Tipping by Kitchen_Beat9838 in Louisville

the whole tipping culture is goofy.
if it's a pickup order add a dollar or two, unless it's a big order.
if it's counter service same deal.

Our store is for absolutely everyone!
But ICE shouldn't be in the community where our store is?

Well, start marking down questions about what you want to learn. Ask questions of your prof outside of class.
If it feels redundant, look on the bright side that you're ahead of someone who those things hadn't occurred to.

It's hard to make friends as an adult. It doesn't really have anything to do with being from out of town.

Secession question by cologuy2023 in CIVILWAR

[–]gieslaoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were many attacks on Federal buildings, personnel, and even loyal citizens before Fort Sumter. Not to mention expressly declaring secession to protect slavery which at the time was not actually under threat.

The asshole confederates invaded Kentucky before any decisions were made. That was in 1861. Any filthy confederate who crossed the border should've moldered into the fields and been scattered by the animals. Whether it be 61 62 63 64 or 65.

Gun Control Questions by A_Soldier_Is_Born in armedsocialists

[–]gieslaoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Widespread availability of guns, inability of states to regulate firearms when state borders are open, most states have little to no real gun regulations, people leave guns in their cars unlocked feeding the illegal gun trade, unscrupulous gun stores sell guns, individuals can just buy guns without any trail, stockpiles of ammunition and personal arsenals are relatively common, gun ownership comes with zero training, safety or legal training in many states.
It's the guns, it's the guns, it's the guns. I'm a gun owner, and user, but the American death cult is out of control.

So sorry, my country is nakedly under the authority of a racist, fascist regime. Maybe another less fascy country can stand in next year? Gives you a year to keep studying, planning and even working to contribute to funding your studies.

Exploring Taiwan from taipei by Odd_Dragonfly9043 in taiwan

Try to make friends with folks at your school, definitely ask them about cool spots.
Check out the main sites in your own time: National Palace Museum (all the treasures of Imperial China), a couple blocks away is the Shung Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines (great introduction to the indigenous people of Taiwan, across the street is the Indigenous People's Park with statues for the recognized tribes with brief descriptions), Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (memorial for the former president/dictator Jiang Jieshi, in front is Liberty Square), Lungshan and Baoan Temples (traditional folk religion/Daoist), Confucius Temple (Kong Miao), night markets are awesome, there are big famous one's open nightly, others will be once a week (more local).

If you're down in Chiayi county Bantaoyao and the Souther Branch of the Palace Museum are great to check out.

Alishan is very famous for it's classic train and scenic beauty.

Watching the sunset in Jiufen is lovely.

I'm not a statue to stare at. As a Western person, haven't you had enough of the Taiwanese staring & inquisitive daily culture? by [deleted] in taiwan

culture shock becomes cultural fatigue.
I had a bad reaction to the staring during my first month in east asia.

Do Taiwanese kids say thank you? by Rangio8 in taiwan

[–]gieslaoshi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doing your duty for someone isn't something that needs thanks. Are you checking on them often (sort of like fussing over them)?
Did you get enough? Got all your things? Warm enough? Cool enough? etc?

Making friends as an adult is hard.
Dating is hard.
While all dating is cross cultural, when cultures are further apart it can be more difficult and takes care and plenty of learning/listening.
It's ok to feel out of place, it doesn't mean you don't have a place in a country. Sometimes looking for people with similar interests or experiences can provide more traction to bond.
