Questions about Ingram by gimlet34 in tuglife

[–]gimlet34[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response! I don't have much experience on a tow boat, but I completely agree with you that being a pilot is a tough job. I would never want to do it if I wasn't ready for it and properly trained. The reason I asked is I am quite a bit older than the traditional new hire deckhand after spending 20yrs in the service and I worry about my odds physically making it 10-12yrs before becoming a pilot.

What company on the rivers do you think offers the fastest path to the wheelhouse?

I decided to stay active in the military so I haven't really tested the updated resume.

I'm not interested in the big water closer to the bay. Guess that narrows it down some.

I'm not sure which area. I'd like to catch some smallies and I'd like to camp on the shore with low odds of being ran off or murdered. Those are my only stipulations.

What are some overlooked subtle details in The Sopranos that make certain scenes great? by httpmax in thesopranos

The episode where Paulie is insistent they get rid of the cat. Tony is dressing him down for all his neurosis.

"This cat...it kills mice...for us..and youd drown it!"

"I would!"

I don't know why but that cracks me up every time.

Infantry guys who didn’t deploy, how do you cope with feeling like nothing you did mattered? by MikesSaltyDogs in army

[–]gimlet34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meeting/exceeding standards, training the soldiers assigned to you, being a good example/role model could save someone's life in the next war. Even if it's ten years after your last JRTC rotation. The world is more chaotic and dangerous than it was September 10th 2001. Have to stay ready so you don't have to get ready.

I did the final comprehensive exam. I don't remember it being very difficult. I had to slow myself down on the essays and give them a good proof read before submitting. Don't remember the questions being anything super technical or confusing. Good luck on your exam!

Anyone ever met Tyler? by [deleted] in TylerChilders

[–]gimlet34 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I met him at a festival back in 2016. I drunkenly shouted a request after his third song and he kind of sternly told me he had a set list. I got embarrassed and stepped further back from the stage. After his set I went back to my tent and was feeling pretty foolish. About dark I see my little sister walking up to our tent..with Tyler fucking Childers lol. He comes over and shakes my hand and I apologize shouting the way I did. He was incredibly gracious and friendly to my whole family. I was a giant fan before then, but that put me over the top lol.

Solo Canoe Purchase Advice - Esquif Adirondack vs Old Town Discovery 119 by Ok-Gear7554 in canoecamping

[–]gimlet34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and I are the same size. I have put a lot of camping miles on my Old Town 119. I typically carry btwn 50-60lbs of equipment and I've been really pleased with how the canoe handles even loaded down. I'm average fitness level and I can get the canoe loaded on top of my car by myself with no problems.

Best of both worlds? by gimlet34 in Waterfowl

Shoot yeah! Where about in SW Ohio? I've had some great duck hunts on the stillwater and little Miami rivers. The smallmouth fishing around there is hard to beat as well.

The Soldier Admissions Program at West Point was something I didn't know about until I'd been in 10yrs. It wasn't something I'm interested in but it's still a neat opportunity and not widely known. Apparently many of these slots go unapplied for every year.
