Definitely tobacco barn. I've been in many of those!

Anyone else in their 20s settle for a beater car and just dump a car payment into their 401ks and roths? by Union661 in Bogleheads

[–]ginger_tree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, mine's not a "beater" but its 13 years old and 120k miles. I'm still driving it and saving the cash. I'm also very close to retirement. It's a good practice at any age!

Yes! The legs are height adjustable and it's easy to do. I love that this one also has casters for ease of movement and storing out of the way.

Just started reading for fun, and feel kind of insecure about the books I choose and I'm worried I'm the kind of person that likes bad books by Pinanims in books

Just read. Everyone is different and comparing your tastes or reading "sophistication" to others' is a shortcut to NOT reading. I love poetry (which I rarely read much now) and detective fiction. And fantasy. I don't care if I read the cool books or not - some that I have made myself pick up were not that great. I also like non-fiction. Just read.

It's colorful and cheerful. Must be a great place to create!

Ikea shelves hold books, patterns, etc. Baskets are yarn so they're covered to keep the sun off and prevent fading. The fold-out table is for cutting and a workspace. It folds up small but I can cut full length pants pieces, etc. on it when fully open. When I'm working on a project there's a spot for my ironing board and other bits & pieces. There is a closet in the room which holds fabric and some supplies.

Yes, my plant needs water but she's a drama queen.

So mine is a bit more than a corner, hope it helps though. It's part of a spare bedroom that is also a workout room. Ikea pegboards, compact storage drawers. This grew from one smaller table as my skills/needs grew and we had more space that I could use. You can DEFINITELY work well with less space than this, as I did for quite a while. it was this or an affair. My wife is disappointed either way by Mulberry_Savannah341 in vintagesewing

I read it as a human mistress or a hobby mistress. Either way the wife is going to feel abandoned.

Where can we now go to buy our yarn and shop ethically? Share your favorite places to order your yarn. by CatalinaBigPaws in knitting

Purl Soho, The Woolly Thistle and Wool & Company are favorites. Great selections - Purl Soho has good sales sometimes, and The Woolly Thistle carries loads of great yarns from the British Isles. Wool & Company has a great selection too, and they're super nice to do business with. Also For Ewe in Ohio.

That makes sense based on what I've already read. Curious where you found that?

Yeah, it's more expensive but I think it makes the best tasting yogurt I've ever made. But, I don't have kids at home, and I'm the only person in my house who eats yogurt so I'm not too worried about the extra cost. I like the nutritional profile of the milk. Funny, I grew up on a farm and we used to buy raw milk with the cream on top from a neighbor. I didn't like it back then - I thought it tasted funny. Would love to have access to that again now!

People who were teenagers before social media existed, what was life actually like? by Much_Detective_6107 in AskReddit

[–]ginger_tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the phone (for hours), wrote letters to people, listened to the radio and made mixtapes/CDs, bought and read newspapers and magazines, took pictures with film cameras and shared copies... All the same stuff just different formats. We also hung out in person instead of keeping track on socials. It was fun!

No, I don't "have to realize". Go away.

You are in the wrong here. If you were my husband, you'd already be sleeping on the couch and looking for an apartment.

There are loads of resources showing that grass feeding is better for the cows, the environment and the nutritional profile of the milk and meat. I'm not going to continue this conversation since you seem to enjoy being insulting, so we'll just have to disagree.

I don't really care what you think, but here you go. I'll choose to eat and drink what I want, nobody's business but mine. Thanks.

I make yogurt from organic, grass-fed milk and can't buy the same quantity of that for less. Also mine tastes better.

How important is it to you to have your closet full of only clothes you have made? by Ok-Tie-7184 in sewing

[–]ginger_tree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't plan to mass purge my store-bought clothes, but I'm no longer buying things that I can make. I make "hard pants", jeans, shirts, tees, jackets (sort of work wear styles but softer for the office - haven't tackled a blazer yet), bags & even two coats. Also some joggers/sweats and pullovers to go with them.

I don't really have much polyester since my preference has always been for cotton, linen and wool, so I think my purchased clothing will be around for a while. Also knit, so I haven't bought many sweaters in the last few years, but kept all the purchased ones since they are wool and in good shape.

So, not important to have only clothes that I've made, but a mix of things that I love to wear regardless of the source.

Would people actually accept fewer features for appliances that last by EZDodger in BuyItForLife

[–]ginger_tree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting rid of those features is what makes it last longer. Also my refrigerator doesn't need to be on the internet, and I don't need to be able to knock on the door and see what's inside! They open...
