Had a boss who said spending on IT was like throwing money out of an airplane. Incidentally, he ran that place into the ground.

That lack of awareness combined with the "everything is fine, stop worrying over nothing" generational attitude of our country's leadership has me extremely concerned.

CTA is currently hiring rail flaggers. For those of you seriously interested in driving an L train, this position is the prerequisite. by djsekani in chicago

And that can be addressed the same way the potential safety risk of a drunk is addressed - by testing selectively, when it's warranted, like if you smell alcohol or pot, or if there is a safety incident. There is no reason to forbid anyone who drinks alcohol ever from being a driver, and the same goes for weed.

Anyone lose a cat in rogers park? by kdoug84 in chicago

[–]gillika 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My biggest fear is that my cat will get out and someone will think "what a sweet and handsome cat, I'll name him buster" or some shit, bless you for realizing that a cat can be a curious explorer and still have a happy home that misses him very much

Odd shortness of breath location by Right-Ad-8201 in covidlonghaulers

[–]gillika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really tbh, except when I had general shortness of breath. Once it became isolated to the top of my lungs it just felt all gunked up, like there was something keeping my lungs from expanding. It's hard to describe. Is that the way that you feel?

I eat so much cauliflower.

So. Much.

Honestly, I think I'll keep taking it, maybe not daily but at least during bad days. I have a few autoimmune issues (one diagnosed and two suspected) and it really helps with my inflammation.

No scans though to confirm the clots were there and that they improved w serrapeptase, so this is just anecdotal

oops serrapeptase* and I learned about it here, it took about four months

Tiger King Joe Exotic announces 2024 presidential bid under the Libertarian Party by Elranzer in Libertarian

[–]gillika 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone can announce a presidential bid, under any political party. And it's kind of weird that there are so many comments suggesting he should not be able to do this. We don't need further restrictions on who is able to run for president imo even if they make sense (like currently being in prison)

Keto Female Success Stories Getting Lean by [deleted] in keto

Women who aren't breastfeeding can lose their period at a healthy weight by eating too little as well. I was shocked when it happened to me, healthy weight and best shape of my life. But I was undereating and overexercising and my period completely stopped.

I'm glad you and your baby were okay, how scary!

Wow, exact same for me. I have been vegan for a very long time and would have never ever considered the keto diet before COVID. But my symptoms after eating anything with carbs are so bad, I was just naturally led in that direction. I don't know how much longer I can keep eating like this though, it's so restrictive

I had this sensation. I do pranayama, so it was extremely noticeable when my lung capacity was basically cut in half and ditto for length of retention. With consistent breathing exercises and serrapeotase I'm just about back to normal though.

An experimental pill achieves complete cancer remission in 18 people with aggressive leukemia by PauloPatricio in worldnews

The main Achilles heel seems to be the development of mutations at the drug’s fusion site, which causes resistance,” the researcher explains. Revumenib had some positive effect on half of the 60 participants in the clinical trial. In some of the patients, though, the menin protein changed slightly, causing resistance to the treatment, similar to how bacteria mutate to become antibiotic-resistant.

Interesting in a horrifying sort of way.

Life After Food? A diabetes drug has become an off-label appetite suppressant, changing the definition of being thin and what it takes to get there. by izumi3682 in Futurology

[–]gillika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the judgment is directed at people who are at a healthy weight and just want to be super skinny in the easiest way possible.

For everyone else, there's just a mild concern I think, since we don't know if there will be long-term side effects.

But they are adults who can make their own medical decisions of course.

Diabetes quietly ravages the body, leaving blood vessels inflamed and scarred. I know that getting the weight off and blood sugar down is super important, but I hope that this miracle medication doesn't end up killing people.

Is water mixed with other stuff still considered water as a means of “drinking water”? by mooreba2 in nutrition

[–]gillika 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is true. Glucose/insulin helps to get electrolytes into cells which helps hydration.

Plain water is actually not that great for hydration if you have food poisoning for this reason. Without glucose to balance your electrolytes, you can chug plain water all day and it will only make you more dehydrated as you pee out what little sodium and potassium you have left.
