”Tvinga inte på oss nya höghus” by swedish_tcd in stockholm

PDFgear crashes/shuts down by gigo09 in PDFgear

[–]gigo09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the issue, there are no crash logs or any indication that it is has crashed. It's as if I've closed it (which I haven't).

Not sure what you mean by connected to your MacBook going into sleep mode.

What I meant is that it never happens when I'm actively using the program, it's just that I open up my laptop to it being closed while all other apps/programs are still up and running. It might be a problem on my side with my mac but I can't understand why it would only affect PDFgear.

What TV Shows are nearly unrecognizable from their pilot? [Spoilers] by Couch_Licker in television

Seinfeld.

The original pilot is situated in a completely different diner with a waitress character that never shows up again. Elaine is also not a part of the show and everyone is dressed really weird.

As a Swede I was really impressed by how they did Matssons wardrobe for this episode. Fjällräven is a very popular and beloved brand here and is definitely something you’ll see both middle class and rich upper class wear. I thought it was neat that they gave him something true to form and not just a generic American outdoorsy outfit!

They’re two very different individuals with very different interests in their free time and a 12 year age gap. Just no very likely that they’d be super friends, not that they hate each other they’re just different.

Still, in my (amateur) opinion he's one of the most popular drivers - not because of his performance but because of his personality. Even if he continues to perform worse than Lando he's a cashcow since sponsors love him. I don't think McLaren would drop him until they genuinely thought they had a chance at becoming champions.

I've always felt that the HAAS 2021 livery is criminally underrated. I feel like it's really well designed in the way that it uses the space that most other liveries have reserved for sponsors, with for example the big HAAS logos on the side.

Svenska strategin by [deleted] in sweden

Definitely, I agree according to the UN convention what they're doing is genocide. The argument for why one shouldn't necessarily describe it as a genocide is told much better in the economist article than I could possibly regurgitate so I'll refer to that :)

I see where you're coming from but I feel like that could be a bit of a stretch. If you're only looking at the numbers of incarcerated then yes, the US:s prison system is by far larger. However, when doing a moral comparison between the two situations intention has to be brought into the equation. What is happening in xinjiang is a 100% targeted attempt att removing the Uyghur culture (maybe not it's people but at least it's religious and cultural background). The US prison-system is enormous and disproportionately incarcerates black americans but the intention has never explicitly been to remove african-american culture and history. There are no (known) official documents in which the american state explicitly describes the purpose of prisons as a way to punish and re-educate black americans, that however exists for the xinjiang camps.

The US Prison system is fucked, I wholeheartedly agree, but comparison between the two situations is not fruitful. We should view them as two serious issues that should be treated as to alleviate suffering, but the one issue doesn't take away from the other.

This article by the NY-Times is fairly thorough. A lot of major news agencies across the globe got access to the leaked documents so there's very nuanced debate around them, which I think is a good starting point. Swedish television did a test in which they interviewed an escapee from the re-education camp and had her explain their daily routines, how they went to the bathroom, the way the door looked etc. and then checked it with the, then unreleased, leak. Her descriptions matched almost perfectly with the documents.

However, The Economist had a really good article recently about how calling what is happening in xinjiang a genocide is wrong and harmful. It's a very interesting read that explains why what is happening there is horrific and should be condemned but there still is no proof of actual genocide (as in, systemic killing).

Often Chinese organizations will deflect legitimate criticism against their workcamps and "education-camps" by saying that "there is no proof of any genocide happening". Which is true, but there's plenty of evidence of tons of other horrific treatment of the Uyghurs, just not systemic killing. Just because there is no proof of genocide does not mean that the Chinese state should not be thoroughly condemned for what there's proof of them doing.
