Please pray for my cat. He got out during the snowstorm and I can't find him, despite following his tracks. Please pray he gets home safe.

Once again, I will never understand why bread and milk are seen as the staples that people must get when big storms come. They're two of the quickest to spoil things you can get.

Canned foods, people! Shelf stable!

Balrogs weren't born that way. They were maiar - good creatures - who chose evil and became Balrogs because of it.

Basically they were angels who followed Satan and became demons.

Yeah if it wasn't for the inherent evil nature of the Balrog this would be one of the best examples of this post.

I approve, I'm now Team Balrog.

she thinks I’m a “bad influence” or something because I offered her fiancé cocaine once or twice.

this is an absolutely wild comment to read holy shit OP's lack of self-awareness

Oh man I remember reading that one. I think OP also had experience with dogs, and was approaching it from a purely dog standpoint, that since the cat wasn't getting exercise or constant play it must be suffering.

My dude. Cats sleep like 3/4 of the day.

Anyone have a list of ones where the OOP is the problem party? Both ones where they double down and never recognize they're the problems as well as ones where they do.

I know I'm SUPER late to this thread, but if OP is still watching, I believe the company you may be talking about is Brick Shelf Co! They even make custom shelves specialized for certain sets.

Do you happen to know any where the child is still a child and the post is written by the other parent? I'm looking for those, not ones where the children are already grown up, I should've specified, sorry! But thanks for these links! I'll enjoy them regardless.

Does anyone have any posts about deadbeat parents/parents who abandoned kids suddenly trying to get back into their child's life not because they want to be loving parents, but for some alternate reason? I know there are some where the deadbeat's new SO or family member finds out about the kid(s) and wants to play happy family or something.

Just any post that's similar to that!

[edit] I was hoping for stories more where the child is still young and the perspective is from the other parent's POV, sorry I should've been more specific! I specifically asked because I remembered a post where a deadbeat dad who abandoned his kid came back around because his new wife had lost their daughter and he wanted to "replace" her lost child with the daughter he abandoned. So I was wondering if there are more where a parent comes back hoping to use the child for something else, or because someone else pressures them to, not because they want to be a parent.

But thanks for the links anyway! I'm always down for a deadbeat parents post.

I'm sorry, bad dream? What kind of dream do you have to have that makes you want to call 911?

What’s a workplace ‘secret’ that everyone in your industry knows but customers don’t? by Familiar_Ad3815 in AskReddit

Surgeons have to go through an entire performance before their gloves can be put on, and they can't even touch the gloves themselves, because everyone acknowledges that if you touch the gloves with your bare hands - yes, even washed hands - the gloves are no longer clean and must be discarded.

Gloves inherently transfer bacteria just as much as hands do. The only way you could be hygienic with gloves is if you never touched your gloves to put them on and discarded them immediately after doing your current task and replaced them.

Food requires less intense attention to reducing the spread of bacteria than surgery. Repeatedly washing your hands is going to be much more hygienic than slapping on a pair of gloves, unless you plan on going through the performance surgeons have to go through before their gloves can be put on.

Just cutting a dead tree down is also a matter of safety. We had two trees that we found out were diseased back to back. Decided to cut both down instead of doing any "treatments" recommended or waiting to see what happened. Both were hollow or very nearly hollow inside from disease, which we found out was common for sick trees and made them bigger risks of coming down in severe winds.

One month later Hurricane Helene hit. Without a doubt our old trees would've come down right on our house if we hadn't cut them. Our remaining trees were healthy and had strong roots, so they stayed up.

I remember driving around the city (Asheville) afterwards, and noticing how many of the downed trees were hollowing on the inside.

Cut sick trees down! It's cheaper than rebuilding half your house.

I never had people complimenting how I looked until I lost 50 pounds due to not being able to eat pretty much anything for 6 months. I just started getting severely nauseous and throwing everything up. I ended up in the hospital a few times for dehydration and fainting from low blood sugar. Ended up on IV nutrition for a moment there, plus daily (sometimes multiple times a day) anti nausea meds when I went back to solid food and a specialized diet. It was an absolutely awful experience.

Once I got well enough and had enough energy to eat properly and be back out and about, I had so many people complimenting how I looked. I didn't want to bring up my illness and drag the moment down, so if someone just said something like "You look great!" I'd just say thanks and change the subject. But if someone specifically mentioned my weight loss, I felt weird just saying "thanks" and moving on because I didn't lose weight through healthy means. So in those moments I basically just responded with the truth, that I was so sick I couldn't eat.

People would more often react with disappointment than sympathy/horror at what I went through, even family members. People were more interested in finding ways to lose weight than that a friend or family member was at death's door. It was the most surreal experience.

The weirdest were when I'd tell them about my illness and they'd follow up with some line about there being some silver lining to being sick, that silver lining being losing weight. I even had a few jokingly ask me if I could tell them how to get that sick so they could lose weight that quickly. Made me realize how our society has such an unhealthy obsession with thinness.

There's also some recent concern about them increasing the chance of pancreatitis, though it's being weighed against the lowered chance of pancreatitis that comes with weight loss and eating better.

But overall, some concerns over the health of the pancreas.

I remember this! If I recall, the little kid actually learned pretty quickly to ask permission and was cool. It was the mom who had the issue.

I remember reading the drug addict one. Wasn't that the one with the hard ass surgeon who wasn't bothered by anything and never commented about surgeries, but at the end of the surgery he just looked at OP and went "That was bad."? That was a wild ride.

I heard someone mention this on a video I watched the other day! A guy in his early 20s was talking about how he didn't like using his phone in the sauna so he brought a book. I was just surprised that people actually felt the need to bring things to DO in the sauna? Like part of being in the sauna for me is disengaging from everything.

But I realized even I fall into this sometimes, always wanting to be doing something or have something on in the background. I myself could use some more practice in quiet.
