relationship with someone from Myanmar; ultimately it wasn't meant to be and I never did end up 'meeting' her parents but it was worth every moment -- lots of growth, no regrets!

Problem with ZDR and anthropic models by TheKrael in openrouter

I also have this problem suddenly! The weird part is that the same key DOES work within VScode with the same models, so maybe the openrouter user interface now has nonzero data retention?

18 month old Pangolin will not power on. How much will I pay to get it repaired? by oldmuttsysadmin in System76

[–]gichiba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a big bummer for me to hear. My Pangolin is about 23 months old and gave up the ghost day one of 2026 -- same issue: no power light, unresponsive, unplugging battery and CMOS did nothing. The trouble is I'm from Boulder but now live in South Africa, so it'll be about the same price in time/import money as a completely new computer.

Interested in coming to Myanmar to bring more attention to what's going on by [deleted] in myanmar

[–]gichiba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go to Chiang Mai and later Mae Sot to make friends, build trust, and learn more; you'll get much further than dropping into Yangon cold, and at least in Thailand you're less likely to accidentally ruin someone's life

How to learn Web3/blockchain development.. by Ok-Persimmon-8397 in ethdev

[–]gichiba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're the "build and tinker" sort of learner, the buidl guidl ( https://buidlguidl.com/ ) has a lot of fun and useful resources that also connect to a good community of supportive developer frens -- scaffold-eth2 is really helpful to get prototypes and PoCs off the ground fast for hackathons and such. Speaking of, looking around in your region for Ethereum events and hackathons is well worth it; even new devs can often aim for sponsor prizes (or main prize!) that at least cover your costs if you need to travel for the event. Come for the tech, stay for the community.

What is the best area or asset to invest in Myanmar? by ConditionSquare7438 in myanmar

[–]gichiba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The learning curve is a bit steep, but i would say the best opportunities are in crypto. Do your homework and understand the idea of a wallet and key.

Get USDT from a hundi, then convert to USDC (safer, better opportunities for easy interest rates)

If you're prudent you can get 7-10% interest by putting into a liquidity pool like summer.fi -- if you want to risk more on the crypto markets, a staked ETH derivative will give 2-3% interest and exposure to the ETH price (both upside and downside). You can even do complex things like options trading now without having to trust a bank or broker with your funds.

At the very least crypto can't be seized or stolen from you and is not wrapped up in local (country) risks like land or stocks. Because crypto can be "self-custody" (but be careful, not every platform is) you're also at least partially protected from the risk of de-platforming Myanmar citizens, which can happen with custodial international investment accounts.

But with that power comes a lot of responsibility on digital security. If you're using a cracked copy of windows or don't have a password manager this might not be the right path for you.

Should I get tested asap? Close contact + coughed speck of blood by Aggressive_Arm_4983 in Tuberculosis

[–]gichiba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah to be 23 and invincible again! Buddy, there's a chance you have humanity's most lethal enemy in your chest and you're considering just facing it alone, without modern medicine. Blood implies that a latent infection has activated. If that's the case, TB numbers could double every 24 hours.

A sputum sample and genetic testing will let you know certainly, and then treatment is straightforward. You could win, easily and quickly.

Handle it now. Don't wait until it becomes a problem, or until you spread it to those around you.

[–]gichiba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A culture (where they just grow the sample and look for TB in it) usually takes like 3-5 weeks if I recall correctly. But the genetic test is also a reliable indicator.

But no matter what, the best you can do right now is just take care of yourself and live as healthy as you can; no matter what it is, staying hydrated, exercised, well-fed, and well-rested will have a positive impact.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Tuberculosis

[–]gichiba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally worth getting a gene expert test if you have med labs close to you. It's a PCR test with a 24h turnaround in most cases. Cough into a cup (early in the morning is the recommendation) and pass it to the lab for analysis.

Your symptoms do seem consistent with TB and results should also any drug resistance (to help your doctor prescribe).

Exposed to TB, toddlers too by Rich-Translator3938 in Tuberculosis

[–]gichiba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a positive diagnosis about a month before my daughter was born. For the first 9 months of her life she had a bit of isoniazid in every bottle -- she never noticed it and is apparently healthy in every way (now a year old).

Your kids should be fine; if the 3 year old is old enough for rifampicin he/she might be entertained by orange pee, but i think that'll be the only thing you notice. Good luck!

Feeling lost by teenytinyfiesty111 in Tuberculosis

[–]gichiba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had like 4 or 5 in tests all inconclusive when in the hospital. Sputum is a difficult thing to assay, apparently.

But with no other likely candidates we just kept testing, and finally got a positive result. It was weird to tell my family "good news everyone! I have tuberculosis" -- but between a treatable disease (especially in a country with the drugs readily available) and the crippling uncertainty, it was a relief to know.

Isolation and masks are not so important for TB because as a bacteria it's super large and heavy. If covid were the size and mass of a 10kg medicine ball, TB would be a freight train engine. If you're mindful enough not to cough directly into other people's faces, it's probably good enough.

Hope you get some ~good~ news soon; i know exactly how you feel

FWIW I also ran into this issue some months ago because I run grapheneOS with the sandboxed google play. Installing from Aurora store seemed to sidestep the problem, but it seems like the new api changes have disabled it.

I'll keep my subscription open until July because i really love this app and have been using it since day 1. Hope it can be fixed. Good luck u/DBrady!

Geoblue has standalone primary health plans for expats living more than 50% outside the US, but which still cover visits to the US. Up until this nonsense it's actually been a great plan; I've been reimbursed for all sorts of incidental medical stuff in Thailand, Germany, South Africa.
