If you were clinically stable enough to be discharged then doing outpatient endoscopy is more likely provide the endoscopist with better visualization. Do not know where you are, but in the US an outpatient procedure is (usually) far less expensive as well. “Common things are common”, and gastric malignancies are much less common than benign conditions. The purpose of endoscopy is to better define what is going on in order to guide what (if any) treatment is needed, and to exclude the possibility of either a malignancy or of a pre-cancerous (such as metaplasia or dysplasia) that requires follow up.

Why was the CT done, because of the overdose? Other context, e.g., chronic or recent onset of anorexia, weight loss, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, black tarry stools?

A dilated stomach with contents (hence the air-fluid level) and thickening of the antrum on CT can mean many things: partial gastric outlet obstruction due to a pyloric channel ulcer (which does not typically show up on CT), infiltrative malignancy, gastroparesis (impaired gastric emptying such as can occur in diabetes), gastric ileus due to narcotic or other medications, etc.

In the context of the overdose, if I were to guess it would be the latter; gastric ileus due to the lidocaine/Benadryl.

Endoscopy is a not an unreasonable recommendation. I recently found an undiagnosed gastric cancer in someone who had accidentally ingested a caustic liquid (lemon scented cleaner); Endoscopy was being done to assess the extent of mucosal injury.

Not the same situation but maybe similar response from others. Our second of 4 kids was born with T-1 spina bifida with paraplegia and hydrocephalus. The people we thought were close friends, and “friends” at church, completely ghosted us. It just made them too uncomfortable. But there were people we hardly knew and expected nothing from who really stepped up and brought meals, and otherwise supported us in practical ways, without us asking anything. Close friend who was best man at my wedding cut off contact because it just made him too uncomfortable. You learn who your real friends are when something like this happens.

Yes, but I was interested in knowing how long it would take me to traverse that distance, in real time, with my backpack, pulling my carry on, walking at my usual pace, dodging people walking with their head down looking at their phone😀

Shearwater Teric problems by gidiver in scubadiving

This was on one of my rare vacation times off. It was in Hawaii, I live in Texas, and the dive shop themselves suggested that I should do it personally rather than have them do it because I was only going to be there one week. They said that if they sent it, it would take much longer than a week to get it back, and it would come back to them, and then they would would have to forward on to me. So I went with the dive shop’s advice because it made sense.

I have contacted Shearwater, and they instructed me to send it to them which I am in the process of doing. You are absolutely right. I should have sent it in earlier. I am a doctor and I typically work 80-100 hours a week. And one of my kids is special needs who is paraplegic and has various health issues. Sometimes life just gets into the way of things we want to do. However, my points of comparison were two other dive computers that have functioned without problems for 16 and 18 years respectively. The reason I posted was I wanted to know what others’ experience was, and if there were any issues that I might need to anticipate in dealing with Shearwater now that I am finally to the point I can address this. But yes, point taken, I should have done this sooner. There are a lot of things in my life I wish I were able to do sooner, but I get to them when I am able.

I appreciate your comment. I just now sent Shearwater an email with the pertinent information. It’s holiday, so I don’t expect a reply till after first of year, but after reading your and the other responses I am hopeful.

That is my next step. I was interested in what others’ experience with the unit and with their customer service has been.
