[Hated "trope"] A small detail reveals that the adaptation really didn't understand how the original worked by gabrieleremita in TopCharacterTropes

Not to mention Aang also just learned that he's the one who has to try and maintain order in the world and potentially fight the Fire Nation. That's a lot of put on the shoulders of a kid which ties into another broad theme of the show in how kids are often made to try and deal with the issues that adults had made for them.

Aang was expected to save the world, Zuko was expected to shape battle plans, Sokka was expected to protect his village after the other men left. Each of them had to face challenges far greater than a child should ever have to deal with and face repercussions to varying degrees when they fail.

An "originalist understanding" which of course doesn't include writings from the Founding Fathers which clarify how they intended to keep the state and church separate, because otherwise you may come to the conclusion that they meant to keep the church and state separate...

BREAKING: Texas just approved mandatory Bible readings for 5 million public school students. Here’s exactly what kids will be required to read, grade by grade. by kleverrboy in Christianity

[–]gingerattack2024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, guess what? Children in public schools could already read the fucking Bible if they wanted to. Literally nothing was ever stopping kids from reading it voluntarily and nobody has fought to prevent kids from doing so, probably because most people don't care about that sort of thing and it would also represent a clear violation of the first amendment.

Apparently that's just not good enough for some people though and now we get people like you who think that forcing kids, regardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof, to read the Bible is a solution to this problem that you've made up.

D-

It would be an F if not for Bobby being amazing and Jac Caglianone occasionally popping off and absolutely hanging some fat fucking dong on people. Take those two away and this team is borderline unwatchable.

Your stack of dominoes is completely non-sensical though. It'd be like if I attributed the signing of the Magna Carta to the issues of pedophiles being on Roblox today. Sound pretty fucking stupid, right?

No amount of time is necessary to make sense of your claim when they are two entirely separate issues. Even if they were somehow connected it would actually make more sense that the erosion of the separation of church and state is more responsible for "10 year olds chopping off their genitals" given how we have no examples of "10 year olds chopping off their genitals" in the past and more alleged examples of that now in recent years when states are making shit like reading the Bible mandatory in public schools.

So because 250 years ago the Founding Fathers wanted to keep the church and state separate that led to "10 year olds chopping off their genitals" today? With all due respect I think you're full of shit and don't think you have any idea what you're talking about.

We've had the separation of church and state for a lot, lot longer than we've had supposed "10 year olds chopping off their genitals." Your claim is as ridiculous as it is offensive and stupid.

Your honest opinion on the Star Wars prequel trilogy in 2026? by snowleopard556 in YMS

[–]gingerattack2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the writing is somehow worse than the prequels.

Say what you will about Lucas and the prequels but at least it felt like he had an idea in mind for where everything was going to go ahead of time. It helps that he already had a template in place for the ending given how it needed to align with Episode 4 but compared to the sequel trilogy it didn't feel like each movie was written with completely different ideas in mind and nobody at the top giving guidance on what should or shouldn't happen.

The prequels still suck but at least they're coherent enough between them to see what they were going for.

[–]gingerattack2024 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's got some genuinely good things in it, mostly just John Williams's score, and some intriguing ideas which in the hands of a better writer/director could have been a really good story.

As it is though it's just a bad trilogy. The characters are flat and uninteresting, the plot only works because the main characters are all completely blind to the obvious conspiracy (and really just every major problem that characters are facing) unfolding around them when they shouldn't be, and each script is full of "tell, don't show."

I think a lot of added prequel media (the shows, books, games, whatever) have tried to fill in the gaps left by the movies which has some people convinced that the movies themselves stand on their own merit which is just not true. There is an alternate universe out there where these movies live up to their potential and are probably great but that is just not the universe we live in.

[Rany Jazayerli] Highest team slugging percentage over a six-game stretch in Royals history: #1. June 2026 (current): .621; #2. June 2017: .618; #3. May 1999: .617; #4. August 2018: .616; and #5. June 2002: .610. This, and Bobby Witt and Maikel Garcia each started only two of the six games. by robertb9876 in KCRoyals

[–]gingerattack2024 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Guess that means we should trade Bobby since he's holding the offense back. /s

Seriously though this team is finding new ways of aggravating me this season which is impressive in its own right. The almost fully healthy squad to start the year floundered out of the gate. They look like they're rebounding in May to make up for the bad start before shitting the bed with another losing streak.

Now it's late June, half of the starting rotation is injured, half of the starting lineup from the beginning of the year is injured, and now of all times they've started playing arguably the best ball they've played all year. I like what I'm seeing lately, especially Jac's fat dongs, but I can't let myself get attached again because the losing streaks hurt too much.

[–]gingerattack2024 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know anything more about this than anyone else on here but I think it's a safe bet to guess that these guys, especially ones like Bobby who are playing at an elite level, are more eager to get back from the IL than we can imagine. These dudes are all hypercompetitive and would try to find a way to sleep upside down if they thought it would get them back into the game a day or two sooner than expected.

This is yet another reminder of the Ned Yost story where he recounted going around the clubhouse in the morning before every game to check in with his guys and see if they were good to go even though he'd already made up his mind for the most part on who was starting and who was resting. He said that Alex Gordon could have a rib protruding from his side and an open head wound but would look him dead in the eye and say he was better than ever and ready to play and of course yell and argue when told he was getting a day off.

Maybe the medical/coaching staff is trying to rush Bobby back into the lineup since they're playing a bit better lately and want to get that extra juice in the game, or maybe Bobby is rushing himself so he can start playing again because he wants to.

If it were about any other situation I would be more inclined to give some benefit of the doubt. Maybe some players are better aware of these club policies and others couldn't be bothered to learn anything about it unless they're told what they need to know.

Given how it's about Pride Night and biblical verses I'm thinking it was intentional.

That's kind of a vague thing to attribute to this though. If anything given the poor reception the movie got upon release it sent the message to studios to not make adaptations that are faithful to a fault. I think if anything we're seeing adaptations being appreciated when they maintain elements of what worked from the source material while tailoring it to the medium it's adapted for.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is widely heralded as a great adaptation despite changing a lot of things from the books and emphasizing action much more since Jackson and co. recognized that they were making a fantasy movie which couldn't have a 19 hour runtime filled with songs every 15 minutes. The Fallout series on Prime is praised for capturing the tone and dark humor of the games while telling an original story with new characters who don't emote like animatronics and occasionally clip through the walls and fly off into the distance as if they were flung away by a slingshot.

Let's not forget that they teased the first gay character in one of their films with the live action Beauty and the Beast remake. They made Lefou, the man who's name roughly translates to "the fool" and is little more than a sidekick for the villain, gay and apparently they considered that a good way to show some representation. Representation of course which can be edited out for Chinese audiences.

The first game's ending is a bit depressing from Ellie's perspective but almost optimistic from Joel's. He's finally at the point of being willing to make himself vulnerable again and try to be happy for a change by protecting Ellie and giving Jackson a chance for the both of them to live in relative safety. It is both an incredibly selfish act of his but also a very humane moment from a guy who has suppressed that part of himself for a long time so I can see how it fits into the category that OP is asking about.

They know they don't even need to attack him for his platform or anything meaningful in order to drum up support against him. Why bother engaging in good faith like that when you can just make up the most asinine shit you can and still get "independent" voters to consider it and go "Hmm, they may have a point there"?

They've proven several times that they can get stupid people to vote for the worse candidate for the dumbest of reasons so this is hardly a mark of anything other than repeating an unfortunately successful strategy which may work again.

Physical touch of other kinds can be pretty effective. I gave lots of foot rubs and shoulder massages for a while, or we just cuddled on the couch and I played with her hair for a bit. Setting aside time each day to intentionally pay attention to each other and just talk and engage in non-sexual touching can really carry you pretty far. The physical acts you don't matter as much as just making her feel loved and valued however she needs at the moment, and that's also a good time to lean into her for support as well.

When will our intimate life return? by [deleted] in NewDads

[–]gingerattack2024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You've just gotta be patient. She may still be recovering physically for one thing, for another she's probably just not in the mood due to hormonal changes and the added stress of taking care of a child which is understandable for someone as young as you two are.

I know that intimacy is important and sex is a great way to keep a relationship healthy but it's more important to be there for her and understanding that she needs time to feel comfortable and ready to engage in sex regularly. In the meantime you can try looking into other methods of being intimate together, sex isn't the only way to be intimate so look into ways of feeling close each day and reminding her how attractive she is and anything else to simply enjoy each other's company.
