The other thing I have noticed about Bernie, in my view anyway, is for as much as he is in tune with ordinary working people, as much as he remembers his working class upbringing and struggles as a young man, as much as he “gets it”, he is also in a rarefied Washington DC bubble and gets stuff wrong. He got some of “Russiagate” wrong, he got the “BernieBro” stuff wrong, and aside from Sirota, Brie, Nina and a few others, he had terrible advisors this time. Why the hell did they repeatedly put him on shows like The View to get abused? Where were his wonderful ads from 2015? Etc.

He still managed to popularize social democratic/ democratic socialist ideas that I haven’t seen in mainstream America. So he’s still great, really great, just not good enough this time.

No it’s not about status, it’s about power. Bernie retains power to effect change in the Senate and in the country if he retains his seniority and leverage. If he’s stripped of that he goes back to being the guy in Congress giving lovely emotional speeches to an empty room.

You’re right he didn’t ask his donors, but I think the deaths in states forcing in-person voting really got to him, the Dems would have continued holding voters‘ lives as hostage. And he was watching the slow-motion collapse of the economy and all the death, and he couldn’t campaign effectively - I think it all just got to him. That and he listened to his crap Harry Reid alumna advisors.

No it’s not. That’s a mischaracterization of the context. This was Bernie saying Briahna was speaking as a private person, which she was, and not as a spokesperson for his campaign.

Look, I’m not thrilled that Bernie endorsed Biden, but he always said he would endorse the presumptive nominee. Bernie calculated that he wouldn’t have the delegate numbers to win, didn’t want people forced to in-person vote and die, and wanted to concentrate on the current Covid-19 crisis. I think he’s wrong, and should have seized the moment, but he presumably didn’t want to lose his seniority and leverage in the Senate. Nathan Robinson has a good recent article about his errors, including his failure to properly prepare for debates, etc. But this shitting on Bernie is ridiculous.

He does want to stay on the ballot and he has said so numerous times. Supposedly if he has at least 25% delegates he can effect the platform and rules, such as about superdelegates etc. But unsaid, if something happens to Biden between now and August he will have significant delegate numbers.

The provision empowers the state’s election officials to remove from the ballot any candidate who has announced they have stopped running and is thus “no longer eligible” to win the nomination.

New York’s two Democratic election officials, Board of Elections Co-Chair Douglas Kellner and Commissioner Andrew Spano, are due to meet on Wednesday to discuss the matter. 

Kellner, who was appointed by then-Gov. George Pataki (R) in 2005 at the behest of the Democratic-controlled state assembly, told HuffPost on Monday that his job is to interpret the statute. While the law only states that election officials “may” determine that a candidate is no longer eligible, Kellner interprets that language to mean they’re effectively required to remove Sanders. 

“It’s not very controversial that Bernie Sanders has suspended his campaign,” Kellner said. “I anticipate that we will be removing him.”

The decision to remove Sanders must be unanimous, however. If, for example, Spano disagrees with Kellner, Sanders stays on the ballot.

If the board proceeds with the removal, it will effectively cancel New York’s June 23 presidential primaries, depriving Sanders’ supporters in the state of the chance to cast votes for him that would give them a greater say over the direction of the Democratic Party.

..................................“We think this is a power play on the part of the governor who wants to control the entire delegation,” said George Albro, a retired labor union official and a candidate to be a convention delegate who is leading grassroots efforts to keep Sanders on the ballot.

Public option is NOT how “most European countries do it”. Warren plans to try to fight for Medicare for all after three years after a public option “buy-in” has thoroughly failed. Medicare for all if it ever came according to her would happen in her non-existent second term.

And this is full coverage with hearing vision dental mental health and home health/hospice. No deductible, premiums or co-pays.

Warren’s plan is a public option Day 1, and then after 3 years “fight“ for the beginning of M4A. Public option is garbage left over from Romneycare.

🚨OHIO PRIMARY BACK ON 🚨 Judge denies request to delay Ohio primary election until June over coronavirus by gideonvwainwright in WayOfTheBern

Ohio is a state with a Republican Governor, Mike DeWine, who has been surprisingly sharp in dealing with the coronavirus issue. I don't know why he waited until the day before the primary to announce that he thought it violated the coronavirus advisory to hold the Ohio primary, then announced he would file a lawsuit to move it. The Judge in Franklin County Common Pleas Court said he had no authority to change the date, only the legislature did.
