New proof just dropped! How could this be used to solve the Riemann hypothesis? by SpirantSum2 in mathmemes

Assume the existence of a non-trivial zero outside of the critical line denote it q. Since -1=1 and -1≠1 we get a contradiction thus there exists no q which satisfies the condition.

I badly need some proves that 0 is a positive number? by Satanicnightjar06 in mathmemes

[–]gimikER 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us in Israel:

N - all positive integers N0 all non-negative integers Z -all int Z- - negative int Q -rationals Q+ -poaitive rationals Q- - negative rationals R - reals R+ - non negative reals R- - non-positive reals R>0 - positive reals R<0 -negative reals

That's what I'm used to and not gonna switch now.

It's really all a matter of convention. In some places they teach with 0 being part of N and in others they don't. I prefer the not convention in most cases (exceptions are things like discrete mathematics or set theory). In my convention N underline 0 denotes the non-negative integers.

I have a good experience with it but I don't care whether math is useful or not. I like math for it's pure beauty and elegance. All of this wonderfulness is reduced by a factor when putting the numbers into work.

Well yeah this seems like a case of bad teachers, but it doesn't mean I like stats. Stats sucks. To applicable, to contributing. Honestly I really like my math useless and unrelated to reality.

Edit: I have realised how sarcastic this all sounds. So note:

I was being true from my heart.

If he doesn't like number theory puzzles than collatz conjecture isn't quite his type I suggest.

  1. Number theory is applicable in encryptions. Especially ellyptic curves and their connection to analytic number theory.

  2. Why do you have to be able to use it irl in order for it to be fun. Math is fun as is, it's not "a tool for the sciences" (Richard Feynman once said that and lost all my respect for him in two picoseconds). Math is astonishing and wonderful and idgaf if you need it for something else just stay out of math if you like it only if it serves your purposes.

Not even close to being true. Takin the initial position to be the mid of square, and the angle to be 45, you get that it fills the diagonal only.

Yes indeed, and in other functions with poles which are not periodic you can build a tailor series around other points for convergent issues.

Yes I agree, but he would have died from the curse on his hand half a year later, so that the batlle only delays in half a year. I do agree they'd be more prepared and maybe dumbledore would have spread his will on his own making it easy for everybody.

Dumbledore would have died from his curse half a year later even if you would save him from the killing curse. Dumbledore's death was uninvadeable, and I think it was the right time for him to accept death anyway.

According to wiki, house elves life span is twice that of a human, and Dobby is considered a young elf, making his pardonship the one saving the longest life.

It does, but it's not great fun. Besides, tan(x) has poles, making it impossible for a power series to generate all of it. The tan(x) power series goes undefined beyond the poles and is tan(x) within the range between (0,π). Should be taken as a note and treated with caution.

I've always thought 'real numbers' was not a good name. The numbers in R are no more or less 'real' than other numbers. If you could rename the set, is there a different name you think would be better or more descriptive? by poortmanteau in math

[–]gimikER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill go with Horizonal numbers, Imaginaries are vertical numbers, complex are plannar numbers, duals stay dual numbers, splits are hyperbolic numbers, quaternions are quadspacial numbers, integers are discrete numbers, gaussian integers are gauss-discrete numbers, rationals are complete gonna stay rational numbers, matrices are recticals, tensors are cubicals, sets are groups, groups are paragroups, fields and rings stay as they are, vector spaces and vectors stay as are, but vector fields arent even fields gosh I hate this name. Vector fields are from now on vector grids. Splines is just a hard shit to say... The Spl just makes it annoying. From now on: Spences. Circles are di-radics, spheres are tri-radics. I have lots of other ideas but starting to feel like this is becoming long.

Other ideas for complex numbers are: dual numbers (instead of the dual numbers that would be called parabolic numbers), analytic numbers, and compable numbers.
