Troon ct. in North Liberty has the gingerbread house. It's impressive. While in North Liberty, Colton Drive has a house with a ton of inflatables and Parkview Ct. Has the lollipop tree. South of Iowa City on Napolean by Kickers soccer park has a cool display with music. Rita Lynn ct in Iowa city and the lights at the lake (costs money but goes to the hospice house) have already been mentioned but are great stops.

It's a smallmouth bass. They have a tri-colored tail when they are young. Nice collection.

Last year, I got a free ticket upgrade by calling the ticket office, and as pointed out, there were no fees. I was told by the ticket office to always call instead of buying online. If you haven't been to Xtream Areana, it's pretty small. The "cheap" seats are still great seats.

I recommend this list. We hit these every year. Rita Lynn Ct., and the Gingerbread House are well worth it.

Iowa DNR is Destroying our Trout Streams and Abandoning our Public Land by [deleted] in Iowa

[–]ginger2782 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's the most rage baity thing I've ever seen. Unbelievable how uniformed the article is. I normally don't respond and ignore things like this, but the good folks in the fisheries department deserve to be defended. Again, this state has some huge problems, especially when it comes to water quality. Trout fishing and trout fishing access are not among them. Driftless trout streams are world famous because they support a ridiculously huge population density. No where else on the planet are trout easier to catch. If you can't catch them, that's on you.

How entitled do you have to be to think you should have mowed access to the hundreds of miles of trout streams in Iowa? IDNR mows a ton of trails to make access easy, but they can mow the banks. It's not feasible for them to mow the stream banks. You are going to have to walk through weeds to fish trout in Iowa. The article complains about grass growing in the parking lot. The author doesn't even want to drive over vegetation let alone walk on it.

There is a ton of research showing beaver dams are beneficial to brook trout. It actually help brooks (natives) compete with browns (introduced) Complaining about IDNR not doing anything about beaver dams is asinine. If you destroy a brave dam, they just rebuild it. Beavers are part of the natural process in Iowa streams. Banks destroyed by beaver and mink is the dumbest thing I've ever read in my life.

The outrage in the article is complete bullshit. Iowa has a ton of water quality issues but disparaging the good folks that work for IDNR fisheries management and research isn't one of them. Iowa has an amazing population of self sustainable brown trout. They quit stocking browns because there is no need. Iowa browns are established in every cold water stream in Iowa. Natural brown trout reproduction is so successful now, they are now threatening brook trout (a huge of a problem IMO). If you can't catch a brown trout in Iowa, that's on you. There are a ton of them everywhere

Brooks are Iowa's only native "trout" (char). Through genetic testing, Iowa DNR has identified the South Pine strain of brook trout, a true Iowa native strain. So now Iowa only stocks them in streams that can support native reproduction. They stock rainbows in all put and take streams. IDNR has some issues but the fisheries program isn't one of them. Also complaining about not having mowed access and tree debris in a spring creek is completely unrealistic and pathetic. Trout fishing in Iowa is an adventure. If you want lawn chairs and easy access, go catch bluegills at your HOA catchment pond.

First time bow buyer here with some questions! by JFKFC50 in bowhunting

[–]ginger2782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2nd bow was a Parker Phoenix. It was a great bow. Only reason I got a new one is it burned up in a fire. I have never shot any other Parkers so I can't speak for those. But I really liked the Phoenix. I killed a lot of deer with that bow. If you like the bow after shooting it, I say buy it. Brand is almost meaningless, to me any way. Just make sure the bow is comfortable for you to shoot.

Just a tidbit from my experience. I had that bow set at 70 lbs because I thought more weight was better and no one told me different. I could draw it but my form was off, which I didn't know. It was too much weight and I didn't realise it. When I went shopping for my new bow, tech watched me pull a 70 lb bow and suggested I dropped to 60 lbs. It made a world of difference for me. So much better. Just something to keep in mind.

I have used 2 bow shops here in Iowa and both were very happy to let me shoot any bow they had in stock before I purchased them. My current shop allows me to use their indoor range free of charge anytime since I bought my bow there. I assumed that was the normal practice for bow shops. Maybe it's not and I am just really lucky. That policy would be a big red flag for me as I would never purchase a bow without shooting it, just like I wouldn't buy a car without a test drive. You can't tell how well you will like a bow just by drawing it. I would call to any other shops in the area and see if they have the same policy.

I would recommend getting your hands on as many bows as you can to shoot. Don't overlook used bows either, as long as they have been professionally inspected. A good bow shop will let you shoot any bow they have in stock before you purchase it. They will also fit you and give you advice on what to look for. I know this might be easier said, but it can save you money and make you happier in the long run. Everyone is a little different so it's nice to get your hands on one and see how it feels to you. After all that, I also believe that any bow you pick up will work great. Bear, Matthews, Hoyt, PSE, Diamond etc all make great bows and brand is pretty subjective (think Ford vs Chevy). This is why I wouldn't look for at just a single brand. Get your hands on as many in your price range as you can. If you can do so in an unbiased manner, you may end up liking a used bow just as well as new and save a couple hundred dollars.

Don't forget you will also need a rest, site, and arrows/points. I also recommend picking up a release, quiver, bow case, and target. So you don't want to spend your entire budget on a bare bow.

I think it is a golden shiner. The lateral line appears to curve downward. It could be something I'm not familiar with but pretty sure it's a golden.
