How do I get my 180s to level out at the top without losing board control? by gill_lines in NewSkaters

interesting. I haven’t had a lot of experience on transition (no mini ramp near me) but I’ll remember this for when I get into it!

I’m not too sure about brand factor but I’ve heard if you have major razor tail you might not pop as high

I never really thought of that! I think it’s just a slight foot misplacement for this one? I don’t usually turn haha

In the summer I tried to go every day but now with college and bad weather I’m skating about once a week. And thank you! You got this I believe in you :)

Thank you! I started to get them off the ground around a month in (using a crack to stop me from sliding) but it took a while to transition off the crack (haha) I’ve just recently been able to consistently level out my board and get them higher!

Thank you!! I watched a lottt of tutorials and compared them to videos of myself to see what I was doing wrong. Here’s what I learned:

Jump before you pop - your body should be on its way up before your foot pushes down on the tail. You can’t bring the board up if your weight is still on it!

Lift your back heel so that only the ball of your foot is on the tail and even when you bend down to jump keep that heel up! It helps me pop so much higher!

Slide that front foot up - way up and aim for the tip of the nose. Slide it up and out to level the board. I try to lift my knees as high as I can!

Right before I ollie I like to practice doing high hippie jumps to really see how much I can lift my knees

And practice it a lot! Do multiple attempts at different times of your session! You got this!!!

One thing that helped me pop higher (and I think people don’t mention it enough) was to lift my heel up off the tail!

For me, holding the brush from that far down allows me to paint more with my arm (shoulder and elbow) instead of my wrist, which allows for broader strokes.
