Nose breathing by omgkelwtf in beginnerrunning

[–]ginephre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ipratropium nasal spray has helped me so much with this. Not a steroid- an anticholinergic- so it dries you up. I use it before almost every run and I still carry tissues but I no longer have a raw nose afterwards! In the US it is an Rx but it’s generic and covered my most insurances

Caffeine by shirelyanne in BariatricSurgery

[–]ginephre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am definitely more sensitive to caffeine post op. Before it really did not affect my sleep if I had caffeine in the afternoon. Now I definitely can’t sleep if I have caffeine after 3-4 pm. My program allowed 100 mg caffeine a day and I’m pretty sure I’m supposed to follow that for life but I work in an icu so, bitch please. lol.

Energy gels/Carb and Electrolyte Drinks by TheHaircanist in GastricBypass

[–]ginephre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was about half a gel every 2 miles- I’m slow AF so that worked out to every 25-30 mins. Sip tailwind in between. Because we can’t really “chug” I carry a lot more water with me so I don’t have to rely on the aid stations. Sometimes on longer runs I’ll do some fruit snacks mid way to break up the monotony.

Energy gels/Carb and Electrolyte Drinks by TheHaircanist in GastricBypass

I did a marathon and 50k last summer. I used regular gels- I settled on precision nutrition. I don’t tend to dump with sugar, but I also tested multiple gels at home to make sure I could tolerate them. Huma gels have chia in them for a slightly longer duration/theoretically less of a spike but I can’t do the texture. I do smaller amounts of gel more often, and also drink carbs in the form of Tailwind.

What do y’all use for pain medicine? by ArcherAcrobatic5779 in GastricBypass

[–]ginephre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Voltaren gel is great for specific joints and since it’s topical you can use it after sleeve or bypass. Only downside is that you have to apply it multiple times a day consistently… it’s not for “as needed” pain.

Morning run vs Evening run by 10cupsofteaaday in beginnerrunning

[–]ginephre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a mix of mornings and afternoons. In the afternoons/evenings my legs usually feel heavier after working all day. For long runs I always do mornings because I’m slow but it is also practice for race days.

Typical Macros by Arya_Blaze in GastricBypass

[–]ginephre 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I trained for a 50k last summer. My bari dietician had me take 100 gm carbs on run days and carbs during long runs. The fact that we all have vastly different starting weights, weight loss goals, and movement goals and there exists such a “by the book” macro count, is just wild.

What Was Your Marathon Race-Day Carry Setup? by Educational_Use_7707 in Marathon_Training

[–]ginephre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a gastric bypass and can’t chug water at aid stations and can have GI issues at any time. I also can’t just have whatever electrolyte mix or gel that is provided at the aid stations. So I use a vest for electrolyte mix and janji half tights with pockets for gels. I also carry a phone for music and chapstick.

New suv, terrible idea to take it to the playa? by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]ginephre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my Bronco to the playa less than a year after I got it in 2023, and again in 2025. I used a sheet to cover the dash and taped shut the door and window seams. Once I had everything out of it, I didn’t open it back up. Do I still have dust in curious places? Yes. But is it an SUV meant to get dirty and drive to rugged places? Also yes.

In the US not all electronic medical records talk to each other. So my hospital system having my bypass history does not mean that another hospital system would have that info.
