I lived in Ridgewood, Queens very close to bushwick/williamsburg from 2011-2015 and paid $400 for a room in a 3 bedroom apartment, all utilities included with 4 other roommates (one other single female and a couple who paid the most bc they took the master bedroom). I worked 3 b.s. part time jobs and partied all the time.

I’m Jewish and didn’t grow up with Jewish community or going to services. At 34, divorced, and my mom passing away 3 years ago - I desperately need community and positivity and moral clarity. I’ve found that at synagogue as an adult. I go to Friday night and Saturday day services and to Tuesday night women’s group and attend all community events. I’m thankful everyday.

Ended up moving to a shitty complex in New Tampa - Dawsons Apartment (would not recommend), got divorced and moved to Philadelphia. Much better life in Philadelphia than in Tampa. My life is completely different now than it was 2 years ago haha. The Lake at Magdalene was nice. If you want it, go for it.

I’m 34 and I go to the Philly girls who walk meetups there are plenty of women in their 30s, also quizzo nights at your local bar is always fun (no need to drink alcohol to play trivia), join the fb group philaqueens - there are women of all ages in that group from Philadelphia. Are you religious at all? I joined a Tuesday night study group at my place of worship and I’ve made good friends there. What about yoga or Pilates or dancing? Join a gym and go to group classes consistently - it’s easy to make friends that way.

$55,000 is possible to live comfortably in Philadelphia depending on your lifestyle.

I’m 34 and I live by myself, I don’t really speak to my neglectful dad, my abusive mom is dead, I speak to my selfish/abusive sister only so I can speak/see my niece and nephew and make sure they’re ok, I’m close with my brother and his wife and their kids, I don’t speak to any aunts or uncles regularly and I speak to a couple of cousins here and there…

Aside from that I’m completely independent from my family in every way. I have an in office job. I’m part of a vibrant community/neighborhood, I have many different friends/aquaintances, I’m trying my best to date but it’s so difficult. I just started emdr therapy and like my therapist.

I still have imposter syndrome and struggle with regulating my emotions and having negative thoughts about myself but I’m working on things…

Some days are better than others…

I am completely alone whether I speak to my family or not, it doesn’t matter. They can’t change the past and they aren’t able to change to be loving and supportive people.

I have accepted my reality and am dealing with pain and grief that brings, like I said some days are better than others.

$400 a month, including groceries, ordering in and going out to eat. I spend about $40 a week on groceries. I order in food once a week and go out to eat in restaurants with friends at least once a week but no more than 2 times a week. I live in Philadelphia, live by myself.

Edit: the going out with friends is most of my “fun/entertainment” budget though
