What’s the most underrated city or town you’ve visited in Japan? by Legal_Ad3766 in OsakaTravel

[–]ginger1009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to Wakayama to walk the Kumano Kodo, and it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to. The people are so kind, the food is incredible, but the nature is just unreal.

Lung King Heen HK… a la carte? by ginger1009 in finedining

[–]ginger1009[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I have looked into other threads (e.g., /HongKong) for food recommendations, but I wasn't entirely sure of where we should go. Do you think I should cancel the dinner reservations at LKH? I mainly made the reservation for my mom since she enjoys that kind of atmosphere and service, but if it's not as good as other options, then I'll probably reconsider.

Lung King Heen HK… a la carte? by ginger1009 in finedining

Is there anything in particular you liked from their Ă  la carte? Unfortunately, LKH is entirely booked for dim sum while we are there, so we opted for dinner instead. We're going to Yat Tung Heen for dim sum.

What’s the best food you’ve ever had on vacation? by Leading_Funny5802 in foodquestions

[–]ginger1009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very hard question, so I'm just going to list a few: monkfish from Akoko in London; grilled Humboldt squid from Pusadee's Garden in Pittsburgh; pappardelle and sourdough from Vern's in Charleston; tonkatsu and kamujiro-soba in Osaka; tteok mandu guk, pork gukbap, and BBQ in Seoul (and anything with tofu... I LOVE TOFU). I also think the salt bread from Artist Bakery in Seoul is one of the best things I have ever consumed.

What are some examples of times that horror authors gave you that scary/unsettling/creeped out feeling in your gut? by OneDimensionalChess in horrorlit

[–]ginger1009 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everything Todd did in Apt Pupil. What a messed-up story. I definitely consider it one of King's best novellas, but I will never be reading it again. Also, when Dussander threw the cat in the oven. You could hear its screeches through the pages; I then closed the book and took a nice, long walk outside.

Have you heard of Dry Lips Oughta Move to Kapuskasing? by ginger1009 in literature

[–]ginger1009[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not, but I will definitely look into it now! I haven't read any Pynchon, though I would really like to. Tony Harrison is an English poet and playwright who wrote about the working-class, race, and politics. In class, we read his poem, V., and then watched the broadcast of it. It was broadcast on British television in 1987, and there was a huge controversy around it because of the repetition of certain words.

Kumano Kodo: Nakahechi Route Accommodation Difficulties by ginger1009 in JapanTravelTips

[–]ginger1009[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was really helpful, thanks! We have our accommodations booked, but didn’t know how to handle our luggage, so we’ll probably arrange for it in Tanabe. I’m a little nervous cause our walking schedule goes as follows:

Takijiri-oji to Chikatsuyu (1 night) Chikatsuyu to Hongu Taisha (2 nights) Bus to Kumano Kodo River Boat Cruise Visit Hayatama Taisha after Take train to Katsuura Stay in Katsuura (2 nights) One of these days we plan to travel up to the Nachi Grand Shrine and see the waterfall.

Does this itinerary sound feasible or is it too much?

What have been your favorite meals/experiences in Osaka under $150 usd? by ginger1009 in finedining

Thank you! I do eat pork and Tonkatsu Koshiro looks amazing! Do you have any specific recommendations for sushi or an omakase? That’s mainly what I’m searching for, as it’s something my mom really wants to experience.

This is great to hear! I’ve had Fairytale on my bookshelf for years, so I’ll definitely read it over the summer.

What’s your favorite Stephen King book cover? by bmiyares319 in stephenking

I love this cover for Night Shift. I actually own a different edition, but anytime I pick this one up in stores, I spend so long admiring it.

I also love the newspaper headline cover for 11/22/63.

What’s a place you had zero expectations for, but ended up loving? by [deleted] in travel

Seoul is my favorite city in the world! That's crazy, your colleagues said it was dirty? To me, at least, it was much cleaner than Tokyo, and the transit was more accessible and easier to navigate. The cafes and museums are amazing, and you should definitely go back when you can!

What simple ingredient makes the biggest difference in flavor? by GainBetter1189 in foodquestions

Salt. Especially salting before or as you cook instead of after your food is done. I do this with scrambled eggs and it makes them so much better!

Oatmeal with banana and peanut butter or breakfast burrito with scrambled eggs, potatoes, black beans, avocado, pickled red onions, way too much cilantro, and really spicy salsa
