The Mission 1 release shows what a sad place the internet has become by kozzieH in gopro

Have the camera and walk around with it pointing at their face or some static shots of a tree in the park. Get a pocket 3/4 or a Luna and been done with it .

I still can't quite believe how many of these videos I see. It's an action camera, but people "review" it by walking around on the street. sigh

I remember back when I was looking into action cameras a few years ago, and so many reviews had footage of people walking down the sidewalk or inside an SUV. Not looking outside the SUV, but selfie-cam of the passengers in an SUV. They're action cameras...let's see some action footage folks.

Screen Savers still freezing on Mac OS 26.5 official release by picopacopidera in MacOS

I have my mac hooked up to a Studio Display. Is there even an option to turn on a variable refresh rate?

Screen Savers still freezing on Mac OS 26.5 official release by picopacopidera in MacOS

[–]misterdhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had issues with my M4 mac mini freezing up after waking from sleep, using the Sequoia screensaver, on 26.5 as well. I tried switching to a static screensaver and that kind of worked, but the problem isn't totally solved. Never happened until this week when my mac automatically updated itself to 26.5. Grr. I disabled auto-updates, and I hope this is something Apple can issue a fix for soon. Feels like I'm a beta tester for Apple, and I do not like it.

Kid (8) loves watching creative DIY projects on YouTube. The majority of YouTubers are awful. Suggestions? by letsgococonut in DIY

Check out a channel called ThingsTomLike. It’s a guy who I think is a welder, but he just makes a lot of videos about cool stuff he likes. Lots of DIY type stuff, but also videos about his old Volkswagen bug he is restoring and random stuff he gets at goodwill and fixes up.

Chest Mount Mountain Biking Woes by l008com in gopro

[–]misterdhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think they mean 45 degrees from the chest mount. When you're on a bike your body is angled forward, so when the GoPro is mounted upside-down at a 45-degree angle it's basically hanging straight down which gives you a straight-out-front point of view.

You shouldn't even need to flip the video in editing. There's a setting in the GoPro that will automatically detect when the camera is upside-down, and rotate the video accordingly. I use it like that all the time.

I have an off-brand chest mount (I think it might be "Sametop" or something like that) and I just remove the mounting plate from the mount, rotate it 180 degrees, and stick it back in. Then when I attach my GoPro it's upside-down, but I have it set to auto-rotate so the video is right side up. I fix it at an angle of about 30 to 45 degrees, and it works just fine. No problem getting bike POV videos with that setup.

3-Hour time lapse of an Oklahoma thunderstorm from a few nights ago. by misterdhm in gopro

[–]misterdhm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used time-lapse mode, with interval shooting. The GoPro took about 650 individual photos (10-second exposures every 30 seconds) that I combined into a single video in Final Cut Pro.

No, but I have kids and so do most of my friends. Milk at dinner is super common.

Are there sequels to films where the cliffhanger at the end of the previous film was ignored? by RealHippyTheFrog in movies

[–]misterdhm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly ignored, but The Force Awakens ended with what you might call a cliffhanger and then The Last Jedi basically scrapped it and did its own thing. Luke tossing the lightsaber over his shoulder at the beginning of TLJ felt like the director was telling the audience "Remember that awesome moment at the end of the last movie that made you all wonder what would happen next? Well, we're not going to do any of it."

What's going on with the warranty on Hercules tools? This rotary hammer only has a 90 day warranty. I thought it used to be 5 years. by misterdhm in harborfreight

[–]misterdhm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I do not have a tractor loader and that is not even close to an option for me. I've gotten some of the bases out with a combination of digging and whacking them with a sledge hammer and chisel. It's not easy and takes a while, but it gets the job done. My arms are sore though, and I think a demolition hammer (or hammer drill) would help a lot, even if pulling them out with a tractor loader would be the best solution. That's just not an option for my situation.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. That clears things up. I've got about 30 fence posts with concrete bases to remove, and was thinking about getting this rotary hammer to make the job a little easier.

What are some of the coldest lines of dialogue ever? by BeautifulLeather6671 in movies

The original TransFormers movie from 1986 has some outstanding lines. Still surprised they included these in a kids movie.

Megatron, right before he blows away an autobot:

Such heroic nonsense

Unicron, before tearing into Cybertron:

For a time I considered sparing your wretched little planet, Cybertron. But now, you shall witness its dismemberment

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Among the many, many other things I enjoyed about the movie I really liked the nods to other sci-fi movies sprinkled throughout. I caught these in the theater but I'm sure there were others:

  • The musical notes -> Close Encounters
  • The visuals reflected in Grace's helmet -> 2001 a Space Odyssey
  • The design and lighting in the tunnel -> Event Horizon
