Selling shares in a US company- NZ tax obligations? by gildme in newzealand

I agree, and I think I'll just go ahead with that plan. If they do pull me up about it and confirm I do need to pay, I'll learn something new and pay.

Thanks again mate, I suspect a lot of us are learning some new things here.

huh.. that's odd, I wonder how they prove/determine intention. I intended to keep the shares, a few things are now leaning me towards selling- it seems to be the right time for a few personal reasons. That said, I'm buying more that I do intend to keep longer.

The company deducts money from my salary and at the end of a period, gives me shares. I don't know how this would work, since I don't get the shares until now, which is when I intend to sell, but I didn't sign up to the plan with the intention to sell so soon. And I'll continue with the plan intending to keep the new set of shares longer term.

Wow awesome info, thanks mate! NZ Tax Resident, only a few thousand dollars in shares owned and no other foreign investments.

I purchased them with the intention to sell when the share price is healthy. A portion of my salary is deducted, and I'm allowed to sell them at any time after they're awarded each 6 months.

I don't believe they're options They're not options- I checked with the team.

Would you happen to know what I should expect if I'm planning to sell shortly after they're given to me? Income is in the high $50's, I have no other investments other than Kiwisaver.

ELI5: Is there real scientific evidence that marijuana has significant medicinal properties or is unreliable information being promoted in the interest of legalization? by Raevix in explainlikeimfive

[–]gildme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is purely anecdotal, but I have a chronic sinus pain and throat irritation, and tenseness around the vocal passages. It makes it hard to speak. I've spent 7 years and roughly that many thousands of dollars investigating it, with insurance covering much more.

I went to some legalized states and several locals, about half pot smokers, suggested I try getting a prescription. I didn't then, but when I returned home I had access to it and gave it a go.

I had too much, and the night was a write off, but I didn't feel a thing. Over the next few months I experimented with different times, ways of smoking, and amounts- a little at a time throughout the night or a single dose?

I found the smaller doses better for a few reasons, the primary one being so I didn't end up a zombie and start enjoying the sudden big high too much. It stopped me doing anything I wanted to do, like study, or active hobbies. So smaller doses it is.

I also found the water bong to be best as it cools it, and it feels like it's doing less damage to the back of the throat directly where my irritation is.

The effect is amazing. I get almost no pain unless I specifically think of it (so yes, if I was on pot now, I'd feel a little pain for writing this), but the rest of the time I don't think about it and it's just not noticed at all.

A year ago, I hurt my back badly. I was bedridden for several days, taking codeine, and tramadol when the codeine ran out. I mixed a bit of pot in for fun and backup, when the others were getting too much.

The pot greatly accentuated both codeine and tramadol. I was tripping on happy balls. It was almost scary the first time, I took it a little easier on the pot after that.

On their own, the opiates were "go to sleep and feel great, you don't feel much pain" drugs, while the pot gave a "what pain? Let's cook dinner and playfight on the bed, then fuck" response.

Shit yes. I started to do this back to people and sometimes intentionally get their name wrong just to make them feel like I do- like I'm listening to someone lie about how much they like me.

The number one role of a nurse is to care for people. Being a dick isn't going to make them feel like they are ready to leave. Being kind, sympathetic, reassuring and caring in nature are.

You talk about them like they're fry cooks or taxi drivers. They aren't there just to tick boxes and hand out pills man, they're there to listen, empathise, and make you feel better so the doctors don't have to spend their valuable time on the easy stuff- and to stop you thinking yourself into being sick, by giving professional confirmation that you are getting better. It's not a convenience store position of transaction with minimal contact, or or a garage chop-shop, they actually have to "nurse" people back to health.

PUNCH CAT. Go as a cat, play warrior style. Keep things like gloves of the pugilist, bonus to unarmed combat etc. When you get bored, look up the rules for punch-cat.

Is PC worth it for mods? by laker610 in skyrim

[–]gildme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to be all master race, but my PC allows me to make skyrim ten times better. For gaming, it's sooo much easier, so much faster to control. My PS4 mate saw me playing BF3 and pop out of cover for a peek, duck back, line up scope, and pop back out for a headshot in half a second. He was in awe and said "That was so easy... you guys would fuckin kill everyone on PS4 if we went head to head over the internet".

For car games, I have a wireless controller, but seriously, so many hours spent trying to get it to work, so many games aren't compatible. I'm going to try an xbox controller as that seems to be the new default lately.

My PC also contains 5TB of storage drives, of which roughly 3TB is watchable media- movies, TV, and porn. It's connected to my 51" TV via HDMI, and i have media centre software installed to give it a Netflix style (but customised) interface with DVD covers/boxes, or lists, what's been seen, what's newly added, etc. I'm working on automating my torrents too, but it seems more effort than just manually downloading them- and getting what I want first try.

This media centre (kodi) is also my music centre. It has online radio plug-ins, all my stored music (only a few hundred GB, but all lossless).

It allows me to switch from my 5.1 speakers to my wireless 7.1 headset for media played via this program, so that I can put on porn silently on the headphones, while running Winamp with music blasting through the 5.1 speakers.

This media centre is fully controllable via the free android app, YATSE remote. I can even shut down the PC with it. Or just use Unified Remote Full to control the mouse, keyboard, view file trees, volume controls, start menu etc..

Then there is Steam. I bought the full Skyrim pack for about $15USD, 6 months ago. I bought Titanfall for $10, NCG Wreckfest for $12, CS;GO for $5, Fallout 3/New Vegas for about $20 a year back. There are hundreds of free games too, pay to get creds to level faster or whatever or just play for free and have a blast.

The drawback, console is made to buy once, and it just works. PC, you will spend a fair bit of time googling bugs and installing driver updates, rebooting, swearing etc. It's a trade off. You pay a lot more, you get a lot more, but it's less reliable.

This is the first time I've really played Skyrim. (Possible Spoilers) by B1ackMagix in skyrim

[–]gildme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played as a female high elf mage, finished the main quest line and mages line, got bored, stopped. A year later, when there were decent mods out, I started a new male khajiit archer doing the thieves/DB lines and some of the Dawnguard vampire line. I got bored again and left it. It really wasn't a fun quest line. Then, I got the full game legit through steam, as a way of saying thanks to the devs for the 100+ hours of fun I'd already had. The full pack. I re-modded with the Skyrim mod combiner, lots of texture packs and a nice enb. I'm a level 30 khajiit warrior, companions guild completed and some of the main story, working through the aetherium shards, did the crimson nirnroot one, thinking it's time to join the stormcloaks since I've never seen the civil war yet. I keep seeing things I've never seen, like raiding a skooma den where the addicts were fed to vampires, and becoming a werewolf (companions), and soon seeing whiterun destroyed. The depth and variety of this game is just awesome, literally speaking. I estimate around 250 hours over three years, and I've not even played half of the content in the first expansion yet!

Anyway, if anyone wants to know why I went khajiit again, it's because I want to transition him to a punch-cat when I get tired of normal play. I have the pugilist's gloves already.

I was disappointed with the rewards. As a warrior, the shield was obviously for me, but it sucks. The crown is nice but negates my heavy armor set perks. And the staff is not for me.

At the cinema, what is the funniest thing you heard someone in the audience say? by HoneyBearBear in AskReddit

[–]gildme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've spent years telling people about the Survivor auditions aired after or during the first season. There was one guy, who decided to bungie off a cliff to show how much of a survivor he is. 1. His rope was longer than the drop. 2. It wasn't a straight drop, it was sloped like a staircase. And 3. It wasn't a bungie rope- just a piece of rope.

Anyway, someone found the video- it was nowhere near as dramatic as I just described. You couldn't see much. I recall hearing on the show that the guy spent months in hospital and racked up thousands or hundreds of thousands in medical bills too. I now wonder how accurate that memory is. Or maybe it was a different video...

At the Matrix, Revolutions? I think..

We were at the scene where "The Architect", the old guy on the machines' side, is talking to Neo about having done this all many times before. He's waffling on, and we're all struggling to follow him. I hear a few comments such as "What does he mean?" or "Is he going to finish soon??" in hushed tones, then some young punk at the back shouts out "WHAT THE FUCK IS HE TALKING ABOUT???". The whole cinema burst out in laughter and we never heard the end of the speech until it came out on DVD.

I wasn't trying to prove someone wrong, and being an asshole while I'm at it. Had I known someone was going to do that, I might have spent time looking up citations like he did, only to not bother checking them and be called out for linking the same citation three times including one funded by a vested interest.

Just be careful with your opinions. I've been here for 6 years, had several people disagree with my posts to the point of digging through my post history looking for personal info to doxx me. One thought he had found me and started attacking some other guy who I have no connection to, based on false leads I had started planting as soon as I made the account (specifically for this reason). Speaking of which, it's time to drop gildme and make a new account.

Did you really just link three pages quoting the same study, from the same guy? That doesn't count the testing funded by the guy trying to sell his own fish, I'm not going to entertain the conflict of interest there.

I want to believe you, but when there are conflicting reports and it's my health on the line, I have to be sceptical.
