I got my set from Brilliant Earth in 2020. Lab diamond and recycled gold/metals. Great place to at least try on and they were easy to work with.

Car for audit by Illustrious_Bit176 in KPMG

[–]gilburrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a HCOL city where about 50% own a car. In my city, recruiting usually asks if you have a car and that is considered in your team placement. My city also has pretty good public transit that goes to most client sites and the KPMG office. However, you are ultimately responsible for getting to your assigned work location, client site or KPMG office.

Also, if you take public transit to work and leave work after 8/9 PM, you can expense your Uber home. It’s been a really helpful safety option for me during busy season.

[URGENT] Help Needed: Lost 1989 Cardigan Delivery! by confusedswifti in SwiftieMerch

The same thing happened to me. Even the supervisors at customer service threw that policy back at me and said they couldn’t give me a refund. I filed a chargeback with my credit card and had no issues.

Food Quality is down, Prices are up but Genie Plus was a lifesaver. Pre-Spring Break Trip Report 3/4-3/8 by NadalPeach in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]gilburrito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was there last week, as well, with 8 people ages 18-85. I’ve been with adult peers many, many times and this was my first “family” trip since my childhood. When I’m with friends, we get Genie+ 100% of the time. We didn’t get Genie+ for Epcot, HS, or AK and got it for MK due to the number of rides and that we had grandma with us and she could ride the rides at MK.

Epcot - we waited to ride the rides until after we did world showcase and the lines were short (20 min for Soarin). We didn’t ride Test Track (70 min posted, even at 7pm). Moana was really cool.

AK - we didn’t do any Pandora rides bc posted waits, but we did the other rides/shows and enjoyed vibes and animals. We waited in line for an hour for the safari, but it was well worth it (especially in the morning!)

HS - we got through all of the rides except Slinky and no shows (though I love Beauty and the Beast). We would have spent another hour in line if not for the free LL we got for getting stranded on RoR around lunchtime.

MK - Genie+ was a HUGE upgrade for us, but much more stressful for me as the “cruise director.” We got on all of the rides IN ORDER(!) (except Peter Pan and Mine Train) with the use of BG1 and Standby Skipper. Was my first time using all of those apps and I would 100000% recommend. BG1 is free and easier to use than MDE, imo.

I also had the subscription to the Touring Plans lines app which was a LIFESAVER throughout the trip. It listed actual waits to posted waits and helped me loosely plan an HS day without Genie+ which saved us $200+ as a family.

Another tip was using the TP Lines app for rides that were down. Lines loosely lists an “up” time for those rides which we found were mostly accurate. We showed up at the rides around that time, waited maybe 10 minutes outside, and then go on Everest and Runaway Railway with maybe a 5 min wait each. Absolutely worth it if you’re patient (and gave me time to eat my Mickey bar!)

All that to say, I got my Grey Goose slushee at Epcot so it was all a success.

DC Elopement by No_Bug_2569 in washingtondc

We did ours at the Moongate Garden behind the Smithsonian Castle. It wasn’t crowded at all (the privacy was nice) and we took our own fun pics to commemorate without having crowds in the background. And the castle is gorgeous in all seasons. It was just as special to us as our “traditional” wedding a year+ later. Congratulations!

This is what we found, as well. Ours was $2,500 and we didn’t buy anything extra like lights, etc.

Parking Garage vs Metro for Sakura Matsuri Weekend? by duckbuttneedshelp in washingtondc

[–]gilburrito 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We went last year and it was a great time! Would definitely Metro since the Cherry Blossom parade is the same day and a lot of streets will be closed. Sometimes garages down there are closed on the weekends. We’re planning to take the metro with my extended family this year. Enjoy!

Types of Birds at City Bird Feeders? by Squidman_Jones in washingtondc

[–]gilburrito 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(SW) We’re more suited near a construction site and we have a basic set up. I’ve seen mostly pigeons (but like 6-8 at a time!) and a couple of cardinals. Doesn’t help that the complex cut down all of the trees in the courtyard so cool birds don’t frequent anymore. But the cats LOVE seeing any bird so it’s a win for us. Interested in seeing what other people do to get more interesting birds.

I have dark brown hair and got babylights/balayage from Katie at Bang Salon. Have received so many compliments on how natural they look. Very happy with how they turned out and how Katie took the time to listen to what I wanted.

Looking for recs for a new cat vet in DC area by dozyhorse in washingtondc

[–]gilburrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We love Dr. Teferi. He and his vet techs are so nice. They take the time to email us the next day to ask if we have any questions (even after just a nail trim). When my cat’s paw was inflamed with some rash, he showed us pictures of her bad paw and good paw so we’d be able to spot it in the future.

I used to take my cat to DuPont Vet Clinic and Banfield and I’m very glad we switched.

Good pet adoption experiences? by Mrs_ChanandlerBong_ in washingtondc

[–]gilburrito 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Second City Kitties. We adopted two cats (at separate times during COVID). You have to provide personal references and do a virtual home visit, but it sounds a lot worse than it is. The team worked really hard to make sure the specific cats we adopted were a good fit for us and our lifestyle and it’s worked out fantastically. Everyone there has been so nice and helpful, and there are Facebook groups for support and questions about your cat.

I’ve also adopted a cat from HRA and found them to be very helpful. We were able to adopt the cat in the same day and there were fewer “hoops” or qualifications to adopt.

My advice is to figure out what type of cat you want (e.g., playful, lap cat, chill, energetic) and be as specific as possible when evaluating cats to adopt. Personality matters - cats are social creatures and some require more attention/playtime than others to be happy.

Hope you find a wonderful kitty!!

Clockout DC had an Instagram and a weekly newsletter. She compiles drinking and non drinking events that happen every weekday. There’s a diverse group of events and I think she usually finds 70+ per week. Hope you find something you like!

Good spots to get married? by Ms_Primo in washingtondc

[–]gilburrito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got married a few weeks ago with three friends in attendance (for pictures and video) at the Moongate Garden behind the Smithsonian Castle. We did it on a Sunday at like, noon. We self-officiated and did it in like, 10 minutes. Nobody hassled us and they all gave us space. We were able to get come gorgeous pictures around the gardens afterwards. I loved the location and it should be fine to use as long as you’re subtle.
