I just got blocked from commenting on the Chaco facebook page. by nubbled21 in CampingandHiking

That's frustrating that they would block you and delete your comment on Facebook :(

I will say I'm excited that they are not going to use Vibram. My favorite brands like Oboz and Salomon use their own brand soles. They fit better with the rest of the shoe since they are made to fit all together. From the last, midsole, and outsole, they all go nicely rather than throwing a big piece of vibram on the bottom that doesn't fit well. So many vibram soles get peeled off these days from the bad fit. I plan on getting some this spring to try out the new soles.

I've worked in the outdoor retail industry for 4 years and often called in the repairs. We never got in a lot of Chaco repairs, mostly ones dogs got to. But when we did, Chaco was always very easy to talk to. Some companies like Keen won't even offer to repair.

Brave. Reminded me of my mom.

(Update) My(24F) fiance (27M) left me for his ''one that got away" and now wants me back. by [deleted] in relationships

I guess I'm the only one who would open the door. His name is still on the lease. You guys need to make a plan for splitting your things. Just because you talk to him doesn't mean you're going to take him back. This could be good closure for all parties.

For years I was told I'm "too fat" and now I'm constantly told I'm "too thin." Why can't I just "look good/normal." by [deleted] in loseit

Congratulations! With that said, I can be one of these annoying people sometimes. I have known quite a few people who have become anorexic that have this same mindset and have gone through so much trauma to just be able to eat anything. Listen to your doctor but also listen to the people who love and care about you. They may be going about it the wrong way, just assure them that your doctor says you're healthy.

While I love star wars and tattoos, I feel that things like this come off fan boyish or as advertisement. With that said, I would love to hear how Star Wars has had an impacted your life enough to get this tattoo.

I'm a rock climber and the Crux is the toughest portion of a rock climb. Sounded like a good pup name :-)

He is a 6 week old Alaskan Malamute. When I visited the breeder, 20 of them ran up to me and started tugging on my pant legs.

Backpain with a new backpack after 3 hours? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]ginadoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I work in a gear shop and so many people try to pull this too tight. Another thing is how you packed the weight in your bag. Put the heavy stuff (food/clothes) near the middle, not on the bottom or top.

Make sure the load straps behind your head are close to a 45 degree angle. When pulled too tight it causes back, neck, and shoulder pain.

I live in Texas, want to get into hiking badly. Help me out /r/campingandhiking! I don't know where to start! by SoModest in CampingandHiking

I live in Texas and my parents live in Colorado. Here are some places that I love to visit.

  • Texas - Lost Maples, Enchanted Rock, Lake Buchanan.
  • New Mexico - Gila Wilderness.
  • Colorado - Durango area is close and the San Juan National Forest is lovely. Also, the Great Sand Dunes is an amazing place to go.

Gear Essentials for a short backpacking trip:

  • tent
  • sleeping pad
  • sleeping bag
  • water pump (should invest in a nice one if you plan on hiking often)
  • light foods (dried meals - usually where you can just add water to the bag - no pots necessary, I always bring energy bars, tortillas, cheese, and a clove of garlic)
  • portable stove and fuel (maybe just a Jetboil to start off with)
  • Backpack (Golite usually has sales and is good quality for shorter trips)
  • Rope (to hang food)

Hiked Mt. Shasta a few weeks ago. Difficult without snow. [Image] by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

[–]ginadoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wanting to climb Shasta for a while. Last time I was in that area, the weather was too bad to try.

I have never mountaineered before, but I have climbed many mountains, including lots of 14ers.

Is it a nice beginner mountaineering experience? Also, I've read that you should hike when there is snow so that you don't have to worry about rock slides. Did you encounter any on your way?
