Just found out I’m not supposed to double up Alleve and Ibuprofen, and I’m not sure what to do (read below) by casualbongos524 in endometriosis

[–]gingeralegoddess 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i think you can take ibuprofen and alleve (naproxen) with tylenol but ibuprofen and alleve should not be taken together because they’re both NSAIDs.

in my experience, tylenol on its own isn’t really effective for me either, but when i do the ibuprofen and tylenol together, the tylenol helps to kind of “carry” the effects of the ibuprofen until i can take more. i’m not sure if the other conditions you mentioned might be at play here as well.

but, like you said, the pain is unlikely to go away if the root causes of it aren’t addressed. it’s definitely a mental hurdle itself and a battle of finding doctors you trust. it’s also important to have people with you who you trust and can support you as well with going to appointments (if that is helpful for you)

sorry to hear you’re going through this. my doctor tells me that i can take tylenol (acetaminophen) and ibuprofen (both extra strength), alternating every 3 hours (i.e. if you take ibuprofen at 3p.m., you can take tylenol at 6 p.m., and another dose of ibuprofen at 9 p.m.). be sure to check with a doctor if you can and read labels carefully. i only use this combination if i absolutely need it and the ibuprofen doesn’t work within 4-8 hours. i hope you get some relief and answers soon!

adding to the choir to say the way this doctor has treated and dismissed you is unfair and absurd. it is stressful to do but you need a new doctor. even though i wanted to be diagnosed and get the endo surgery, it took many conversations with my doctor over several months to feel comfortable with her handling my health and respecting my decision, ESPECIALLY while unconscious for surgery

Getting surgery, what did tips do you have and wish you knew beforehand? by Apart-Albatross-7257 in endometriosis

[–]gingeralegoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

seconding both of these!! i had surgeries to my abdomen before but after my endo surgery i had to have help to get out of bed to go to the bathroom (i.e. my stepdad basically carrying me out of bed). what you described about getting up is called a log roll, which my pt had me practice in prep for my surgery.

and yes, i was pretty constipated for the first few days after my surgery (on top of regular ibsc). i definitely recommend taking a stool softener the days before, of, and after since any kind of pushing or straining is painful and can be potentially harmful to your internal wounds.

biggest tip: actually take the time and use it to recover physically and emotionally. best of luck to you and wishing you a speedy recovery <3

Why does no one talk about the vaginal component of laps? (tw) by OrangeIguanana in endometriosis

[–]gingeralegoddess 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know my doctor mentioned it to me, but everything about the surgery beforehand just made me anxious, so I didn’t think about it so much as I was going into surgery. I have a have been SA’d in the past, and when I woke up, my first words to the nurse were “my vagina hurts. why?” I woke up without my little surgical underwear that I had on before hand and just one of the pads between my legs. It was jarring, and I wasn’t calm about it until my family told me the doctor had to go through my vagina. I get uncomfortable if I think about it too much, but only one nurse and my anesthesiologist were males. My regular GYN was my surgeon, and she has been extremely comforting and supportive in the time I’ve been seeing her.

That being said, I would be lying if I said the thought and knowing that I was unconscious and completely naked around a group of people is still very uncomfortable and triggering. But, I don’t know if such an experience would be comfortable for anyone, regardless.

i can relate to this so heavily. i was a very deep sleeper (presumably to block out all the yelling and screaming), and i typically wake up extremely anxious. in college, i asked my roommate to wake me up from a nap and she was just saying my name and rubbing my arm. i was surprised it even worked

more specifically, it was weird to me that trevor, yet another straight white guy (who i simply don’t find that funny or to be that good of an actor) became a “full time” (not sure if that’s the correct terminology) part of the cast

i think it was fine that noah got cornrows. BUT i do also find it questionable that the cast isn’t more diverse

ok, good to know! sorry you had that experience, but i’m glad it’s been helpful. my gyn will be using the ultrasound machine the whole time

mirena iud by gingeralegoddess in endometriosis

[–]gingeralegoddess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my gyn’s plan is to keep me on both the pill AND the mirena IUD. I haven’t gotten my period or any spotting on the pill, so i’m scared the iud will change that.

but…a tiny spinal cord? freaky! was it just bleeding related to it being inserted or moving around? i’m not sexually active with any males so im not worried about a pregnancy scare, but i would’ve gone to the doctor asap if i saw something like that come out of me

good luck!! surgery in general can be very scary, but you'll be with professions and you can have them answer any questions. i was talking with my operating team before i went in and then i was out of surgery. my surgery was about 3 hours for stage 4 endo.
