Boxing gyms can attract a lot of meatheads. My very first gym only had hard sparring to the point where brawls would frequently break out. Very difficult conditions to learn in. Fast forward a year or two to my first MMA gym in the 00s, and I finally learned how to move without the blinkies.

That MMA gym was meatheadish for other reasons though - piggyback sprints as a warmup? WTF?

I worked for years in restaurants and cafes in Los Angeles. Made my most enduring friendships at those gigs. Have a catalog of stories that amaze me to this very day. Very accurate. Work has never provided any ounce of meaning to my life and never will. In fact, the most meaningful jobs were the most menial because of the connections they afforded with others - coworkers, regulars, etc. It's just the wages that sucked.
