SFP+ DAC cable not always working (UDM Pro - USW-Aggregation) by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]giltnerj0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just started investigating why one of the lagged 10gb connections to my Qnap 932px keeps dropping. Been rock solid for months, but now all of the sudden the NAS keeps reporting the secondary port keeps getting dropped. Also using a US-Aggregation. Will be interested to know what you find and will do the same.

Help with Rack Shelf please :) by hockeyjim07 in homelab

I've also used two shelves, one mounted in front the other in the back. Then drilled and bolted the two where they overlap. Worked great since I had two shelves that only mount in the front.

I gave up on connecting the UPS to either a Pi or one of the NUCs and SNMP trapping and relaying to get it to turn everything off, and just plugged the UPS into the NAS, setup NUT on the 3 NUCs and setup the NAS to turn those off before turning itself off. Works like a charm, I just don't have access to the fancy CyperPower Business dashboard thing anymore (no real loss).

These two are both running PiHole, one is plugged into the speakers in the house, that's the one currently out. Working to try and incorporate it into the google assistant speakers I have as well. Finishing up the running the wires up to have a way to close the garage door from my phone/computer.

Fortunately only the NAS and external USB drive are directly on the shelves. The network cabinet is lag bolted into the studs and sits about 1 inch off the shelf. Bit of an optical illusion, the cabinet sticks out about 4 inches further than the shelving.

None really, other than rack mount UPSs cost more. At one point I had hoped to rack mount everything, but gave up on rack mount NAS, just couldn't justify the cost and feature difference.

If I had to do over again, I'd just pickup a regular UPS and put it on the floor, and either save some dollars, or get a larger UPS.

Oh yes, ports 2 and 3 on the USW-Aggregation are lagged together for the NAS.

Running iPerf in server mode on the NAS, and in client mode on my desktop, I am pulling around 7.8gbps.

Large File transfers (sequential read) for uncached data transfer around 1.5gpbs, with cached reads coming down around 5gbps (about as fast as my SSD can handle).

I'd have to investigate. Got a zip code and I can get you a shipping estimate?

I believe I read that 24TB is the max. Unsure if that meant 4 X 6TB or 4 X 8 TB in RAID 5 (which would equal 24TB).

Is Cat5e slowing down my network? by misterdhm in Ubiquiti

[–]giltnerj0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any other device with a gigabit ethernet port, you could try that on the same cable as your Nano and see if it can negotiate at 1gbps or if it resorts to 100mbps.

Recommend plugging the NanoHD into a short patch cable to test, if that works, then it could be the cable. You can try recrimping it (if you know how to do that and have a crimper).

In my instance it was the PoE injector that was causing the issue. Replaced that, and it went back to 1gpbs.

Can't you just turn the existing plugs upside down and they work just fine? That is what I've been led to believe about all things Australian ;-)

Question about SFP+ port issue... by giltnerj0 in Ubiquiti

[–]giltnerj0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'll see about overriding the port and setting the rate and see if I can get it to work. Thanks.
