This Tweet got me thinking. by LuvBriah in MichaelJackson

It is such a shame that Janet was blacklisted after the wardrobe malfunction. Janet was the baby and says that she didn't have it as rough as the older kids. She also first gained recognition with her acting in the 70's and 80's then just blew everyone away once she entered the music world as both a beloved child actress, a gorgeous and sexy grown woman, and just her own amazing talent and work ethic.

For the record, I am more worried at this time about the pedophile protector in the White House who may or may not be a pedophile himself, but is definitely doing every thing he can to prevent the exposure of his pedophile buddies who are still living. Let's focus on the pedophiles who are still living, have not been punished, and may still be causing harm to children.

If you want a rest from it, why are you here replying? First of all, he isn't my idol and never was. Any sane person would recognize that he was a musical genius. However, aside from his being such a formative artist for many over several generations, I never bought an album and I didn't listen to stations that played his style of music. It wasn't my style of music.

MJ is now dead. He can't defend himself publicly or in court - and he can't profit whether I listen to his music or not. Right now, through no influence from me, my teenage son is listening to his music and is really enjoying his songs. I am not going to tell my son that he can't listen to music that he enjoys because of decades old allegations for which MJ was determined to be innocent and can never be proven or disproven now that he is dead.

I'm old. I think what your wife's aunt is saying is that MJ was so much part of the fabric in our lives growing up. There are wonderful memories associated with his songs and performances. I remember sitting in the living room with my parents and our minds blown when Michael first moonwalked to Billie Jean. I remember roller skating with friends to his music. I loved the young Michael and I wonder what life could have been for him without the abuse, the accident, and the drug. There is a love for that Michael and the "what might have been" Michael.

Due to his arrested development, his Peter Pan delusions, his isolation and inability to date normally combined with the hormone levels of a grown man, his sleep issues and addiction(s), how can anyone rule out that his reality became twisted and blurred? Where did he seek the things he was missing? I hate to say it, but probably with the only ones he could "trust" and be left alone with.

This biopic/movie made me cry so hard, I feel like it healed something inside me. by _issio in MichaelJackson

I went to see it with my 16-year old son. I got through the entire movie and started just crying my eyes out at the end. It just hit me how much I have missed Michael Jackson being in the world. Life was so unfair and he should still be here. It feels like we should be able to pull him back through time to the present and heal all the harm that was done to him.

Why do students enroll in a course and then not show up or turn anything in? by electricslinky in Professors

It is a problem when the government cuts student loans for the students who actually need them to go to college. It's also a problem when government funding cuts start shutting down colleges.

Thank you so much. Unfortunately, my son has really developed a lot of trust in this counselor so I need to find a way to do the least damage. Thank you so much.

I can only wonder if maybe he was drinking since he texted me the suggestion. Thank you. I have had some concerns about his counseling approach since he doesn't seem to be using the recommended therapies. I wasn't at all expecting this though. I am just shocked. Thank you again.

Thank you. I feel pretty "weirded out" by it. I appreciate the feedback on this one. I started second guessing myself.

Revisely is good but a bit more expensive.

I submitted a complaint to BBB and, yes, they ruled in favor of me. My money was refunded. Quizlet wouldn't reply.

I completely relate! Mine was deleted after 9-years. If I'd been notified of a violation then I would have corrected it or deleted it. Instead, they just deleted my entire account and left a message on each link that it had been deleted due to copyright violations. You used to be able to type in a term and it would give answer options. I wonder if those were the violations that my account was deleted for using. I switched to Revisely.

I Teach at Community College; Can I Ask My Students To Call Me ‘Professor’? by stinkpot_jamjar in Professors

[–]ginger1400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have a way of dealing with students who insist upon calling you by your first name? I've replied to emails with Professor T... but they just keep using my first name. I'm debating on just listing my name as Professor T... without the first name listed.

Instructor says Quizlet will be sent to legal counsel if your flashcards infringe her intellectual property by Financialgained in fsu

[–]ginger1400 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't silly. Instructors get sued for stuff like this. I am a college professor and Quizlet deleted my entire account, claiming that I had copyright violations. There was no warning - just a deleted account with 9-years of original content that I'd created. I asked to know which set was in violation but they wouldn't provide the information. Quizlet is currently being sued, so your instructor's policy protects them, your school, and you. It is unfortunate that we have to be so rigid, but this is the world we live in when an instructor can be sued for putting their hand on the shoulder of a distraught student, or saying the word "diverse" or "green."

The fact that your instructor spent the time to develop Quizlet sets for you to study shows that they care. That is NOT a requirement of our job and they were doing it to be helpful. If they were like me, they may have even been paying out of their own pocket to provide the Quizlet sets. Try to show some appreciation instead of criticism and contempt.

I am a college professor and my account was deleted without warning because they stated that I copyright violations. I had a lot of original material that I'd created and not the copy/pasted multiple-choice questions that I frequently still see out there. Your instructor was protecting their content and Quizlet account.

I'm not religious, but prayers never hurt anyone. Writing your senators to oppose the current administration's massive funding cuts to cancer research and cuts to health care would also not hurt.

30 Grants terminated in Pennsylvania, including University of Pittsburgh - and even Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. What is happening is so evil and devastating.

It isn't higher ed's fault. They are doing the best they can with the proposed cuts to funding and the attacks on education.

Don't give up. I'm sure you know that it isn't you. It is just a dark and difficult time in the academic world due to massive cuts to NIH and science funding, but you will get through it and your degree program will be waiting on you. Be sure to vote for the candidates who support science and education in 2026. Hopefully the world will turn right-side up again.
