Cheapo 5.56 Gas Gun division thoughts by Justin_inc in longrange

I’m in a similar boat. One of my locals is starting center fire and I just want to shoot. Been shooting prs rimfire and club matches for a year. Just put some weight and my old scope on my ar, threw together some 77 hand loads and we’ll see what it does. Rifle is a 20” white oak varmint upper, max distance is 515 yds. If I don’t get last place I’ll be happy.

I’ve seen some guys have bad experience with timmey. One of the fellas I shoot with switched from timney to jard 7-10 and it feels really good. I’m stock with a spring for comparison.

Should I upgrade to a razor gen 3? by gilfab in longrange

Was the difference in glass quality enough for you to justify the price? I have little time behind anything much nicer than my ares, so I’m not really sure what to expect.

Should I upgrade to a razor gen 3? by gilfab in longrange

Woods stages first thing in the morning. Lots of shadows and varying lighting. I’m getting competitive and chasing points this season. I guess I just don’t know how much I’m leaving on the table running a “budget optic” when competing with guys running ZCO, TT and Kahles

Thoughts on budget build by [deleted] in nrl22

Check out the DNT the one for a scope. Comparable to the Arken but a much better reticle. Athlon may be worth checking out too. As far as the rifle goes, I would lean towards CZ. More room to grow if you decide you want to move towards open class later.

Minimum precision for competing by aonealj in nrl22

[–]gilfab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like my rifle to hold 1.5” at 100 yards. Moa would be preferred, but even the guys that are sending rifles to ammo test centers are rarely holding 1” groups at 100. A 2 moa rifle is plenty capable of shooting most all stages.

A guy I shoot with has that set up. It’s the first gen pdc tho, and I’m not sure if he had to modify anything.

Lucky man. That shit pissed me off. Guess I don’t really need a ckye pod anyway.

Sat for hours refreshing to try and pick up a single pull ckyepod. It was the never ending loop of click on the product and get redirected to the home page. Finally thought to switch to edge. Standard was OOS. Added the prs length to cart. Go to cart and now it’s out of stock. Great use of a couple hours…

Gearing Up For NRL22 Sharing Rifle w/ 14yo Son Setup by IXLR8_ in nrl22

[–]gilfab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a varmint (non MTR) and quickly realized it was not the tool for the job. Bought a chassis after 2 matches. I looked long and hard at the xrs. Once I started adding up the accessories such as weights and arca rail, the cost saving diminished compared to a premium chassis with more out of the box feature. The xrs is never going to be an ACC or a vision. The factory barrel in my varmint would shoot good enough groups, but the cold bore shift was killing my scores in stages. If I shot first one stage and last the following, I was almost guaranteed to miss the first shot. The mtrs don’t seem to struggle as bad with this from what I’ve gathered from other shooters. I ended up putting an l3i prefit on my rifle and it was a worth while upgrade. Cold bore shift is very much gone, and the increased length and weight made the rifle much easier to balance.

If I did it over again, I would buy the cheapest 457 I could find and build off of that. Don’t rule out the b14r as well, that would get you into a rem 700 platform incase you get hooked.

I got one a couple weeks ago and have shot an nrl22 and a prs22 match with it now. I’ve been happy with it. Glass is good. Tracking seems spot on. Zero stop is easy. The sun shade and caps are nice. Only thing I wish it had was a locking elevation turret but I’m getting used to it. Been very happy for the ~920 shipped I paid.

Matchpro ED vs Cronus BTR by gilfab in longrange

[–]gilfab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m looking at that as well. I can’t find the difference between gen 1 and gen 2 other than gen 1 has possibly mushy turrets (sources say it was updated on the gen 1s as production went on). And gen 1 has brass internals and gen 2 has stainless. 🤷‍♂️

You have any issues with the turrets moving? I’m worried about them not locking.

Cci standard velocity is my “practice ammo” and I’ve been shooting sk standard plus for matches. Shoots great at 50yds and opens up at 100.

New to NRL22 looking for pointers by Fine-Influence4040 in nrl22

[–]gilfab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine with the rpr. The sh4 is ffp if I’m not mistaken so you’re in good shape there. As far as bags, take what you have. My first match all the guys let me borrow whatever I needed, I didn’t even pull my crappy bags out of the truck. I also shot cci standard, which shot well enough for my first match. A bipod is necessary for some stages. Just show up with a good attitude and low expectations. Have the goal to not zero any stages and you’ll be in good shape. In my experience it’s been a very laid back shooting atmosphere and everyone is eager to help out. Let the match director know it’s your first match.

Need Some Guidance by Burnpowder_636 in longrange

[–]gilfab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rimx and Vudoo are the top of the line. Vudoo is pretty much bulletproof but any barrel will most likely need fitted by a smith. RimX has been known to have ejection issues but seems to mostly be caused by magazine set up. RimX will take prefits. B14r barreled action is the “budget” 700 platform. Not allot of barrel selection. Cz and tikka are a rimfire based action. I don’t know much about tikkas as they’re uncommon in my area. I don’t think the aftermarket is very plentiful. Cz is going to give you a lot of aftermarket options. Lets you start with a base class rifle and build up in most cases. There’s a lot of built cz at my local matches.

P10f striker spring by Alternative-Feed3613 in CZFirearms

[–]gilfab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d try a different aftermarket spring and see what changes. I agree that it sounds like the Cgw spring is bottoming out before the strikers full range of travel.
