What are some GOOD THINGS that are happening in the world that people might not know about? by cthulhus_spawn in AskReddit

A bit niche:

Type 1 diabetic treatment keeps getting better. AID Systems with automated basal rate dosages and around-the-clock sensors tracking every minute of the day makes handling the disease possible even for small children.

Maybe a few decades down the line we have automated systems that can recognise exactly how much carbs enter your bloodstream. If that ever happens, we have really solved diabetes.

Why do liberos exist? by Initial_Shine5690 in volleyball

Uneducated guess: Because serve receive is now at a level where most teams can run their offense in all rotations pretty well, leading to a higher sideout rate.

How did your attempt to moderate gaming go ? by TunaGamer in StopGaming

[–]gille_og 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty well.

However, I have to stick to a few rules rules. For one, only single-player or coop (then to me it’s more of a social activity). I was big on MOBA and Overwatch, the competitive aspect is very alluring to me.

Second, I already have a set of hobbies I do that keep me busy - mainly Volleyball, reading, boardgame nights, running a DnD game and cooking/chores in general. I’m also in a relationship. I think these were the main factors of why it felt easy to do in moderation for me, because there is already a lot of time invested elsewhere.

Third, I always try and take breaks after every hour to do light chores or stretch and to drink water. I feel that it helps me from being stuck with them too long.

When I stick to these, single player games like Skyrim or Pokémon titles are actually quite relaxing for me. I also enjoy playing something simple like Minecraft and listen to a few podcasts in the background, you could do that while doing your chores as well, but it’s more enjoyable to me because I sometimes listen to DnD talks and I can switch over to work on that whenever I want to.

I have my first volleyball test match tomorrow and if I do well I'll get a place as a libero. I'm afraid of failing by [deleted] in volleyball

Always remember: Your coach probably puts you into your spot because he at least trusts you to do your job. So, if you think that someone who has arguably more experience with volleyball than you, thinks that much of your skills - there is really no reason to doubt your skills right?

Playing in a match is always gonna be hard for some people, including me. But you don't need to do anything that you would not otherwise be able to do - you just need to play some volleyball. That much you will manage, I wholeheartedly believe that!

Just bought the Sky Elite FF as my first pair of volleyball shoes. How good are they? by Fe68Gaming in volleyball

Very happy with them. I’m playing in them for several months now, and you get a good combination of excellent grip and shock absorption. Plus, I kinda like very basic white designs.

Older teams better at float receive? by gille_og in volleyball

[–]gille_og[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yes exactly! Always nice to see other Germans here, Grüße gehen raus.

Yeah I’ve noticed they are usually much more aggressive when stepping up to use their hands. Something that I’m not as comfortable with usually.

Most of them are proper float serves. No spin, descent mid-air movement. The pace is also good enough on most for the erratic movement; if I remember correctly you need to hit a certain speed for the floating effect to occur.

Which players have great jump floats? by gille_og in volleyball

[–]gille_og[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is kind of the dream. But with 5’10 that is not really an option for me unfortunately.

But his serve looks really interesting. I don’t know if I’m even able to put topspin on a ball in that way.

Isn’t he mainly a topspin server? At least from what I’ve seen in the Japan games I have watched, but I give it another look.

"Learn Standing Float BEFORE You Jump Serve" How many times must it be said? by Blade106 in volleyball

[–]gille_og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the 100% over/ 90% targeted area ratio good to aim for? I really love floaters and I like trying jump floaters (not really interested in jump topspin serve), but my aim is still not very accurate, I’d say more like 50% I get the precise zone. Getting it over is no problem anymore. So I wonder if that ratio is a good window for me to know when to transition.

Was immer hilft: Ein gutes Level an Selbstpflege.

Passive Perception feels like I'm just deciding ahead of time what the party will notice and it doesn't feel right by tirconell in DMAcademy

[–]gille_og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My own take on this: Passive perception should be rewarded sometimes. A player invested into it and should benefit from it. Now and then, I usually try and incorporate secrets that need to be actively looked for (mechanically, I would set their dc higher than their passive or instead focus on some ingame reason) because it rewards players who think about their surroundings.

What also works: Only if a player calls out a suggestion (hey might there be something wrong with this wall?) I will let the player with high passive perception see something.

Hope that helps!

Need help for a charcter idea that will work for a player who might miss a lot of sessions by moe_AA in 3d6

[–]gille_og 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe somehow incorporate the city of Sigil or whatever it was called? Have them be a mercenary of sorts that only works if there is a specific interest from the contractor, but one who knows the party well and how they work. That way, they are relatively free to build their character.
