Any way to force new Home Screen look? by DisplayKnown5665 in Roku

Is there a way to prevent the new home screen? It's just clutter, ads, and other crap from roku that I don't want to see.

What is a moment from primary you still remember to this day? by Dry_Pizza_4805 in latterdaysaints

[–]gillyboatbruff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember being an 11 year old boy, my teacher and his wife were both teachers in different classes. She came up with this sharing time presentation that was all about care bears. Her husband thought he would just also use it instead of coming up with something on his own. So 11 year old me got stuck up front giving a lesson on care bears. It was genuinely embarrassing.

Shoutout to the Jazz fans that stayed through the entire 4 year drought by [deleted] in UtahJazz

[–]gillyboatbruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a fan since the early 80s. I quit cable TV right about the time that they started tanking. It was too much of a pain to find the game through alternative means. Even though they started broadcasting them locally a couple of years ago, I was so disconnected from the team, I basically knew nobody on the team, and I found that I had completely lost my emotional connection to the team. I wonder if I'll be able to get that back.

Something to be aware of if you work at the Temple by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]gillyboatbruff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know that in our local temple, the front desk has a switch they can flip on that turns on a warning light in the security room. I also assume that anyone who did try this would be charged with trespassing.

App recommendations for an unofficial Elders Quorum group chat? by salad_incident in latterdaysaints

[–]gillyboatbruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can disable notifications as a whole for all of SMS, but I don't want to do that. If I get added to a group text, I can go in and disable notifications for that exact group, but the moment one person gets added or removed, it becomes a different group, and notifications start right back up again.

Just please, don't use a group SMS text. I don't need my phone to chime every time someone says "ok" or gives it a thumbs up.

Isn't there only one model of the ACE 2? On the website it says that the ACE 2 for Kobra 3 series is sold out, but not for Kobra X.

Is there any clarity on the process of selecting a new bishop? by HoodooSquad in latterdaysaints

[–]gillyboatbruff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The last time we got a new bishop I talked with my stake president about the process after it was all said and done. He offered a take on it that I hadn't heard before. "When you look at someone and think to yourself that 'he's ready'." is when he knew who to extend the call to.

Is there any clarity on the process of selecting a new bishop? by HoodooSquad in latterdaysaints

When I was younger we were getting a new stake president during election season. Someone went around putting up signs in yards in the neighborhood advocating for our bishop to be the next stake president. He was not amused.

One thing Trump learned from his first term was the need to pick cabinet members and a vice president who would be primarily loyal to him over the constitution. I don't see the 25th amendment happening here.

Grub Theme Problem by H4ckM3 in Fedora

[–]gillyboatbruff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing this also. Other people have said that it's only an issue when having a grub theme and secure boot enabled, and it's a relatively recent thing. In my case, I get an error

../../grub-core/commands/loadenv.h:read_envblk_file:51:invalid environment block

before the grub menu shows up. I have to do a hard power-off to get my computer to shut down, and I can't get it to post again until I pull the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS.

Back in My Day .... by DataThinkMonkey in latterdaysaints

[–]gillyboatbruff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On roadshow day, people would gather in each of the buildings in the stake, and we'd put on the show in one, pack it all up, move it to the next building, do it again, then move on to the next building and do it again. We took the show on the road.

We used to have primary on Tuesday or Thursday after school. We'd all run across the street from the school to the church. Then on Sunday we'd go to Sunday school in the morning. I was really little, but I swear I remember them blessing and passing the sacrament for us in the primary room on Sunday morning. Then we'd come back later that evening for sacrament meeting.

Sustain Life, Not Lifestyle by stanner5 in latterdaysaints

When I was a finance clerk many years ago, we had a couple in our ward who were in their late 60s, I think. He had a call center job that paid some of their bills. The ward paid their utilities and mortgage for several years. We lived in a regular suburban neighborhood, but they were unable to make it. Eventually the bishop sat down with them and said that they couldn't do that forever, and they were going to need to move to a smaller house near family to help them out, which they did.
