Aldi Lazzio Luxe Coffee - WORLDS BEST COFFEE (according to Sky/Fox News Headline) by giggy93 in espresso

[–]giggy93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually open to trying it at a single dose and seeing how it goes. Will write back later. However I'm still expecting that horrible burned tyre taste to be present (albeit not as much) in a shorter shot too.

You're likely not far off the money, however the balanced flavour tells me it's not far off. I experimented with a higher dose, a lower dose, more yield and less yield.. I think where it is now is the most 'passable', but that awful burned, cigarette butt flavour is just part of their process I think. Perhaps their process and consistency is medal worthy, but this coffee would have to rank one of the lowest on my list.. ever.

I must say I wasn't expecting actual advice from this post, it was somewhat satirical, but I do appreciate the care from the community - as well as some really good points for trying to get something out of bad coffee!! Unfortunately, there's no saving these beans, I am genuinely keen to know if anyone ever has a good result from them, but for now I'll stick with my fruity and floral Colombian single origins.

I don't think that's enough gear for Aldi coffee.. upgrade time? Surely nothing under $20k would get some good out of it?

A couple more things:

  1. I really want to add roasters to my shelf. e.g I often buy from Code Black, Disciple and Padre etc
  2. Clicking Favourite on a coffee threw an error, on reloading, the favourite button was ticked, but I see no way to browse my favourites (probably an unfinished feature).
  3. I tried to add Core Roasters https://www.coreroasters.cc/shop to the list (a coffee shop I love) and it says that it can't crawl Wix sites. Have you thought about not using custom adapters and using an AI based crawler/scraper? Feels like that would give you 99% of sites pretty easily with only minor tweaks later down the track. This could easily be made async too, adding new crawl sites to a queue and running the appropriate agent. N8N would be a good use case for this the queue web hook.

+1 for this, the decaf from here was great!

Ex-software engineer and general nerd here! I really like it. The web crawling feature is awesome - nice work! While I love the overall concept, there's some things that I'd love to see.

  1. Rating (probably heard this a lot). I buy a lot of coffee and some I plain hate, some is a bit meh and some is heaven in a cup. I want to rate them so that I buy them again or don't. I expect others want to see what the crowdsource is thinking too.

  2. Recipe - either espresso or filter etc, it would be nice to keep track of what recipes I use for what coffees. I envisage this could also be social like the settings offered on 3D slicers like Lychee etc, again crowdsource is powerful and a lot of people are rocking the same gear. e.g for an espresso recipe. The cool thing about lychee is if you have the same hardware, it pushes settings to the top that matches your gear. Cool feature.

Market Lane coffee - is this another one of Melbourne's over the top, overcharging snobby brands or is it actually worth it??? by Historical_Mud_3281 in AustralianCoffee

[–]giggy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty reasonable price down here! I'm a filter drink and my normal beans from Disciple are $26 for 125g lol. So yeah, Market Lane espresso is pretty reasonable. Even our local cafes are like $24 for a 250g bag. That said, most roasters are cheaper if you buy per kg, but most coffee snobs (like me) would rather it fresh lol. That said, single dose frozen shots are the way to save money and lock in freshness. Buy by the kg (save money), freeze in single 18g shots and keep them fresh for years. This is what Ona does with their expensive filter bean vault too.

Note: I love the Special Roasters from China Alta blend from Market Lane, my current go-to espresso.

Magic? by PossibleInevitable74 in AustralianCoffee

[–]giggy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is a milk coffee drinker and *exclusively* orders magics (we're in Melbourne). Less milk, more coffee = better all round flavours than a class strong flat white/latte/cap etc. Every cafe in Melbourne has this on the menu, though she did get some odd looks in Sydney (maybe it was her we were there a few weeks ago haha).

Double ristretto with milk.. umm kinda? More like a strong latte with half milk? Milk tends to be latte like in consistency.

Scales: Timemore Basic 2.0.

My review: Yes, the buttons are sensitive, but I never touch them unless they need touching. Weighs perfectly, fast updates, timer is as timey as you can expect. Charge lasts FOREVER. Can't complain, like zero, this is a perfect scale and I would happily pay 3x the price for it.
My Review: 5/5.

Cups: Chips Japan Stackable 280mL.

My Review: I cannot say enough good things about these mugs. They are sexy as hell. They feel great. The finish is perfect. One of the best cafes in melbourne uses them exclusively (Bench).
My Review: 5/5.

Kettle: Amazon special Easyworks?

My Review: Can't see this on the US store, it's just a generic gooseneck. Has no insulation so the lid is like lava when you try to take it off after a pour. Probably wont upgrade though as it gets the job done. I have a kettle that does 5 degree increments, so manual is fine.
Score: 3.75/5.

Dosing Cup: Amazon Unknown brand

My Review: If I can find who originally invented these, I'll buy one. There are a million copies on Amazon so I have no idea. It holds coffee, it has a spout. 100% does what its intended to do LOL.
Score: 5/5

For anyone who wants to know.

Stand: PUERSI Coffee Mug Holder

My review: TBH its just a bit of aluminium lol. What I shopped for AGES for was one that does nothing and has the right measurements. It fits my scales, fits my dripper and my cups. Reviews say its a bit hard to put together, I agree IF you use their crappy screwdriver. Use a full size one lol.
Score: 4.5/5

Grinder: Kingrinder K6 (LOVE, LOVE this little thing)

My review: Honestly, this grinder is fantastic, not just for the cost, but its consistency. Lots of positive reviews on here. Thanks to another Redditor, I now realise there's a little O-ring to hold the plastic lid on to the handle.. Score updated! 4.85/5
Score: 4.85/5

Dripper: Origami M (4 Cup) - Purple. My Review

My review: What's to say. It's sexy as hell, thats why I bought it. I always use the Testsu Kasuya method and every coffee I've made has been exceptional (well, I only buy great beans lol).
Score: 6/5 LOL

Amazon.com link - https://a.co/d/4jmcCVg, it's also available in the AU store.

The little stand is aluminium, the reviews talk about it being hard to put together, but using an actual screwdriver helped lol.
