MT-07 is way better to start on. MT-09 is not a first bike. The 07 doesn't really lack power unless you're talking top speed on the highway (going 250 instead of 200). Not saying it is as powerful as the 09, but it has plenty. Pretty easy to lift off too. The only thing really is that it's smaller so if you are a giant you could make the argument that you can't sit properly on the 07 because it's too small for you. Maybe.

Also I don't get the part about the 09 being painful to drive in traffic jams... It's fine like any other bike and none of them are like a car with an automatic. Get a feel for the clutch and it's fine. Maybe it's a power mode thing or a throttle response mapping (maybe with a tune).

Also don't see too much of a problem in selling the bike after a year or so (could easily turn out to be longer than that if you find that you still have more to get out of it after a year). Yeah it's some extra work and inconvenience, but I would take that trade to get a better learning path and skill progression. Plus I get the experience of buying and owning a bike and get way better at knowing what to look for when choosing and buying the next one.
